Moving during the winter can be tough going; especially if you live in an extremely cold climate. You will usually rise before the sun, and brave the cold and frost. The good news is that as soon as you start loading or unloading, you’ll begin to get warmed up (plus, all U-Haul trucks have heaters in the cab).
To keep you feeling toasty throughout your move, here are a few winter meal ideas that you can bring along on the road. Simply microwave them before you go, and store them in a thermos, insulated food bag, or fridge box
Hot cocoa
Keep this classic winter favorite in a thermos and bring a long some marshmallows for a sugar kick just before you arrive and start unpacking. The whole family will love it, especially the little ones!
Must Try: Snow Flake Cocoa
Oatmeal
This makes for a nutritious and hearty breakfast or an anytime healthy snack on the road. Jazz it up with some almonds, dried fruit, and cinnamon and you’ll be warm, toasty (and full) in no time. Plus, this snack will give you plenty of energy to take on the day.
Must Try: PB & J Protein Oats
Stew
Stew is great because it’s basically a portable version of a meal you would normally eat at a table with silverware. This makes for a substantial meal you can enjoy on the road and a great make-ahead dish for the first night in your new home (it sure beats take out)!
Must Try: Old Fashioned Beef Stew
Soup
This meal is a close cousin to stew but provides even more portability because it requires no utensils. Simply store it in a sip-able cup and you are good to go. Warm, filling and convenient. All you need when you are on the move.
Must Try: Creamy Tomato Soup
