U-Haul to Distribute American Flags and Support Our Troops Magnets During the 2013 New York City Veterans Day Parade — “America’s Parade”

NEW YORK (Nov. 11, 2013) —  U-Haul will be joining the United War Veterans Council on Monday, November 11, in honoring our nation’s heroes and to pay tribute to our veterans and troops throughout the world during the 94th annual New York City Veterans Day Parade.   This will be U-Haul Company’s 10th consecutive year sponsoring the New York City Veterans Day parade and will be distributing flags and "Support Our Troops" ribbon magnets to spectators along the parade route.

This year the parade is being recognized officially as “America’s Parade,” serving as a national salute to our nation’s veterans, commemorating the contributions of Women in Service and honoring the US Army as its featured service branch.

U-Haul, founded by World War II Navy veteran L.S. “Sam” Shoen and his wife Anna Mary Carty Shoen, relied on returning veterans to help start the U-Haul organization and make it the company it is today.

U-Haul continues to embrace the veteran’s community in its workforce and provides veterans with a high priority in our recruiting process.

“U-Haul is honored to be a sponsor to the New York City Veterans Day Parade,” stated U-Haul Executive Vice President Stuart Shoen.  “Since 1945, U-Haul has relied heavily on hiring veterans to work for the U-Haul organization and our success as an organization is due to veterans being successful leaders and executives.  U-Haul simply wants to give back to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom, and providing them with career opportunities is just one way for us to show our support.”

“U-Haul has been the backbone of our nation’s growth. It was conceived while L.S. “Sam” Shoen was serving our nation, and the Company has kept its pledges and promises ever since,” exclaimed Pat Gualtieri, executive director, United War Veterans Council. “Veterans and military alike know they have a friend in U-Haul, which is one of our country’s largest supporters of these proud men and women.”

U-Haul wants our veterans to know we are here for them and we care about them.  We salute you!
