Most horrible experience ever. Made reservation online weeks in advance for a 10' truck reservation for 5/12 at Rebel RV in Batesville, MS. Received a call from U-Haul reservations on 5/7 that no 10' truck would be available, but would search around for another one. She promised a call back. I specifically said I needed pick-up at 8:00 am CT on Mon., 5/12. I did not receive a call back from her, but received a text for reservation # 70249394 changed to a 15’ truck. I get to Rebel RV in Batesville, MS at 8 am CT & no one there. Sign for after hours to call a local number there, but only get voice mail. I leave message. Try again several times & no return call after 1 hr. I call the phone no. on side of building & no. not in service. There is a 15' truck there & it is unlocked but no keys. I called main U-Haul customer service number & after waiting 15+ minutes finally get a live person. She said to look in truck for keys. I did that again, but no keys. She said would put me on hold & call manager there. She came back & said got voice mail & left message. I told her there were 5 lock boxes there with combination locks & that the keys were probably in there. She said my reservation wasn't set up for 24/7 service & the Rebel RV doesn't open until noon. Told her that I specifically requested 8:00 a.m. CT pick up on the online reservation plus again on 5/7 when I spoke to U-Haul person who called me. I had to call back U-Haul several times & finally got the Memphis traffic coordinator. She located a 15' truck in Coldwater, MS at Mid South Auto Mart LLC. This was 39.2 miles (about 50 minutes) each way out of my way! I had no choice & asked her to reserve the 15' truck there. My wife then drove me there after wasting 1.5 hours waiting at the Rebel RV. On the way there, I called Mid South Auto Mart & spoke to Gary, the manager there. I told him I was driving about an hour out of the way each way & wanted to confirm the 15' truck was available. He said "yes" that it was available & it would be ready when I got there. I get there around 10:15 am CT & Gary tells me the 15' truck is not available. I wasn’t happy at all at this point driving an hour further out of my way & having no truck. He was unprofessional & raised his voice. I was not happy, but no customers should be dealt with like that. He offered me a 26' truck instead. I told him I was moving my son out of a 1-bedroom apartment in Oxford, MS & didn’t need that size truck & didn’t want to drive such a big truck. He said the 15' truck had a steering problem & couldn't give it to me. It would’ve been nice to know before driving all the way there. Then U-Haul Memphis calls me, saying can get me a 15' truck back in Oxford, MS. I said not going back there now & have problem, asked if any other trucks where I am in Coldwater? The manager Gary said there was a 10' truck if that would work. I told him not sure if I would be able to fit everything, but I would give it a try & I took the 10' truck. I told him I had reserved a dolly (small hand truck). All he had was an appliance dolly which was too big & wouldn’t meet my needs. He gave me a receipt that showed a different license plate number, mileage of 47,520.0, and 5/8 full gas tank while the actual 10' truck only had a 1/4 tank of gas with Arizona license plate # AM73927 & 8,933 miles. I could not get the U-Haul mobile app to work because it kept saying the mileage couldn't be lower than what showed (could not edit it) & license plate didn't match although I uploaded a photo that clearly showed 8,933 mileage. I had to fill up the truck with gas as it was only 1/4 tank full. When I returned the truck to Antioch, TN with 9,271 miles, it had 3/4 tank full. I therefore had to spend additional money on 1/2 tank of gas. Tank was 31 gallons. Thus 15.5 gallons x $3.29 per gallon = $50.995 extra out of my pocket. Plus, my wife & I had to drive 39.2 miles out of our way (each way) with her new Acura MDX plus additional gas used for her car & the truck. Current IRS 2025 rules are 70 cents per mile for moving. Therefore, I am owed 39.2 x 2 = $54.88 for mileage on our personal car. By the time I got back to the Batesville MS area, it was > 11:15 am. 3 hours + 15 minutes past when I should have picked up the truck originally. Based on my current salary, my time = $139.51 per hour x 3.25 hours = $453.44 that I am owed by U-Haul. Total owed = $50.995 + $54.88 + $453.44 = $559.32. In addition to the aggravation, mental stress, & inconvenience caused. The 10' truck that I got was dirty in the cab & back of the truck. I had to clean & sweep it out before loading it. The suspension, shocks, & overall truck were terrible for 8,933 miles?! I am requesting that all charges to my credit card by U-Haul be credited back immediately. That credit would = $343.99.
