Depending on what stage you’re at in life, you may have a lot of things to haul in your upcoming move. The question for some may be, “Should I rent a moving truck for all my stuff, or will my friend’s van work?” While for others, the answer to that is obvious, and the real mystery is whether even a moving truck can haul it all in one trip. After all, every vehicle has its limits! So this begs the question, “What is the total weight you can haul in a moving truck?”
For the most part, any moving truck that can fit your household items should have no problem handling their combined weight. However, if you’re hauling heavier-than-average items such as workout equipment, you may want to double-check to ensure your rental truck can take it. Here’s the total weight you can carry in a moving truck.
The Size of the Truck in the Haul
A popular quote by Mark Twain goes, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” While that quote may be inspirational for dogs and other small mammals worldwide, it doesn’t hold true for moving trucks.
The weight a truck can handle will increase as the truck’s size does (with a few exceptions). For instance, our 10′ truck can carry 2,850 pounds. Meanwhile, a 26′ truck can carry up to 12,859 pounds. The image to the right gives you a breakdown of the different size trucks that U-Haul offers and how much weight each one can haul.
