5 Shopping Tips for Black Friday Deals

Nov 19, 2015

Black Friday shopping: it’s an American Tradition at this point. It used to be that you had dinner with your loved ones on Thanksgiving and the next morning you headed over to the stores to find the best deals. This is no longer the case. The prep for Black Friday shopping starts days, maybe even weeks before Thanksgiving Day.

Plan Ahead

In the weeks and days leading up to Black Friday, retailers will reveal their holiday deals. Go through all of your favorite retailers and map out not only what you want to buy, but also in order of priority. Chances are you won’t have time to get everything, make sure to allocate your time appropriately.

Prepare for Lines

This is a no-brainer at this point. Prepare for lines before you step foot in the door. The retailers with the best deals will have lines outside the building prior to opening their doors. So, if you really want to get your hands on that cheap gaming console, get there early. Cut into your dinner time and head out to the store. Bring a sleeping bag, a tent or a propane heater to keep yourself warm as it will be a long night.

If you’re going to buy large, expensive items like televisions, gaming systems or appliances make sure you have the right car to take them back home. Also, take into consideration if you’re going to go from one store to another you don’t want to store these in a pickup truck. For the easiest transportation method, plan ahead and rent a cargo van. These are large enough to fit all your purchases, while still providing the security you need.

Double Check Prices

A lot of the times retailers will try and trick consumers into purchasing products that aren’t necessarily on sale. Make sure to do your research beforehand. Perhaps the same product will have a better sale later on the holiday season. Remember, just because it’s a door-buster, doesn’t mean it’s a deal.

Beware of Impulse Buys

Make sure to give yourself a budget before heading out the door. Once you’re at the store you’ll be tempted to sway. Giving yourself a budget will help you avoid the return lines in the days following the Black Friday madness.
