Life moves fast and does not slow down just because you are moving. Juggling your move with everything else is a lot; that’s why we came up with this helpful list of tips to assist with packing!
Tip 1: Planning: Work Smarter, not Harder
Planning is EVERYTHING! We all want to work smarter, not harder, especially with your upcoming move. Take a few moments and strategize how you are going to pack.
- Maybe your method is to pack room by room so you can physically see your progress.
- If your move is happening a little later, note the things you use daily, so those are packed up last.
Tip 2: Give Yourself Plenty of Time!
Time is important. It is best to overestimate the time it will take to pack by 50%. Giving yourself a tight schedule to work with will only add stress to the process and does not leave room for errors that can happen along the way. And, if that extra time has you finishing early, take a moment to take a deep breath and relax; you deserve it!
Tip 3: Have Moving Supplies Handy
Get more moving supplies than you think you will need. Nothing is worse than being in the middle of a productive move and running out of tape. With our moving supplies calculator, you can generate a personalized list of recommended moving boxes and packing supplies to determine what you need for your next move. U-Haul offers an excellent return policy, so you can return unused items.
- Fun fact: U-Haul has an eco-friendly program that lets you return used boxes so others can reuse them! It’s sustainable and a great way to help a neighbor in need.
Tip 4: Pack Smart
When packing your box, ensure it is the right “handling” size. We’re not as young as we used to be, so avoiding potential pain is crucial. Any items you need while packing, driving, or unpacking should be packed last, and the boxes marked should be placed where you can easily find them.
Tip 5: Hire Help for Ease!
If you need help packing, you can hire Moving Helpers to do the packing and/or loading. You provide the moving supplies, and they do the rest.
Keep thinking of the big picture in your move, and don’t sweat the small stuff. Every action will have challenges, so expect the unexpected and get moving!
