They may absorb moisture, but if the container gets knocked the littlest bit, it cracks open. The first one cracked, then I accidentally dropped the second one and the little balls went everywhere. I swept up as much as I could, but I thought the plastic was so unnecessarily brittle.

curious - how would we use this with the mattress bag...typically the beads from these convert to water - drawing the moisture out of the air through the beads- then becomes water....trying to envision how this would work with a mattress- in storage...to not spill then all over the mattress....
