The change oil light came on late in the evening during the second half of our 1800 mile drive. We reserved a truck for 1800 miles, UHaul knew we were driving 1800 miles and they still gave us a vehicle that would not reach our destination without issue. We had a choice of either pulling over when the plan was to drive through the night, and then trying to find a room for the night (over thanksgiving weekend no less) and hoping to be reimbursed for that cost (you think they would do that?) or driving on to our destination and hoping the engine didn’t seize (and do you think we would not be held responsible for the cost of repairs?) Talk about being put in a lose-lose situation: DID NOT appreciate it. But congrats to Uhaul for setting up a win-win situation with this scenario which caught us off-guard...you won!...though you lost a customer...we should use Penske or Ryder in the future and WILL ask them ahead of time when was the last time the oil was changed. Lesson learned.

1. My preferred location is Mill Valley. Friday night, I received a notification that my truck would be ready in Redwood City, 40 miles away. This was 12 hours before I was supposed to pick up the truck. The change of location caused me to have to make a 2 hour round trip this morning that was not in my schedule. 2. I had scheduled movers to assist with loading the truck in Sausalito at 9:00 a.m. and to unload the truck in El Dorado HIlls at 3:00 p.m. Due to issue #1 I had to reschedule the movers to 11:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Luckily they were available to do so. 3. During this rental I also received a notification that my truck was ready at the San Rafael location, it was not, I know this because I went there first thing this morning. The person at that location was of absolutely no help, and told me "Good luck, I hope your truck is in Redwood City." 4. Once I got to Redwood City, and yes thankfully my truck was there, I was told that I would receive a "$50 dollar discount and a 100 mile add on" to my reservation. This is what UHaul finds acceptable ? Two hours of driving that I had not planned, the toll for crossing the Golden Gate Bridge, having to reschedule the movers. How can you run a business, where you take a deposit for a reservation, then move the pickup location by 40 miles?! How is this acceptable? How can you not review an order that has additional services that have been scheduled and paid for and not realize that a change of pickup location would be very detrimental to the customers experience? I want to be clear, the poor experience rating was earned by UHaul the corporate entity, not the pick up or drop off location. I overheard others in BOTH locations complaining that they had had similar experiences with UHaul, and that "Its just they was they do business now..." Well, not for me any longer. I will pay extra to have a moving company handle my moves, and I will not be recommending UHaul as a business that should be supported by my friends, family or community.
