Turn the volume up, change the station, update your Facebook status, take a sip of your drink, respond to a text message, send a Tweet to the world about your drive from Raleigh, to Atlanta,  all while posting a pic on Instagram of your view from behind the wheel. What do each of these activities have in common? Two words: distracted driving.

Not everyone is guilty of engaging in these types of activities behind the wheel, but there is one group who is most at risk. According to the NHTSA , drivers under the age of 25 are two to three times more likely than older drivers to send text messages or e-mails while driving. AAA also reports that 36 states have a Teen Driver Ban on Cell Phones. So, what does this tell us? Distracted driving is serious and can be fatal.

April is Distracted Driving awareness month and at Moving Insider, we care about the safety of everyone on the road. We want to help build awareness of this epidemic in communities nationwide. If you want to get involved with helping combat distracted driving among teens, take the pledge to do the following:

  • Protect lives by never texting or talking on the phone while driving.
  • Be a good passenger and speak out if the driver in my car is distracted.
  • Encourage my friends and family to drive phone-free.

So, whether you’re doing your normal work commute, shopping for groceries, driving cross-country on your move, or visiting family, the end to distracted driving starts with you.

What ideas do you have to help keep your community aware of distracted driving? Have you taken the pledge to become a better driver? Let us know in the comment section below.
