When I first arrived to return the truck, the office was closed for lunch. I was on a very packed schedule that day and couldn’t wait 30 minutes for the office to reopen, so I tried to return the truck through the U-Haul app. Unfortunately, I found the online return process very difficult to navigate. I called the 1-800 number for assistance, and the representative patiently spent the entire 30 minutes walking me through the many steps required to return the truck through my phone. Even with her help, we were still working through the process when the employee returned from lunch, so I ultimately returned the truck in person. What made the experience especially frustrating was learning afterward that completing the return through the app wasn’t even necessary I could have simply left the keys in the after-hours drop box. It would have been extremely helpful to have a sign on or near the drop box explaining this option. That simple information would have saved me 30 minutes and a great deal of frustration. I do want to be very clear that my frustration is with the return process, NOT with either employee who assisted me. Both the representative on the phone and the employee at the location could not have been kinder, more patient, or more helpful. They both provided outstanding customer service, which I greatly appreciated.
