I originally reserved a 26' truck from U-Haul for pickup at this location. The day before I was supposed to pick up the truck, I got a call from a U-Haul informing me there were no trucks available at this location. They referred me to another U-Haul location (McKinleyville) but the only 26' truck they had had bald tires, would not start (dead battery) and extensive damage to body. I did not think it would make the 1000 mile trip safely. Since I was now already a day behind schedule I had to scramble and rented a 26' truck from Budget. When I realized I would need extra space I reserved a 6x12 UHaul trailer and told the reservation agent I would be using a competitor's truck. When I arrived at this pick-up location I was told U-Haul would not rent the trailer to me because I was driving a Budget truck. I came to learn that the problem was due to Budget's wiring hookup configuration. This was extremely frustrating because I needed the trailer rental and had no other options. The rental location manager finally agreed to rent the trailer to me. It was highly stressful.

I think the staff was a little overwhelmed. I was the 6th person in line when I came to drop off the trailer. One of the staff people pulled me out of line and had me pull my trailer farther up and checked it out and sent me on my way. Nice friendly guy.

Front desk was not staffed when I entered - no big deal, but a little "we'll be right back, please wait" sign or something to that effect would be nice. Overall, staff was friendly and helpful though.

Your employee didn't perform even a basic check on the hitch setup (which was only secured by two and roughly a half bolts due to a broken weldnut) and allowed me to leave the lot after handling the clearly loose-to-the-touch installation. He also failed to tighten the ball mount at all, which he personally installed. Luckily, I was diligent and replaced the the weldnut by removing the bumper to access the frame rail, in addition to actually securing the ball mount. He literally did not perform a single aspect of his job and I was shocked by the blatant disregard for safety. He should be fired for negligence.

Honestly this whole experience was horrible. I really do not complain much but I hope the manager will see this. 2 months prior to the trip that I was going to make from Humboldt down to San Diego, I went into uhaul to get an estimate for a tow hitch installment & the dolly for my car. They told me $350 plus tax, I repeated and asked if that's what the cost would be for both, hitch and dolly and they repeated as if they were annoyed that I had asked again and said yes. Also, I was ordering the hitch that day so that it would be in town on time and the worker told me that it was not needed that day, I could call in at least a couple weeks before the departure day, so I did. I called about a month and a half prior to order the hitch, 2 weeks went by and I called to make sure the order was still put in but the worker said nothing was ever ordered under my name, so I explained everything I needed for the order and that male worker was not understanding the order, I asked to talk to the manager and he said to call back in about ten minutes, so I did. No one answered. A few days later I called l again about ten minutes before closing, the woman that answered helped me out and placed the order. This was about 2 and a half weeks before my drive down to SD. Then I called in about a week and a half before I left AGAIN and the order was not placed AGAIN! the woman that helped me that time sounded frantic and placed the order, by the time I needed to leave, I called the day before and also went into uhaul to see if my order was there and dissappintingly it wasn't. I drove around town looking for anywhere that could help but it was a Sunday and I had to leave the next day. Uhaul said my order wouldn't be there until Wednesday. I had to postpone my drive and wait because there was no other option. When I went to pay for the service I got charged once for $355 for just the hitch and installment and another $320 for the dolly when I was clearly told that it wouldn't be more than $350 plus tax. I wouldn't have towed my little car down because it isn't even worth it for that price. So many things went wrong. Also, I forgot at what point but I had called eureka uhaul and no one answered so it transferred me to a customer service call and that lady was rude. She said someone would call me from eureka about my order and I never received that call. I had to call back again. Once I got my hitch on and dolly, I took it to put my civic on it, that was a hassle since the transmission went out. Once I got on the freeway, the plastic piece that goes over the dolly wheels was flapping all crazy, they gave me a broken dolly. I called uhaul to make sure I would not be charged for it. How could they not clearly see that it was broken!? I never want to use that place again.

a U haul rep hooked up the rental trailer, while making a left turn out of the u haul facility the trailer came off....the trailer hitch was not tightened down.....thank goodness for safety chains.

The truck was excellent, and handled well. One thing I noticed was that the "check engine" light was on when I picked it up. That may not be important. The personnel were cheerful, helpful, friendly, and competent.

The guarantee of a $50 refund for a broken reservation was not honored. In the Clerks explanation: If the reservation was at 8am and the vehicle was not returned from the previous user until 4 hours later, and given that I still took the 4 hour late truck, then the "reservation" was not broken. I had to call all my workers and have them delayed for 4 hours. I think they should honor their $50 commitment but they wont. They weaseled their way out of that claim and I am upset that U-haul will not keep its word. Tim Payer
