Living in Charlotte

Lying in the heart of the southeastern United States, Charlotte is only a short drive to many other major cities and landmarks, including Orlando, Washington DC and New York City. If you’ve recently decided to make the Queen City your home, here are a few of the awesome things to while living in Charlotte.

Have Some Fun!

Carowinds, Carolina’s go-to amusement park, is a must! With rides that appeal to, both, families and thrill seekers, there’s something here for everyone. In September and October, the park offers Scarowinds Halloween Haunt and The Great Pumpkin Fest.

For the NASCAR enthusiast, check out the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which features numerous events throughout the year.

If culture is what you seek, then stop by the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta.

Take a step back into aviation history at Carolinas Aviation Museum.

Jobs and Education

Second only to New York City, Charlotte is the largest banking center in the world. So it’s no surprise that two major financial corporations–Wells Fargo Company and Bank of America– serve as some of Charlotte’s top employers.

In addition, Carolinas HealthCare System and Lowe’s call Charlotte their home.

Charlotte offers many options for higher education, including the University of North Carolina Charlotte and Wake Forest University of School and Business.

Sports and Recreation

Charlotte is home to two professional sports organizations. Spend a crisp, fall day rooting for the back-to-back NFC South Champions Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium. Or take in some hoops watching the Charlotte Hornets hit the court at the Time Warner Cable Arena.

If you’re more of a participator than an observer, the U.S. National Whitewater Center offers a variety of outdoor, recreational activities for people of all ages and skill sets. You can partake in whitewater rafting, kayaking, paddle boarding, rock climbing or mountain biking.

By Mountain or By Sea

One of the best parts about living in Charlotte is that you’re only a short trip away from the gorgeous mountains AND the coast!

The Blue Ridge Parkway is only a couple of hours from Charlotte and is “America’s Favorite Drive.” It winds on for 469 miles throughout North Carolina and into neighboring Virginia.

The Outer Banks are a string of barrier islands off of North Carolina’s shore and are a major tourist destination. In less time, however, many Charlotteans head to Myrtle Beach for some fun in the sun.

Are you a Charlotte native or a newcomer? What tips do you have for those makers who are making Charlotte their home?
