Lifting a sofa by yourself is not an easy task, but what do you do when it’s only you or you’re unable to due to health or age? Many people cannot afford the luxury of a full service moving company, so many of us still stick with renting a moving truck and trying to find people to help us load the moving truck. We look in the classifieds, on CraigsList, or we go to Google and type in things such as “moving help”. But what do we look for when doing this search for helpers? What questions should we be asking ourselves, and the helpers? The following post gives a few pointers and tips on helping you find help.
Reviews are single-handedly one of the best tools you can use when looking for moving labor. We do it when looking for hotels, restaurants, and movies; so why not do it for the help you’re about to have handle your prized possessions? Here are a few things you should ask yourself when looking at reviews:
- Do any reviews illustrate the movers going above and beyond, bending over backwards for the customer to help alleviate the stress of moving? Are they dependable?
- Do two bad reviews outweigh 20 good reviews? Try taking bad reviews with a grain of salt and understand that we all have our off-days.
- Where can you find these reviews? Yelp.com and Angie’s List have become very popular. Some sites, like MovingHelp.com, offer customer reviews from customers who have ordered the services directly through the site. Even better, MovingHelp.com offers the moving help provider’s response to good and bad reviews, so you can get both sides of the story.
Lifting the stress off of your shoulders.
There are several ingredients to creating a smooth and stress-free move when using helpers with your move. Here are a few more points to consider when doing your search:
- Labor-only movers generally provide the muscle and knowledge to help execute a stress-free move; not all of them will have the materials necessary. You may need to provide the dollies, wraps, and pads.
- Communicate! Communicate! Communicate! Contact your helpers; it’s your move, not theirs. They may be busy helping others, like you, move. Also ask them questions; are they professional, courteous, and competent on what you need and of the moving process?
- Look for small things such as pictures if they’re available. You’d like to see who you’re about to hire and let into your home. Do they have a clean appearance and look presentable and trustworthy?
