Change of Address - Title Graphic

There are so many things to take care of when you move—packing, reserving a truck, and coordinating moving help. Changing your address may be the last thing on your mind. But this list will help you prioritize which companies to notify prior to your move and which ones can wait until after.

The first and most important change of address you’ll want to make is with the United States Postal Service. You can do this online or at a nearby post office.

Prior to Moving

These companies will need to know about your change of address prior to your move so that they can transfer your services to your new home. Change of Address - Before You Move

Financial Institutions

Although it would be nice to move and not tell your credit card company where to find you, it’s probably in your best interest—and the best interest of your credit score—to notify the following financial institutions.

  • Banks/Credit unions including credit card companies
  • Investment brokers
  • Lenders (automotive, home, personal, etc.)
  • Credit reporting agencies

Rest of the World

Now that the government and bill collectors know where to find you, you’ll want to make sure that the rest of the world knows, too.

  • Automotive insurance company
  • Professional associations/Clubs/Church
