U-Haul Kicks Off Top 10 U.S. Growth Cities of 2015 Countdown

Missoula Makes the List at No. 10; Follow Twitter for Announcement of Top 9

PHOENIX (Jan. 25, 2016) — Booming college towns, traditional big-city markets and a few surprise newcomers drove their way onto the Top 10 U.S. Growth Cities of 2015.

U-Haul International, Inc., the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage, will be announcing the list via Twitter @uhaul in a countdown-style format over the next 10 weekdays, culminating with the No. 1 city on Feb. 5.

Readers will be directed to the U-Haul Company blog myuhaulstory.com, where each city will be profiled with statistical data, infographics, city-specific moving tips, photos, and comments from U-Haul officials, city mayors and other community leaders.

Missoula, Mont., kicks off the countdown today as the No. 10 U.S. Growth City.

The rankings were determined by the net gain of incoming one-way U-Haul truck rentals versus outgoing rentals for the past calendar year. While U-Haul migration trends don’t correlate directly to population or economic growth, the data is a strong gauge of how well cities are attracting and keeping residents. The report was compiled from more than 1.7 million one-way U-Haul truck transactions that occurred in 2015. All cities are considered, regardless of size.

As part of the countdown, U-Haul will offer more media-friendly statistics than ever before, including the percentage of incoming versus outgoing one-way traffic and the year-over-year increase or decrease in traffic for each city on the list.

U-Haul will release its growth state rankings on Feb. 5 in conjunction with the No. 1 city, and will continue its report with the Top 10 Canadian Growth Cities later in February. U-Haul will announce its top Destination Cities as “Moving Season” starts with the arrival of Memorial Day. While growth cities data accounts for incoming and outgoing one-way traffic, destination cities data considers only incoming traffic.

U-Haul is the authority on migration trends thanks to its expansive network that blankets all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces. The geographical coverage from more than 20,000 U-Haul neighborhood dealers and U-Haul-owned and -operated stores offers a comprehensive overview of where people are moving like no one else in the industry.
