I was told the cost would be a flat rate and a per mile rate. I was given no contract at this time. I went 2 miles down the road and onto the interstate highway when I looked at the gas gauge. It was on 1/4 tank. I drove 51 miles total and returned the truck. This was a small truck and they claimed I used 12 gallons (1/4 tank of gas). At most I only used 5 gallons. They charged me nearly $6 per gallon, at least $40 more than it should have been. In addition they charged me a $30 fee for bringing the truck back with less than 1/4 tank. I didn’t see any of these charges because I couldn’t get on line at their location, which they said my receipt and contract were on. This was the first time I ever rented a vehicle that didn’t have a full tank of gas and no contract. I thought U-Haul was a reputable company so at the time I wasn’t overly concerned until I went on line later that day.
