I go to McClendon's almost every day. I live close by and even rent a storage unit at a facility at the end of their lot. I rented a truck about a month ago. I made sure I told the manager that the truck I had was the nicest I have ever rented before. And I have rented a lot of trucks in my 66 years of life. But that all changed. I went to the store on January 10 to rent a truck for a day. It was later in the evening, near closing. I got the key to the truck and went out to it. It wasn't near the other trucks. It was in another row in the corner of the lot. I opened the door and said no way. It was filthy dirty! There was mud all over. Ok we live in a rainy state but I thought they had to be cleaned between customers. Then I opened up the back. It was soaking wet! The walls were wet, ceiling and the floor had puddles of water. Not only that it smelled like a barn. I immediately shut it and went back inside. I told the lady forget it. It was really bad. I said don't you have to clean them? She said her manager states they don't. I'm not sure if she meant they don't even wipe them down but this one was disgusting! So she gave me another truck. I went back out and opened it up. It was better but there was still mud all over the driver and passenger's side. I opened up the back and it was at least dry and didn't smell like the other truck. I went out to take pictures but my phone died. I drove home which was just a couple blocks away. After I charged my phone back up I clicked on the link to upload the truck pictures but my area is super dark. Your app would not take them. I do have them on file. The next morning I went out to take pictures. The link didn't work so I called the store. She said if nothing is that damaged don't worry about it. I told her I had pictures just in case. I opened the back and the floor was quite dirty. It filled a dust pan. Right there on the wall is a sign saying to leave the truck clean or you will be charged $25 cleaning fee. What about us who find a dirty truck and have to clean it before we even get to use it? I had just hours to pack a truck, also go to recycling and dump which is next door to the storage unit. I could not get help moving so it was all on me. The store closed at 7 but you have to get the truck back by 6. My whole round trip was 8 miles. It was near 6 and I had an option of returning the truck without a wipe down and not adding any gas or taking care of it. I was brought up to respect other's property so I cleaned the mud and dirt even the passenger side that I never touched and swept and wiped down the back. I also put gas in the truck. So then I was late. So I got charged for another day. Yes my fault. Knowing that they don't clean the trucks there I will not rent from them again. It's too bad and I don't hold the employee responsable. It's too bad especially because I go there all the time and feel they have wonderful staff. I feel like I should have received the $25 rebate for cleaning the truck. It took time out of packing it before and I wouldn't have had to spend as much time after as well. I am planning on moving soon and have a couple storage units. It saddens me to see the trucks in this way.
SHERYL KWould have been nice to know I was going to be charged $1.56 per mile… holly shockeraroony
SUSANNA MMake sure the back of the U-Haul is swept out and free of debris.
Mary KBattery on my rental died and I basically got a "sorry that stinks" when I called the store. I was able to get it jumped after a couple hours and several seperate attempts over the course of 2 days. But nobody on the phone could tell me if I was going to be charged for calling roadside. I was told that if I didn't have it back by my return time that I'd be charged for an extra day. You're going to charge me for an extra day because you rented me a vehicle that didn't work? Absolutely not. Was really disappointed in the customer service and lack of staff knowledge. I'm glad I got it to work without having to call roadside, but that was several hours of my time that I'll never get back.
