Mars Microphone
The Planetary Society has funded the Mars Microphone, a listening device that was part of the Mars Surveyor '98 mission and was placed on Mars' surface to send sound samples back to Earth. The Mars Microphone, developed at the University of California at Berkeley Space Science Laboratory was tested in Denver shortly before Super Bowl XXXII. The first sounds transmitted successfully to California were those of clean-room personnel cheering for the Denver Broncos to beat Green Bay.
