So you have decided to move to California’s capital, Sacramento! The gateway to lakes, rivers, and mountains, Sacramento is a great place to get a mixture of city life and the nature life. In a hop, skip and a jump you could be fishing in a nearby river or be headed to the Bay Area. But before you get too exciting exploring everything, here are some tips on moving to Sacramento:
School Schedules
There are multiple universities in the Sacramento area so you are going to want to be aware of the school schedules for moving in and out for the summer. These busy times means longer lines and lots of traffic. Odds are the availability of moving equipment will be less during those times so if you absolutely have to move during that time, make your reservation early.
This is also the warmest time in Sacramento, which can include 100+ temperatures so avoid it if you can.
Storage
Because of the weather, you will want to plan out your storage in advance. Take an inventory of what items you want to put in storage. If you are storing household items like candles or photographs, you will want to use climate-controlled storage so the heat doesn’t ruin your belongings. If you are storing seasonal clothing or other items that are not delicate, regular storage should be fine. You can even look for drive-up storage for the convenience factor.
The best way to avoid a moving day fail is to pack ahead too. Making sure your items are packed securely and labeled will make the day much smoother. This is especially helpful if you decide to hire moving helpers.
People
Between having the universities in the city and retirement communities in the suburbs, there’s great diversity in Sacramento. Whatever your interest, you will be able to find people with similar interests who will enjoy the same things. Whether its the historic Sacramento Zoo or checking out a Sacramento Kings game, there’s always something to do!
