Moving While Pregnant

moving while pregnant

Two years ago my wife and I moved into a new house, she was four months pregnant with our third child. Needless to say we have been through this before. My wife is a tough gal and prides herself on accomplishments. Naturally, she wanted to have an impact on moving day and help load our belongings into the moving truck. I did not want her to get hurt, strained or put any type of stress on herself which would directly affect our growing baby.

Now I have done this before, so I was able to find a few good buddies to help with the heavy lifting. If this isn’t the case for you, hire Moving Help® and you can sit back and relax. Here’s how we had success moving while pregnant.

Packing and Loading

I was lucky enough to find a few good buddies to help us move. If you don’t

have a team to help you with your move, hire Moving Help! We only had 20-25 moving boxes packed up on moving day so my friends helped load the big stuff into the truck first. While we were transporting from garage to truck, my wife was able to work on packing smaller items in the kitchen and bathrooms.

As mentioned, I had a few of my friends over who were helping me load all the big stuff. After a few hours of loading the moving truck, I could hear everyone’s stomach start to growl. I walked out of our moving truck and guess what? I see my wife trying to carry boxes down from upstairs!  I calmly reminded her that she shouldn’t be lifting heavy boxes and leave this task up to my friends and me. She wanted to help on moving day – as a solution, she picked up pizza for the team. If you don’t want to settle for pizza on moving day, there are other quick meal options.

One-Offs and Space Fillers

She wants to help. You don’t want her to strain herself. The solution I found was to have her bring one-off items or space fillers that were less than 20lbs to the door for easy loading. Not sure exactly what that means? Here are a few examples of one-off items:

  • The 10lb 5ft lamp(s) that don’t fit in moving boxes
  • Pictures, art and mirrors from all the walls
  • Place books, magazines, video games, dvd’s into a medium or large moving box

Here are a few examples of space fillers:

  • Blankets, comforters and sleeping bags
  • Couch cushions, pillows and rugs
  • Anything else that is lightweight, cannot be damaged or not fragile items
