I don’t like how I was told when I ordered the U-Haul at corporate that I would have unlimited miles and that I would have the truck for 24 hours. I didn’t need the truck for 24 hours and also how I was charged for miles that wasn’t explained to me properly. I had put more gas in the truck than what it was given to me. I was told also since I was moving in town that I would receive have of my money back that didn’t happen either. Now U-Haul trying to charge me extra money I don’t damage anything so why the extra charge . I feel the people who works behind the desk needs proper training.

I wanted a small truck but I was given a huge truck that was bigger than I wanted and I wasn't given a choice. The truck interior stunk of weed/ smoking and was dirty/ grimy. I wiped it down myself. I was not aware of the mileage multiplier either, so having to move any distance was a huge spike on the price and that was extremely frustrating considering the advertising of $20 a day. I also returned the vehicle with more gas than it had when renting, but I recieved no repayment for that. Considering how expensive it is to return with less gas, I would have appreciated some repayment on that.

The equipment was not cleaned and was very old. Moreover, they charged me $20 more than the initial agreement saying that I returned the device without mobile checkout even though I took the equipment directly from the store. Not recommended.

I returned my rental prior to closing and the next morning when I received my bill they charged me $20 for after hours service even though it was returned prior to closing and was rented from 9am to 9pm. There was no mention of any after hour charges so this is just a blatant rip off. Just like giving you the vehicle with 1/4 tank of gas they can charge you extra if it isn't exactly where it was when you picked it up. Why not require it back on full?? No thanks, I will deal with a reputable company moving forward.

There is a return side that isn't very obvious. Pulled truck in on wrong side and had to turn it around with no much room to get to other side. Once I got there, a man came up and asked if I paid by card, I said yes. He said ok we will send you a receipt and took the keys. Next day I'm charged $53.00 for fuel. Why? I picked it up on E, and was told to return on E. Shady AF.

Better communication between on-site staff and customer service. I made a reservation at a specific location only to be notified the day before that the truck was unavailable at that location. The new location was 2 cities away and when mileage counts that definitely matters. Was rerouted to a closer uhaul location that should have worked out but they did not honor the arrangement made by the customer service agent, in a way that felt personal, and I ended up with a sour experience and a truck with a half full gas tank.

The equipment that I reserved nine days earlier was not available. I was downsized to a smaller truck the morning of my reservation. I was not notified ahead of time and found out when I showed up at the location. There were two people working and 15 people in line so I lost another 45 minutes waiting to get the vehicle that I didn’t even reserve in the first place.

I was accused of not bringing the truck back on full tank...good thing i took a timed stamped picture of the gas hand. I was also accused of driving the truck 72 miles when in fact i only drove it 39 miles. I was charged for both of these. I was refunded for the gas because of the picture but the mileage wasn't refunded because I didn't have a picture. Newport News Va. isn't big enough to drive 72 miles. I'm very upset as well as disappointed. U-Haul this is unacceptable!

Unfortunately, my experience was not a very pleasant one. I have challenges with my disability and was forced to my truck in Hampton, VA. What's worse that I was made of this last minute decision less than 24 prior to pickup. UHAUL needs to do better a job in "reasonable accommodations" for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Lastly, I was to receive a discount for inconvenience but didn't. Unacceptable!

First of all the scheduling in the app showed me an availability of the reserved truck closer to my location, so I booked this truck on the closest location possible. After a while I received a phone call the truck will only be available on another location of around 16 miles away from the location I chose. So I canceled the reservation. A little later I tried again and went through the same procedure again but I didn’t cancel the reservation because I needed the truck so I drove all the way to the location early in the morning and picked up an low to no fuel truck. The truck was in rough shape (especially the engine made some weird noise) but it did its job.

Car tow dolly was not properly fitted. My trip was one way move car tow dolly straps were all tangled up and I was unable to get the straps untangled at 3 am called roadside assistance at waited until 6 am for repair man to come out to untangled car tow dolly straps causing me to delay my trip across 3 states very disappointed I was quoted 1 price for all equipment and upon arrival in new state I was charged a different price than originally quoted which was higher than quoted unacceptable I feel like this was a bait and switch I do t think I will use Uhaul again for future moves

Make sure your associates are not on their cell phones taking care of personal business when they are on the clock. The associate who checked me in at the initial transaction seemed like she did not want to be at work, and seemed irritated when any questions were asked about rates and charges. Returning equipment back to UHAUL was a better experience and the associate even said "thank you and have a nice day". Much better than her counterpart who checked me out earlier that day.

Ruth helped me alot Ruth was excellent.. as for the store they send me a email said I was late on returning and that wasn't true. I got the haul at 730am and returned it at 10am same day. The girl told me to leave key in it and they would Check it in. They didn't do the next day I talked to Ruth and she called the store and they told her they forgot to check it in so they were doing it at 8am the next day. I was mad they trying to extra money from me and it was the people that worked there fault.

My opinion of the hampton location is muted not by the personel that I interacted with as the two young women I dealt with were very helpful. my suto transport was "buried" behind a broken unit that couldnt be moved so myself and the two young women rotated my unit auto transport so I could hook it up to my truck. This after a male worker came over to give us information on the broken equipment. Without any help yo resolve the situation.

The fuse for 12 VDC power outlet on truck dash was burned out. U-Haul agent Williamsburg (Rochambeau Ave) replaced it for me free when I picked up the auto transport there. Needed outlet working for my GPS unit.

We moved from San Diego, CA and were set to go to Deer Park location in Newport News, VA. That location was full so they called the location at 1023 W. Mercury Blvd to ask if they could accommodate us. That location agreed to and did help us. Great customer service!

It is noteworthy to mention the high level of efficiency demonstrated by the staff at this particular location, in cleanliness, etiquette, respect, knowledge of products, merchandise and services....it doesn't take much to do the right thing but customers, they they excel in doing the right thing....thank you for being of good integrity, and most definitely will recommend this location....

On 1130/2023 a incident was reported and not resolved with U haul claims. The facility is poorly ran and upkeeoing is horrible. The manager is very unprofessional .

I don't like being lied to as a paying customer, the only reason I rented a Uhaul truck is because of the price. They say that your credit card is not kept on file, it was charged anyway and this caused a red mark on my credit, I had mentioned that to the manager and he really didn't seem to care about that. The only person that helped me was the nice young lady that works there, the manager is more concerned about making money instead of helping out a customer. My biggest concern is that the security guard at the Walmart store in the parking lot across from the storage area was keeping an eye on things at the time of my wife and kids were loading the truck, no Uhaul employees checking in on the customers safety and well being while on the property. Then you have strange people walking up to you. Asking you for help and they're not part of your family, Anybody from the street can walk in there and not be stopped, No one closes the garage door they leave it open... Not a safe place to be and there is minimal light outside. If I could give you zero stars I would.

The storage isn't nothing as the picture of size to store items. You can't store normal size things like fig, sofa's and etc due to height not wide n length. Wouldn't recommend storing household items here

I give this location 5 stars and an excellent rating overall. My possessions were in storage from May 21, 2021 until December 1, 2023. I never worried about the security of my property. My only disappointment is that I was told on December 1st that I would receive a portion of my last payment, only to be told the next day that I would not receive any money back.

I could never get to my storage unit because cars were parked directly in front of door blocking any kind of access to get into it. Sometimes the cars would be parked there for days. I had to ask several times to get them to block off the area so no one would park there so I could get my stuff out

This storage unit is useful to me according to my needs. The only negative thing that I have to say is about the small stairs that you have to climb to get to the unit. Having to carry heavy furniture it’s hard. I know not much can be done, but an elevator or something would help!

Well for starters I called earlier that day to reserve a larger space and due to I guess the lack of employees I was sitting on hold for 20 mins and then was told someone would call me back to finish the reservation. No one called me back so when I called back the unit I originally was told I would get was given to someone else. So I now have this tiny unit where all my stuff barely fits but I got it in there. Then I was told to do the online check in so that a lock could be placed in my unit orior to move in … no lock was in the unit. The next day I called about the lock they placed the lock on my unit and then could not find the keys. Not a horrible experience but definitely could have been better. Not 100% unsatisfied but not 100% happy either. Nonetheless I have moved that’s the most important part

Everything was great, though I was expecting more room to turn around a trailer near the entrance I was required to use. With rental trucks taking up most of the area it was tight to back the trailer up to the loading dock. Not impossible but tight. Everything else was great! Having moving dollies was a life saver!!!

Building has leaks. All of the staff except for one girl is extremely rude and unhelpful. Units are very hard to find and staff is not willing to help. The check in/out system never works properly.

There wasn't lighting inside my actual unit, no rail for the stairs leading to my unit, and I often called got routed to the call center, messages were left and calls never returned. As a paying customer since 11/2019, never missed payment & paid ontime I found this to be rather disgusting.

Had my items in storage for about 3 years. I had no issues other than the two things I will mention. There were no lights inside of my storage unit, even during the day I couldn’t see without a flashlight. Additionally, the rent for my unit went up yearly.

I opted to rent a unit online for no-contact storage. Everything was fine with the unit itself, and the process was quick and easy, but there was no lock within the unit when I opened it. I was able to retrieve a key from the storefront/customer entrance area, but I would have liked to have been able to move in my things without this hiccup.

The hangar door access next to my 2nd level unit made for long hallway excursions. Pulling truck right next to an operational door would have rendered a much higher rating due to ease of unloading. They say the door has NOT operated in YEARS! No plan to fix it in near term either?

The lady who helped me was rude from the time of purchase. I let her know that I only needed the storage for a week or 2. She said she had to charge me for a month, fine. I was out of the storage on the 6th. Uhaul charged me on the 28th, I said I was unaware of this and I told the lady she never said anything about coming in to cancel, I was busy at work and frustrated and I was hung up on, the lady told the manager I was screaming and cussing I was not. I went up there the manager, in from of the customers is accusing me of cussing when I didn’t. Employees will say anything to make themselves right. The manager was rude. I just want my money refunded.

Clean, good space in the storages and options for different sizes. I had moved to a bigger unit during my use of this storage and it was super easy to do. Loved that I could sign up online and cancel online as well whenever I needed. The staff that helped me at different times during my use here was always friendly and helpful! Loved that the storages were mostly indoor because it felt safer to be there and just felt my stuff was safer there as well!

While the I was given the wrong vehicle, not given my storage when I came in, and told the wrong information, the gentleman that closed out my ticket fixed my order-he did not charge me the month I was told I wouldn’t be by the rep-the call center rep was wrong, he did what he could to help with the overages I sustained because I was given a smaller truck. OUTSTANDING! I did not get his name, but he made it right!

The measurements of the unit is not properly recorded. The height of the ceiling to the beams is barely 5'8". The measurements of door width and turn corners should be advised. I specifically asked both the phone representative and the location representative about the needed measurements, which they assured the facility can accommodate. This was untrue. I found a facility that can accommodate my belongings at a more reasonable fee.

Avoid this place!!!!! I noticed they had a rodent and leak problem after I paid the fees but before moving in all in the same day. After noticing the problem, I notified management and asked for a refund because of the condition of the units. They cancelled my units, kept my money and rented my unit to someone else all in the same day! Stay away from this place. There are definitely better, cleaner and cheaper options close by…inspect and check on other options first! lesson learned!!

I’m taken this to small claims court, they let me pay for a storage and gave it away. Your store clerk told me it’s like a doctor appointment if you don’t show up it’s cancelled. Not like a doctor appointment they don’t make u pay before your appointment . I paid and they gave my storage away and I had to keep my stuff in a truck over night till I got a storage. One recommendation to have more than one door for the back inside units to load and unload. Only one at a time can load or unload and some units are quite a ways from the overhead door so it takes a while. It's very crowded in the back lot with trucks, not much room to turn around and back to the door.

Good staff, very helpful. The place was just dirty with garbage in the loading dock area and hallways. The storage unit itself was clean. Maybe I just arrived at the end of a long day. Had a couple of technical glitches when they were arranging for my unit and the manager had to step in and help. She really knew what she was doing and was very helpful.

I was very disappointed with the following items: - My online reservation was not found in the system, therefore, my reserved storage room wasn’t reserved, nor available. I had paid extra for a ground floor unit. Luckily Brandy, found me another ground unit. But, it was $30 extra a month because it was a slightly bigger unit. - The loading dock to the building where my unit was located was blocked by other U-Haul parked trucks and a personal vehicle. When I called the office to rectify the situation they said “someone will be by to move the trucks. We were at the facility unloading stuff into the storage unit for easily two hours and no one ever came to move the trucks. We were pressed for time, so we proceeded to load and unload from a further point instead. I believe U-haul owes me some discount on the room I was forced to take instead.

So far it appears that my furniture is ok. I didn’t see any mice droppings, or smelled any mice urine, or saw any type of bugs on my furniture. I have noticed that some of my boxes appeared to have a small hole that appears as if something could have bitten through them; they weren’t that way when I packed them up. I didn’t open the boxes yet to make sure there were no mice droppings.

When I got to the facility I was told that I didn’t have a unit for my belongings. I was very upset I had a 20 ft truck a trailer and a SUV were was I supposed to put my stuff the young lady that was helping was very overwhelmed the Uhaul Place was extremely busy so another young lady came to help me. When I was making my reservation I told the lady that I needed the biggest unit because I told her what all I had, I ended up with a unit that I couldn’t fit all my belongings and ended up putting the rest of my belongings in my niece garage because by this time the office was closed so I had nowhere to put my stuff. When I turned in the Uhaul the next day I was told that I went over 14 miles well the reason for is because I had nowhere to put my belongings so I had to store them in her garage the plan was to leave the truck there at the Uhaul place needless to say I was not happy with my experience and also when we went to pick up the truck in North Carolina we were sent to the wrong address my experience was not at all the greatest. Hopefully I would here from someone.

You guys auctioned my stuff without talking to me..... I laided in the hospital fighting for my life after contracting covid..... So now im reaching out to anyone could at least get me my sentimental value stuff and no one is getting back to me....... I gave an average because I was given false information on what I could fit in the storage I received. Although the staff was helpful, providing false information isn’t acceptable. I said I would recommend someone else to UHAUL because I did get a polite staff, but again, they should be truthful on what can actually fit into a storage. If they are not sure then they should say so, and tell the customer that they recommend them to see it.

Worst customer service I've ever had. I wanted to confirm our reservation and was left on hold for an hour and a half. We made it halfway through North Carolina before getting answered. The girl on the phone was beyond rude and short about helping. We finally get there and she tells me that they're closed I ask how I can sign in online and she just repeats that they're closed and she can't help me at all. It was 7:03. I asked where I was gonna put a huge truck, moving from Florida to Virginia and she shrugged at me. The next day was no better trying to get checked in. Same girl. Same bad attitude. Whoever called later to resolve an issue was much better but we're never using uhaul to move again after this experience.

It's a two story storage facility with no ramps or elevators or hand trucks. The doors were wide open both times we were there, anyone could have walked in or out. My sister was able to cancel and close the account, whose name was not on the account at all, and nobody even called me to see if I wanted it closed- glad she wasn't somebody's vindictive ex or stalker! This facility is not at all secure.

The lock for my unit was jammed after one use in less than 24 hrs I informed an associate she told me To call pop a lock without even taking a look at the lock to see if it was a defective lock that I purchased from uhaul

The truck I was given brakes were bad and -Control are clicking and popppng -Break booster hissing and trouble breaking -breaks squishy and screeching -steering wheel shakes severe at 45mph and up

Uhaul has the absolute worst customer service I have ever dealt with, and this facility falls right in line with the poor standard set forth by uhaul. Whether it’s dealing with customer service over the phone, or directly with the facility, Uhaul maintains a consistent level of abysmal customer service. If I can help it, I will never use uhaul again for anything and I will make sure that any of my Sailors that work for me or with me, follow the same suit.

The reason I wouldn’t recommend is one months after I put my things in storage they raised the place. Not a year or six months but one month later. I need storage for six months and budget for six months. I know cost of living etc go up etc. but they only gave three week notice after one month. Not a 60 day notice but hey it’s thief business but budget with more in mind because will go up

I’d rented at this facility for 2 years in a row (during the summer). When COVID hit and students were forced to leave campus I again went to this facility. We live in California so I was forced to rent the unit for 14 consecutive months because Hampton did not reopen their campus. Month after month I asked the staff if there were any discounts being offered and was always told no. In light of all of the COVID restrictions and where we live it would have been nice if there was a discount offered.

We wound up going to another storage unit place because the halls for the storage facility were too small to where we coiling maneuver things into the unit. The doors for the 8x10 units are too small, large furniture would be difficult to fit in. The entrance into the units are fairly hidden so we had to ask where the entrance was. There was one or two helpful workers there that got us the help we needed. The ceiling on the inside looked like it was falling apart

I appreciated that the bathrooms were clean. The only issue I really had was that the angle and height of the entrance to the storage unit made it near impossible to move my couch in.

The questions above do not capture the difficulty that I had with this facility. The difficulty is in the design --- narrow labyrinthine hallways, low ceilings, limited access points, lack of carts, lack of elevators or lifts to the split-level units -- which made this facility very unwelcoming. I took one look at the unit and said "forget it." Went around the corner to Extra Space Storage and got something much more acceptable.

The questions you ask above are not adequate for an accurate assessment of this facility. Although the facility was mostly clean and the staff was helpful, the set up of the facility is very poor. The limited number of access points, the narrow passageways, The small doors, the low ceiling, and the stairs required to climb make this a very undesirable storage facility. I decided immediately to go find a different facility. I would not recommend this one to anyone.

My only issue is that when the doors were changed, the new keys for the lock weren't mailed right away. I waited almost a year and then had to send a friend who lives locally to pick them up for me. The lack of communication regarding the keys was not what should have happened. Every time I called, someone who tell me that the keys haven't been mailed because they were waiting on people's updated addresses so all the keys could be mailed at once. To me, that doesn't make any sense. They could have mailed in batches. Aside from that experience, the storage experience was good.

The cleanest facility I have ever used. Other storage places have the stale odor. This facility always smell fresh , and cleaned on a daily basis.
