U-Haul of Williamsport Closed Doors in August

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Feb. 22, 2016) — The U-Haul store at 157 E. 3rd St. ended its U-Haul operations last Aug. 26 after nearly 20 years in business.

The need to better serve customers at the level they expect prompted the closing of U-Haul of Williamsport.

Local U-Haul Companies are always exploring opportunities for growth but sometimes close or relocate stores for reasons such as shifts in demographics, trends in migration, physical plant limitations, continued expansion of the U-Haul neighborhood dealer network and the proximity of other new or existing U-Haul stores.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of Williamsport at 238 Penn St. opened in August to fill the void left by the closing and meet the moving needs of Lycoming County. U-Haul repurposed the former Eureka Paper Box Company manufacturing facility, a 53,383-square-foot building located on 2.8 acres two blocks from the 3rd Street site.

The full-service store features truck and trailer rentals, moving supplies, 520 self-storage units, a U-Box portable moving and self-storage container warehouse, towing equipment and pre-tow inspection, truck sales, propane and more. Click here for the new store release.

The closed center was a converted old gas station that U-Haul acquired in the 1980s. The new site boasts good visibility from Interstate 180, but moreover it has offerings that the closed center didn’t to more effectively serve Williamsport and meet the high expectations of the community.

U-Haul, the industry leader in do-it-yourself moving and self-storage, serves customers in all 50 states and 10 Canadian provinces through more than 20,000 locations.
