After my reservation was moved twice by U-Haul, Oceanside was excellent. Using the U-Haul. app, I made my initial reservation at the Carlsbad location. Only to be informed that Carlsbad is more focused on storage and not trucks. It was good that U-Haul called me and let me know that, good customer service.My reservation was transferred to Vista (shipmate). When I arrived Saturday morning per my reservation to retrieve the truck, this location was not even open yet and there were no trucks in sight. I called the U-Haul 800 number and was told that my truck was not returned the evening before. My reservation was then moved to Oceanside and I drove there to get my truck. I would suggest to U-Haul to remove Carlsbad and shipmate from your app locations as they clearly have no truck inventory. Oceanside was great, plenty of inventory and they took care of me very well. There is even parking nearby if you need to come alone and leave your vehicle while you are using the truck.
JOHN CThis man was so kind, pleasant, and helpful! He has a very small business and needs more support from U-Haul. He did not have any hand carts or hand trucks and very minimal supplies. However, he sent someone to pick up a hand truck from another location for me. I think U-Haul should send reps to the smaller rental stores to make sure they're thriving. He went out of his way to inspire confidence for my long drive ahead.
Colette A1) When I arrived, I found a vehicle with a dirty front windshield. 2) I was offered the oldest rental among all available, and when I asked for another, I was told it was for intercity rentals... what!?? 🫣😄 3) When the vehicle was returned, the odometer said I had driven 113 miles, but when I double-checked the locations I visited, it was 100 miles. I'm okay with a 1% or even 2% or 3% mistake. But 13% is stealing 15 bucks from my family! 4) The location team was friendly and nice, but that's not the only thing I value in the experience I paid $200 for (rental + insurance + miles + gas).
STANISLAV KThis isn’t a reflection on the location itself, because the owner did his best with finding me a truck when my reservation that was made 3 weeks prior was not sent to him. The owner saw that there were multiple notes in my account from uhaul representatives stating that they did not have the 15ft truck and tow dolly available that I reserved 3 weeks in advance. This information was not communicated to the owner at this location nor was anything communicated to me at all. My initial reservation email stated that I would be contacted THE LATEST the night before my reservation to confirm equipment and I had zero contact. Uhaul had 3 weeks to contact me with issues and I heard absolutely nothing from them, so when I showed up for my reservation for my 1200 mile one way move, it was not available. The owner contacted multiple locations and was only able to find me a 20 ft truck and a flat bed trailer which was way larger and more difficult to drive than what I wanted to as a single female traveling cross country. I made it work best I could, but this was extremely challenging and unsafe since I was given no choice but to drive a much larger truck and trailer than I have experienced driving. Uhauls communication and reservation system was a failure in multiple ways.
