I am extremely unhappy with my U-Haul experience and consider this an escalation of a serious customer-service and policy concern. The biggest issue is the way U-Haul charges both mileage and fuel separately, along with additional fees, without making the full cost impact sufficiently clear upfront. I chose U-Haul specifically because it was supposed to be a cost-effective alternative to hiring movers. By the time all the extra charges were added, that advantage was largely gone. I raised these concerns multiple times, yet instead of addressing the substance of the complaint, I kept receiving calls essentially repeating the same policy back to me. That is not resolution. Adding another $30 fee on top of an already frustrating experience only made matters worse. The drop-off scheduling was also handled in a way that felt completely unreasonable and unscrupulous. Customers should not have to discover important conditions, costs, or inconvenient arrangements only after committing to the rental. Your policies may technically exist in the agreement, but policies that are not clearly and prominently communicated upfront will leave customers feeling misled and ripped off. If I had known the true final cost and the amount of additional hassle involved, I could simply have hired movers and saved myself the time, energy, and frustration. U-Haul seriously needs to reconsider how these charges and drop-off conditions are communicated. A “cheap rental” is not cheap when customers are hit with multiple extra charges afterward. Absolutely unacceptable experience.
Sandeep SBe clear with them that you’re still charging them $16 for coverage - I specifically opted out because my credit card has coverage for any rentals and I was still charged.
