Do you see an adorable or creative moving announcements and think, ” I’m going to do that when I move?” You may even spend months “pinning” ideas to your “Moving” Pinterest board but realize once you move in you can’t even find a stamp or space to DIY! It’s okay you’re not alone (or am I?) moving is chaotic enough, so creating the perfect DIY moving announcement may not be practical. Don’t fret, you can still be creative and green with these 4 paperless moving announcement ideas!
- Create a Facebook Event: As much as we all love getting an unexpected card in the mail, we also love the red notification that pops up on our Facebook page. This may sound like a boring or lazy way to send out moving announcements, you can make this fun and unique. For example:
-
- Create the event before your move and use it to recruit moving help from your friends, or to find extra boxes or moving supplies.
- Create the event after your move and post pictures of your new place. You can collect votes on what color to paint your new kitchen or even how to arrange your living room furniture. We all know people love to give their opinions, so give them a time and place to give it. Just remember to set the event to private.
Paperless Post: Their website states it perfectly -” Get the word out while it’s still news!” This is an inexpensive way to create and personalize cards to send to your friends electronically. You can sign in with your Facebook credentials and have the card sent directly to your friends or import your email list. If you still have a few people not online, you can even choose to have a few cards printed for you from their site.
- Create an online photo album: Use your favorite photo sharing site. You can share the entire process in your photo album, from searching for a new house, packing up and the moving process, and finally your new home itself. For the announcement itself you can be a bit creative. Make signs that say “We’ve Moved!” and hold them up in a picture of you in front of your new home. Use one of your moving boxes to share your address, or if you have a big wardrobe box you can even pack yourself in a box with your new address prominently displayed on the front. Use this photo for the album. Bring a good friend with a camera and have some fun!
- Email: This is not be the most exciting way to announce that you are moving, but it is functional . Just about everyone has an email address and it is instant. As soon as you click send your friends and family will know. You can still be creative though, especially for those who are more literary than visual. Why not tell a little bit of the story of your move? How about a quick poem or Haiku? “Moving time is here – We’re off to new adventures – A new home to share!”
- Post on Instagram! Easy, fun, and no cost. Social media is a great way to update those you don’t see every day without having to spend time and money.
Moving is such an exciting thing; you should be able to share it with your loved ones and friends without the stress of DIYing and spending money on its announcement.
