Moving on Christmas

Dec 23, 2013

Jingle bells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman are all common Christmas songs. But where’s the one about moving on Christmas? That’s right, sadly there are none. It’s really nothing you have to be a Grinch or Scrooge about; however, there are plenty of holiday songs to lift your spirits when it comes to moving on Christmas.  The holiday season can be stressful, so finding time to squeeze in moving may seem impossible. Don’t worry, a little strategic planning will help get you through your Christmas Move.

Plan Ahead

The best thing to do in order to avoid stress is to begin the process of packing way ahead of time. Make sure you have enough moving and packing supplies to get you through the move since most moving locations will be closed on Christmas day.  Also, take care of your change of addresses as soon as possible, as many offices are closed the week of Christmas.  Check out this helpful list of important contacts to notify about your move.

Reserving your moving equipment

One important task for any move is reserving your moving truck or trailer. Like most businesses, your local U-Haul centers and Independent dealers will be closed on Christmas day. Your scheduled pick up location will arrange your equipment to be picked up prior to Christmas Day. If you have any questions, contact your local scheduling team or visit uhaul.com/orders.

Packing

As the holiday draws closer and closer as each day passes, it’s safe to say on top of all your Christmas shopping, moving supplies may not #1 on your list of things to purchase. If you’re a little strapped for cash, have no fear because there are several ways you can find the free moving boxes you need in order to get your belongings moved.

Be Merry

One bonus to moving on Christmas, according to theguardian.com, Christmas Day is one of the quietest of the year on the road.  No matter how big or how small your moving load, how short or far of your drive to your new home, don’t forget to keep up the holiday spirit! A few things to keep up the holiday spirit can be as simple playing your favorite holiday playlist, sporting your Christmas sweater or even wearing a Santa hat to spread a little cheer!
