I rented a u-haul truck from Stony Hill Hardware that didn’t work. I asked a truck driver for help and he told me there was a serious problem with the front end that was causing the steering wheel to feel very loose and wobbly and also a problem with the transmission. Also, the truck had trash and other people’s belonging’s in it and when I told the owner of Stony Hill he said that it isn’t his problem or responsibility and that I would need to call U-haul’s 800# to prevent the truck from being rented to another person. He also said that U-Haul doesn’t require them to check trucks in between rentals so finding other people’s belongings and trash in the truck is common and also not his responsibility since that is a u-haul policy. I picked up the truck from a person at Stony Hill hardware (they gave me the keys) and assumed that they would provide clean trucks that are working but they do not. The owner of Stony Hill Hardware said I need to rent a truck directly from a u-haul store if you want to be sure the truck you rent works and doesn’t have other people’s belongings and trash in it. I hope that in the future Stony Hill Hardware will consider letting people know that before the rent u-haul trucks from them. It is especially frustrating that the only way to prevent Stony Hill Hardware from renting the same broken truck to other people is for me to call u-haul’s 800# and inform them of the problem myself.
JODIE MI have used this drop off multiple times and every time has been great.
Neil WThe first try to rent failed, because according to uHaul, my bank declined the downpayment by VISA. However, my bank had no knowledge that any request for payment from uHaul appeared in their logs. So I called uHaul corporate, but all I could reach was a generic recorded message "we are open for calls at 6am Arizona time zone. I am on the each coast, so the difference is 3 hours, yet from 9am to noon Eastern time, all I got was a recording to "leave a message". After five calls all morning, I never got a live representative and nobody returned my call (messages were always polite and brief). I double checked and made sure three payment methods were up to date, and funds or credit line were available. Everything was 100% in good order, correct, as many prior rentals were transacted this year with no problems whatsoever. Had any representative returned my call promptly, I would have known exactly what the problem was: My *corporate* payment method needed to be updated. There is only one option and zero alternative methods, and the option to update corporate payment is buried in the menu AND you have to explicitly make sure you are logged into uhaul.com/corporate to get that done. Simply updating the THREE available payment methods in uhaul.com (NOT CORPORATE) WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED by uhaul.com/corporate. I had to do my own sleuthing to figure this out. And when I finally connected with a live representative, first try simply shunted me to a voicemail, then I had call back and insist on escalating my query to a LIVE supervisor to confirm that payment was in good order. I had to cancel and reschedule the rental for the following day, having wasted countless hours to find out what went wrong WHILE WAITING FOR A CALL BACK WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. Solution to this issue: uHaul need to rewrite their software from the ground up, remove the schism between retail and corporate, and integrate payments by merging retail with corporate. Web browser and smartphone android apps DO NOT work seamlessly, and while logged into uHaul.com/corporate, sometimes the app or website exits into uHaul.com. It is not obvious to the user that there is a drop down menu which reveals the *corporate* user option, I discovered that by accident. Web response is also very slow and laggy.
David WThe owners are very personable and helpful. This is my third time renting from them.
