Product Description

Part Number:
BACKSWING

The Yakima BackSwing extension gives your hitch-mount rack the freedom to swing out of the way so you can access your tailgate. It locks in place while you’re on the road, then unlocks so you can swing your fully-loaded rack a full 90-degrees out of the way to grab your gear, cooler, dog - or just sit and enjoy some post-ride tailgating. Built strong, the BackSwing can hold up to 250 pounds and works with just about any hitch-mount rack using a 2” receiver.

  • Hitch extension converts most 2” hitch products to a swing-away rack
  • Swings open up to 90 degrees and locks in place at the desired angle
  • Secures to any 2” hitch receiver using a threaded pin
  • Safety latch secures the rack closed while in transit
  • Included SKS (Same Key System) lock keeps the rack secure
  • Does not include bike carrier - Sold Separately.

The Backswing is exactly what we needed and it works great! We already have an Allen 4 bike rack that works well for our bikes, but it has a pivot down feature and is virtually impossible to lift up when fully loaded when trying to access the tailgate. The Backswing is easy to install and operate. It pushes the rack back, so we can actually access our Forester without swinging it open for smaller items. But when loading/unloading bigger items or for getting our dog in and out, the swing feature is really nice. The hitch lock works well, and I use a separately bought one to lock the rack to the swing. The lock down bolt and clamp tighten up the whole rack so much more than before - we just did an 800 mile trip and the bike rack and swing were super secure and didn't bounce around or make noise. The swing opens to the passenger side, so you do need a little room for that - a parking lot with narrow spaces probably wouldn't work well. My kids also have fun helping open and close the swing and think it's really "cool"!
