I rented with U-Haul online at a Chesapeake, VA location. When I arrived at Chesapeake, I was told that they didn't have the trailer I rented and that I would need to pick up the trailer myself in Hampton instead of Chesapeake (a 50 minute drive away - both directions)! Additionally, I was told that I could not drop off the trailer at my original Chesapeake location without incurring a â€œdouble the one wayâ€ penalty. In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, â€œyou know how to take the reservation. You don't know got to hold the reservation.â€ This is singularly the most frustrating event for me in recent history. The ladies that did my contract were friendly and professional when I get outside to get my trailer the employee was sitting in a van watching me and never got out to help until one of the office ladies came out and I asked if anyone was working then she went and got him out of the van. When I returned the equipment there as a van under the tent that was being cleaned but left with door open and unattended after about 10 mins I went inside and asked if anyone was working she said she would get some one I went back to my truck about 5-8 mins later still no one and one of the office girls came out to tell us where to put it. Then suddenly the outside employee came out of no where. I also noticed a personal Honda Accord car in the garage area where hitches are installed up on ramps. Our pickup experience was a disaster. We got a call 2 days before our scheduled pickup informing us that our rental location was being moved. We asked that our 24/7 pickup status be retained. Apparently, it was never flagged as such in the first place by our original rental location, even though we were picking up after hours and specifically requested this service. We were assured by your rep that our new rental would be a 24/7 pickup and a truck was available at our new location. Upon arrival, we were unable to access the online pickup process because our rental had never been made a 24/7 pickup, in spite of being assured--twice!--that it was. After waiting for a phone rep on a Sunday morning, we were directed to a THIRD pickup location 20 minutes away. Once there, we had to wait in line for service. While your Sunday phone rep and third location were helpful and friendly, the pickup problems set our moving schedule back by hours. We were not impressed with Uhaul this time around. I received a call an hour before my truck reservation and was told that the truck I reserved was no longer available and I would have to go all the way to Norfolk to get a Uhual. I was furious but the rep was able to get me a 15' truck reserved for the same time I previously reserved it for. My experience will U-Haul was awful! I reserved a truck over a week in advance less than 10 miles from where I live. The morning before pick I got an email that my pick up had been changed to a location almost 2 hours away! Two states away! In the opposite direction of where I was moving. Everything went wrong, I booked 8 days in advance and at the pick up day, I was told that my is no 26â€˜ truck available, the system was overbooked. No truck was available. So I waited until a truck arrived and went into the store again to talk to the service and after a while I was able to get a 20â€˜ truck, I mean better than nothing because my crew was waiting. So instead of one drive we had to drive twice with this smaller truck. Quite bad experience and I will probably go with Budget the next timeDennis D.

The front counter staff didn't know what they were doing. The truck had a cracked window, the steering alignment was way off, there was something going on with the engine of the truck. When I returned the truck the guy greeted me nicely and said I was getting an 18 dollar and some change credit back and when I went back inside to get it the front counter lady said I was only getting 14 dollars and some change.Tyler G.

I had reserved a truck online for 9 am but it took 45 minutes to get through the line waiting for customers who had not made reservations. There were enough employees to have a dedicated line for people who had planned ahead rather than having to wait in a single line. The way this is run there is no benefit to ordering onlineBarry Z.

I received a call the day before my reservation that my pick-up location and time had changed by over 4 hours, which was not compatible for my moving timeline. After multiple calls to customer service, they were able to move me to the Hampton, VA location where I would be able to pick up a truck at 8am with the 24/7 truck share option. Due to employees not preparing the vehicle the evening before I had to wait on site and could not pick up my truck until 9:45am. The truck did not have a key in it so nothing could be done until the location open and I picked it up by hand. I'm usually not one to leave reviews but this experience was ridiculous and employees were not helpful.Catherine J.

When I made my reservation months before I ordered a 26 ft truck was told I would get called the day before to confirm location of pick up, wasn't contacted. I called to figure out where to go. Upon arrival I was given the wrong size vehicle resulting in me throwing out some of my stuff. As well as on pick up I had to immediately fill the entire truck because it was given to me on reserve fuel only 20 miles left in it. Also with the wrong size truck it also resulted in me having to tow an extra tow behind trailer, resulting in paying for a whole other item and extra days for that as well, luckily I had an extra vehicle to tow it with or I would have been out of luck.Nicholas M.

The mobile return process is a big pain. Standing there in the dark, having to take pictures in a poorly-lit environment, and answering question after question when all I want to do is go home, is aggravating and annoying. Dirty, gas was't full. the drivers side door seal fell off. I asked the lady at the counter and she told me to find 2 guys to help. They looked at me like i had 3 heads and offered NO help. Good staff, very helpful. The place was just dirty with garbage in the loading dock area and hallways. The storage unit itself was clean. Maybe I just arrived at the end of a long day. I recently rented a pickup truck from y'all the vehicle I was given was definitely in an accident on the driver side it has a broken driver side mirror which made it very difficult to change lanes and I'm pretty sure it's illegal to not have a driver side mirror. The check engine light and tire pressure monitor system was on when I picked up the vehicle. Vehicle also had a spare tire how are you supposed to tow or move anything with a spare tire and this affects the gas mileage and the steering was pulling terribly trying to drive on the interstate.Michael H.

After at least 2 hrs on hold over 3 phone calls I still didn't get any satisfaction in trying to modify my reservation, and in fact they canceled it completely without informing me of the fact!! Totally incompetent! After all this frustration I went into the colosseum Hampton depot and the young lady who helped me on 6/30/22 had me happy and organized in 10 minutes! I was very disappointed with the following items: - My online reservation was not found in the system, therefore, my reserved storage room wasn’t reserved, nor available. I had paid extra for a ground floor unit. Luckily Brandy, found me another ground unit. But, it was $30 extra a month because it was a slightly bigger unit. - The loading dock to the building where my unit was located was blocked by other U-Haul parked trucks and a personal vehicle. When I called the office to rectify the situation they said “someone will be by to move the trucks. We were at the facility unloading stuff into the storage unit for easily two hours and no one ever came to move the trucks. We were pressed for time, so we proceeded to load and unload from a further point instead. When I got to the facility I was told that I didn’t have a unit for my belongings. I was very upset I had a 20 ft truck a trailer and a SUV were was I supposed to put my stuff the young lady that was helping was very overwhelmed the Uhaul Place was extremely busy so another young lady came to help me. When I was making my reservation I told the lady that I needed the biggest unit because I told her what all I had, I ended up with a unit that I couldn’t fit all my belongings and ended up putting the rest of my belongings in my niece garage because by this time the office was closed so I had nowhere to put my stuff. When I turned in the Uhaul the next day I was told that I went over 14 miles well the reason for is because I had nowhere to put my belongings so I had to store them in her garage the plan was to leave the truck there at the Uhaul place needless to say I was not happy with my experience and also when we went to pick up the truck in North Carolina we were sent to the wrong address my experience was not at all the greatest. I gave an average because I was given false information on what I could fit in the storage I received. Although the staff was helpful, providing false information isn’t acceptable. I said I would recommend someone else to UHAUL because I did get a polite staff, but again, they should be truthful on what can actually fit into a storage. Worst customer service I've ever had. I wanted to confirm our reservation and was left on hold for an hour and a half. We made it halfway through North Carolina before getting answered. The girl on the phone was beyond rude and short about helping. We finally get there and she tells me that they're closed I ask how I can sign in online and she just repeats that they're closed and she can't help me at all. It was 7:03. I asked where I was gonna put a huge truck, moving from Florida to Virginia and she shrugged at me. The next day was no better trying to get checked in. Same girl. Same bad attitude. It's a two story storage facility with no ramps or elevators or hand trucks. The doors were wide open both times we were there, anyone could have walked in or out. My sister was able to cancel and close the account, whose name was not on the account at all, and nobody even called me to see if I wanted it closed- glad she wasn't somebody's vindictive ex or stalker!
