Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence - SETI

Looking up into the night (and sometimes early morning) sky, what do you see? You may see the moon, you may see some stars or perhaps you may see something that holds your gaze just a little while longer than normal and, as you turn away unsure, you wonder what it was that you just saw in the vast sky. On a clear night, the unaided, human eye can see a few thousand stars. However, this is only a tiny fraction of the actual number of stars and other objects in our Milky Way galaxy.

Are we alone in this world? People have pondered this question since scientists and astronomers first realized that the points of light in the night sky are other suns. Since the late 20th century, technology has advanced to where we can seek scientific evidence to help answer this age-old question: Are we alone in this world? The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) attempts to detect civilizations elsewhere in the universe, particularly in our galaxy. Astronomers indicate that billions of places outside our solar system may host life that we could possibly discover, if it has developed to a technological level at least as advanced as our own.
