Interview with an expert

To inform and teach Web visitors more about the happyface spider, as well as the Hawaiian evolution and ecosystems, U-Haul interviewed an expert on these topics, Dr. Sam Gon, director of science at the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii.

U-Haul: Good morning Sam. Could you tell us a little bit about what you do at the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii?

Dr. Gon: I'm the director of science for the Nature Conservancy of Hawaii. The Nature Conservancy is a science-driven organization. Our mission is to protect the fullest possible range of biological diversity on this planet and any place we're working, like the Hawaiian Islands. We find – in great detail – what the patterns of biological diversity are on the islands, how they function in the ecosystem they live in and what threats exist. I'm part of the team that helps assess the science behind what we do in Hawaii: the biology of the species here, the ecosystem processes that occur… even down to the most effective techniques for dealing with conservation issues in Hawaii.
