Storage Coming to U-Haul North Smithfield Store This Summer

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (May 31, 2016) — U-Haul is nearing completion of a major phase of its adaptive reuse project to transform a former laser-tag arena and arcade into a full-service moving and storage facility in North Smithfield.

U-Haul of North Smithfield at 408 Eddie Dowling Hwy. will soon introduce 667 state-of-the-art indoor self-storage rooms with heating, with the first 88 rooms available to rent by mid-to-late summer as phase one of the storage build-out is finished.

U-Haul initially opened for business at the 22-acre property in August 2014 with a temporary showroom featuring a fleet of U-Haul trucks. Today, the store offers truck and trailer rentals, towing equipment and professional hitch installation, moving supplies and boxes, propane and much more.

In addition to self-storage rooms of various sizes and costs being completed in a matter of weeks, the North Smithfield location will soon offer U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers and a U-Box warehouse as well.

“This is our first adaptive reuse project since I became the marketing company president here,” U-Haul Company of Rhode Island president Sandra Gardner said. “This store will be operated by people who are part of this community. We take great pride in our communities and will offer superior convenience and low costs.”

Gardner noted that the store would bring jobs to the community. A current six-person staff is likely to double with the addition of self-storage and a full line of U-Haul products and services.

“I’m really excited to open a store in this area,” general manager Tom Sullivan said. “The closest one is in Cumberland, and there are only a couple of U-Haul neighborhood dealers here in North Smithfield. We are excited to meet the needs of these neighborhoods. People come in every day asking when our storage will be open.”

Stop by to visit Sullivan and his team for information about the storage options coming to North Smithfield, or call (401) 762-2178. Hours of operation are from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and Saturday; 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Reserve equipment at uhaul.com or contact Reservations at 1-800-GO-UHAUL.
