This was the worst rental experience I have had with U-Haul. My email and text confirmations directed me to a corporate store location. When I arrived, I was sent instead to a satellite location. I was also informed that I was receiving a “free upgrade” to a 15-foot truck due to availability, which was acceptable. That location did have the vehicle, but it was initially unavailable due to an active repair ticket. After some investigation, the agent provided the keys and told me the repair had been cleared and that the vehicle was safe and operational. The truck was covered in ice and snow, had no working heat, and the cargo area was frozen shut. Given the below-zero temperatures that weekend, this was extremely concerning. I contacted the corporate office and was told my only option was to return the truck for a refund. There were no other trucks or vans available, and I was told there was nothing else that could be done. After being placed on hold, I was informed that the repair department had deemed the vehicle safe and operational. Because there were no alternative vehicles and the rental was necessary, I had no choice but to use the truck despite the conditions. This experience was unsafe, unacceptable, and not reflective of the service standards I expect from U-Haul.

The person working was kind enough to stay a few minutes late to get us our equipment. When we picked up the truck and dolly they were already hooked up. I assumed the guy had checked the lights on the dolly so I did not check them at pick up. When we loaded the car 2 days later and checked the lights the right side light was inoperable, no marker or turn/stop. This became a huge issue. We could not just simply switch it out for another one on our way to California. It cost me another $180-ish to return that dolly and rent a working dolly. The truck itself must’ve had a windshield replaced recently because there was glass shards on the dash.

JAMES RI reserved a 26' truck, furniture cart, and a two-wheel dolly two weeks prior to my move. When I got there the dolly was not available even though I reserved it two weeks prior. This was very disappointing because the dolly was an important part of my move. The office said we could check with another local U-Haul dealer. My wife went to U-Haul Moving & Storage of St Cloud and was treated very rudely on 2/22/25. Needless to say we did not attain a dolly.
