While the Redford location in general, and Dawn Miner, General Manager in particular made it into a good situation, getting to that point was a terrible experience. I originally reserved a 15' truck at 9 Mile Road and Telegraph in Southfield, they move my reservation to 8 Mlie and Telegraph in Detroit with a 20' truck. Finally, on the day of the move they informed me that my truck, now at 26' was over 26 miles away in downtown Detroit, MI. I was finally directed to the Redford location, closer, but still not as convenient as my first selection. They too only had a 26' truck but Dawn Miner was able to secure the truck I needed, saving me gas money and reducing handling issues that a larger truck offered. I had "reserved" a truck at a location, time and size. I was very disappointed in the level of service and the cavalier unconcern for me and my requests. Why offer a reservation if you are not going to honor it? This action delayed my departure for several hours. I hired movers to assist and they had to wait while I drove cross-town to secure the truck. Overall VERY poor customer service - I would be hard-pressed to ever recommend U-Haul to any of my friends or co-workers. I would certainly explore other options the next time I am in need of self-directed moving services. 1-Star

The fuel gauge indicator on the dash board is so small that a large quantity of gas do not show any difference for the pointer.. So for a small trip of ten miles ,the person at the counter ask you to put 7 gallons of gas and so forth. This Is a rip-off from the customer. so make the fuel ,meter large enough so that a difference of 2 gallons can show a difference for the pointer, on the level of gas.

I scheduled a 26 foot truck rental and went to pick it up but it was not at the facility. We had to run all of the city to find the truck that we rented. Horrible experience. Why make a reservation if I have to drive from location to location to actually find what I reserved. This made the unpleasant moving process even more unpleasant.

When we went to pick up the truck before opening using the U-Haul app, it was blocked in by trucks that had been returned the night before. We had to wait two hours until the store opened to pick up the truck, while I had a moving crew waiting for me at the house. The 26' truck we rented was in pretty rough shape on the exterior and was a older than expected. The truck ran fine and did the job, but probably cost me more in gas due to the truck being as old as it was. When we did our initial damage check, the employee never looked in the back of the truck to confirm the contents and they wanted to charge me for furniture pads that were never in the truck to begin with. I would have given my experience one star had it not been for the general manager on staff. She was the only one that understood my problems and was able to take care of them to my satisfaction.

I did the online check-in, but still had to wait 45 minutes in line to get my keys. There should be a different process for online checkins to get their keys. I was nearly late for the return time due to the loss of 45 minutes at the start.
