Moving to Charlotte, NC

Charlotte, North Carolina, nicknamed the Queen City, is making its way through the ranks to become the United States’ 16th largest city and the second largest banking center in the country, behind New York. Despite its rising popularity, there’s plenty of room for you! Here’s what you need to know about moving to Charlotte.

Weather

Charlotte is an ideal locale if you’re looking for a city that boasts four distinct seasons. Winters are chilly, yet short with minimal snow. You’ll experience hot and humid summers with a possibility of tropical storms, as Charlotte sits in the path of hurricanes. Spring brings warm days and cool nights. In the fall, the leaves begin to change, transforming Charlotte into a picturesque scene.

Neighborhoods

Charlotte may be a modern city, but there’s no denying its southern roots. If you look past the glass and steel-constructed skyline, you’ll find neighborhoods reminiscent of southern days gone by.

  • Myers Park: What began as a farm in 1891, quickly transformed into an affluent community. With dreamy, tree-lined roads that wind past grand estates, this is surely one neighborhood you need to visit.
  • Dilworth: Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Dilworth was the first community in Charlotte to utilize streetcars as a method of transportation. Dilworth is truly delightful, with bungalow-styled homes, wrap-around porches, and Oak-sheathed sidewalks.
  • NoDa: Short for North Davidson, NoDa is Charlotte’s art district and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood has seen an increase in residents in recent years. In addition to the arts, NoDa has an explosive entertainment scene, featuring gallery crawls, restaurants and music venues.
  • Southpark: Southpark is one of Charlotte’s largest business districts and employs approximately 40,000 people.
  • University: The University of North Carolina Charlotte now sits on what was once sprawling fields of farmland. Additionally, there are numerous options for dining and shopping.

Getting There

Whether you’re moving cross-country or from a neighboring city, reliable and efficient moving is the key to a successful move! Make sure your method of transportation is large enough to hold all of your belongings. Making a single trip will save you money, time, and stress. So grab a friend, family member or some moving help and get going!
