Workers were fine, process was horrible. Rented a tow dolly and the tire went flat less than .5 miles from location. Called location, they sent to roadside service, roadside service was 2 hours out. Ended up costing me 400 more due to the delays I had already endured. Ended up taking back and swapping out. I can't wait 2 hours for a 5 minute fix. Would have fixed equipment myself, if I hadn't already paid for all the services that I needed, but weren't available in a timely manner. I have a tow dolly but decided to rent so I didnt have the expenses of any potential problems. Wasnt the case in this situation. Probably won't be using uhaul again.

Was not happy with the service. They charge for Gas when I shouldn’t have been charged. I brought it back the same way. It was given to me, and I have a picture of it because it was checked by one of the service people there that they said it was a full tank, and it was not a full tank.

The end cost is four times the advertised price. Buyer beware, refueling and opting out of the Safe Drive coverage would have saved $60. An additional $20 for return after hours was an additional unexpected fee. Unfortunately this trajectory is expected in today's climate... considering the circumstances. The employees did their *best. The convenience of same day services is appreciated. It takes due diligence and time to aquire reasonable alternative service providers is highly recommended.

The staff is very unprofessional, they were mad and had attitudes. The unit was not clean. There are people living in the storage units. It’s not a good area used needles were on the ground. SUGGESTIONS Carts with 4 sides PROS: All of the customer service on-site staff I interacted with have been kind and helpful. The storage halls were well-lit and very clean and I never felt unsafe while there. There were no live mice or bugs in my storage space. CONS: Unfortunately, there were dead mice in my storage space. I discovered rodent feces on the floor as well as in almost every bag of clothes and shoes and mice destroyed a piece of styrofoam and a sweater by eating it's way through the bottom half of it and used both things to set up their home inside one of my bags. Your maintenance person was kind enough to remove one of the dead mice for me but there was a skeleton of another inside the bag. Years ago I rented a van and although i had it for only a few hours I was fraudulently charged $320 for supposed "damage". I only knew about this by seeing the charge on my credit card statement after recovering from a virus weeks later. I visited the office for explanation and asked to see proof of the "damage". It took some digging but the customer service rep found photos that showed a sizeable scratch on the roof of the van that was clearly rusted. There was no possible way I could have been responsible for this damage and she agreed that based on the obvious rust it would be impossible. I asked to speak to the manager, Luis Cardona, but he was not on-site. I stopped by several times but he was never available. I ended up writing an email to him but never received any reply or reversal of charges. My credit card company could not dispute the charge because they said they had already paid it. I contacted UHaul corporate via email but never received any response. I reached out to the Boston Office of Attorney General and was referred to the Office of Consumer Affairs & Licensing. They sent out letters but eventually closed the case because they never received a response either. Due to health issues I did not pursue remedy further and could not physically move my belongings out. Now that I am able to walk again I decided to empty my unit and pursue the fraudulent charge matter once more. I emailed the current manager, Chris Francisco, and explained the situation. He responded that the vehicle was not inspected upon return so there was nothing he could do. I appealed to him that there was no way I could have damaged the roof in the few hours I had it to the point it rusted over the next day but received no further response. I am happy to provide you with a copy of all correspondence and photos of the "damage" and would appreciate a refund of the $320. This is the reason I am rating my experience as Below Average.

The staff was great but upon picking up my truck a homeless man was sleeping in the back cabin you can tell his bodily fluids was on the cabin floor which was just hosed off and given to us. Upon return it was after hours and going through online steps it wanted to charge me for gas when I returned it with more gas then was given.

I was told by the Augusta,GA office I could return the equipment that I bought as long as it wasn’t damaged. The employee told me she would give me her employee discount and didn’t. The price was supposed to have been $227.00 and it went up for $408.00 and I have a reservation for that price I have to call the regional office so they can give me the price I was told. The office on Boston, they were rude not friendly at all. They was playing rap music and it had swears in the song. They was very unprofessional. I will be getting my stuff out of that storage by the end of this week. I don’t care that the first month was free. I asked for a unit on a lower level due to my disability and he gave me a 3rd floor unit in the back. When I g did get to the storage unit that unit was already occupied they had to change me out to another unit. He told me he would send me a email with the new unit number never did. I had an overall bad experience with uhaul and uhaul storage. I would not recommend this company to and friends or family for their long distance or in town move.

This booking goes wrong. I returned the truck around 12 noon, it said I returned at 2:30pm and charge me for another day. The mileage is getting super ridiculous with a lot of bushit charge now. You are the motivation I'll save up for my semi truck

The U-Haul team at this location was joyful and helpful. It was a great experience from start to finish. The moment I pulled in the parking lot, I was greeted by a very helpful man (Lamar), who showed me where to park and was helpful loading my car with packing bins. When I returned a few days later to pick up a truck, return a truck and later return the rented bins and blankets I had - I was greeted with helpful and joyful staff members. On 4 separate visits, it was consistently great!

My confirmed delivery time was changed 3 times resulting in a 2 day delay. Also I had to pay laborers (movers) for the missed Saturday and Sunday delivery times. And on the day I received my box, it was delivered outside of the 4 hour delivery window. Meeting expectations and keeping promises should be your priority.

They sold us a lock that didn’t fit the truck. I got two emails that said a tow dolly was reserved for us and there was not one there. Super frustrating. So my elderly parents both had to drive across the country from Boston to Kansas City, instead odd bring able to take turns driving.

This is the second time dealing with this location and both experiences have been excellent. The only issue this time, which is reflected above in my answer to "Was the equipment clean and well maintained" is that there seemed to be oil in the trailer I rented. Getting oil on a motorcycle tire can be disastrous and potentially fatal so that was a bit of a concern for me. Other than that, the people at this location are great and I'll be back again for sure.

It is closed to me. Unfortunately, it is difficult to rent a Van directly. You have to make reservations on the phone or on the line. The only local option is to rent a truck. Associates should have options of renting existing vehicles. They did have several Vans available, but I couldn’t get one because I didn’t reserve it.

Our experience was exceptional overall, with one notable exception involving a young woman at the front desk. Her demeanor was consistently unprofessional, and she seemed disengaged from her responsibilities. At one point, when her colleague (a courteous gentleman) approached to inform her about an available 10-foot truck, she abruptly dismissed him, incorrectly stating that none of the 10-foot trucks could be rented for out-of-state use. Her behavior escalated when she walked away mid-conversation to use the bathroom, leaving us unattended for over 30 minutes. While the rest of the team provided excellent service, her rude and disrespectful attitude significantly impacted an otherwise positive experience.

A couple days before my reservation, I was contacted by a Uhaul rep about hauling a trailer from one location to another since my truck rental was 1-way only. I was offered extra miles, not a discount, by way of compensation. Given I wasn't planning on driving any additional miles beyond what was allotted at the reservation, I mostly did it to be nice. When I showed up, the staff was completely unprepared for my reservation and it took an additional 20 minutes to get the trailer ready, which caused a chain reaction of delays on my end. Everyone was friendly and had good rapport but this was a bit sloppy.

The packing movers I booked through U-Haul told me they put a lock on the container. The unpacking movers I booked through U-Haul told me there was a lock on the container and it cost $65 for U-Haul to remove. This feels like a scam. Either by U-Haul or one of the two companies who did the pack or unpack. I won’t recommend U-Haul to anyone until this is sorted.

Do NOT use the app. It is an utter waste of time. It took 30 min to go through all the steps while the employees sat around drinking their Dunkin and refusing to help because ‘once you start in the app there’s no way for them to check you out.’ THEN once approved you still have to go to the desk and have them check you in to get the key. Returning the vehicle was equally an arduous process as it took 1 min for each of the 7 photos you are required to take to upload.

Reservations can't be picked up outside of business hours. I had a reservation an hour before opening and according to the staff this happens all the time that they have people show up but cars can't be picked up. Returning the car was almost impossible as they filled up the entire return parking lot with trucks. It took some tight maneuvering to squeeze between trucks and posts to park the car legally.

Living in Roxbury I was always hesitant to use this location because it looked clustered and area has lots of traffic ( I ended up going as far as Saugus to a non climate control unit that emptied out in -5 degree weather). I WAS WRONG! I called ahead and spoke to Robert because I had received a free month as part of renting a U-haul while moving. He told me where to park and then when I had some issues with deciding on the size of my unit ( They have sample units you can see in the front office) He personally took me to the unit in the facility and showed me how to put in my code and use the elevators ( the regular and loading elevator) When I saw that unit wouldn't work for me, he showed me a few more! I chose my unit then easily got into the loading bay that is covered and had several carts ( and a donation bin) season accessible. The loading elevator was easy to use and I got my truck unloaded in 1/2 the time it took me to load! I really appreciated his help along with the rest of the team from the loading dock to the crew that cleaned my unit when I moved in. Thank you!

We have been loyal U-Haul customers for a long time, but this was by far the worst experience we’ve had. First, there was a hole in the ceiling of the truck’s cargo area, and because of the rainy weather, our furniture got completely soaked—something we didn’t realize until we arrived at our destination. Second, there was a U-Haul dolly left in the back, which took up space and made loading and unloading much more difficult. We had measured how much space we needed, and having the dolly there actually made us unable to place the items safely the way we had planned. Third, the cargo area’s lamp wasn’t working, making it extremely challenging to move our belongings in the evening. Overall, this experience was frustrating and disappointing.

Kanisha, Robert and Chris's really do an amazing job to help me get through my moving process. I rented many units up to 3 units at one time! and rented about 6-8 trucks from 25 footers to 10 footers in past 6 months. Despite loosing some items to rats and mold getting into unit they were very professional and helped me best way possible! They made a hiccup into a pleasant experience! They are truly top notch customer service! their facility is located in a tough location yet they keep a smile and provide great customer service!

The move out process is crazy. It was never explained when renting the storage. Had someone call to state that my storage was empty and basically had an argument with staff about the storage unit. The staff returned and said that she it was an error. She did not apologize for the inconvenience.

This store is (understandably) busy and slow, only a couple staff members are friendly and helpful. The U-Box staff are completely non-communicative and very slow to get to you. A U-box appointment means nothing there.

When I arrived in June. The original storage facility size that I had reserved was no longer available. This caused a tremendous amount of stress because I was unsure if all of my items would fit in the smaller sized storage facility. In addition, it was not on the ground floor as I read. Further, the ramps were very crowded. Cars were unable to get in there because some trucks were not respectfully parked. There was no U-Haul staff are monitoring this to assist with double parked individuals.

We encountered several problems with other moving/rental companies who did not show/confirm reservations. Finally realizing we needed to do the move ourselves we arrived at UHaul on Mass Ave in Boston. Seeing the clean and secure storage facility, we asked about options. The staff was kind, professional and extremely helpful. We got the entire job done in a few hours and the help from the staff literally brought me to tears. We were in a stressful position and they helped assure us that they could and would competently help with all our needs. Would rent and store with them again for sure.

We were told we would get a free storage unit with a one-way truck rental only to find out as we were moving our stuff into the unit which happened to be smaller than the one we booked staff second from the first lady we dealt with told us that a one-way truck rental was in regards to moving from one state to another. Which signs all over the U-Haul place say if you rent a truck or van one way you get one month free storage which to me we drove less than 2 miles up the road and packed our stuff and brought it to their storage unit, to me that would be a one-way rental cuz it's still just going to the U-Haul One Way truck rental packing up the truck at one place and and bringing it to another is completely separate than one wa. It was false advertising misrepresented and explained after the fact costing us nearly $200 more than we anticipated let alone all the sneaky hidden fees. Next time I'll ask a friend with a truck to help me move or go to a different rental place I'm not looking to keep having my stuff in storage with U-Haul on the long term. to enter the storage building, you have to type * Then your number code followed by the # sign, into two different code machines, followed by a third on the second floor unless you take the elevator, anther code machine to use the bathroom and In our case, our unit is up a flight of stairs with larger poles in the hallway (you have to watch your head) that extend through the top of the unit. I was unpleasantly surprised and the second set of people we worked with were a bit rude compared to the pleasant and polite woman who first helped us.

The manager Robert was incredible at 985 Massachusetts Avenue in Boston. Went above and beyond to make my experience enjoyable. Give him a raise and promotion, seriously. I called him when I got stuck in the freight elevator, even after business hours he not only helped me out of the elevator but he helped me move into my storage unit as well. 5 stars for Robert!

I am a consumer who utilize the storage facility, located at 985 Mass Ave. I have to be transparent, and this means being honest. I can honestly say that I have some very challenging experiences with some of the customer service representatives that work at this particular location. Some of the staff at this particular location needs to improve on their customer service skills, because it was below average. The only customer service rep that I would give high praise to, is Robert, because he went out of his way to make sure that my utilization of the storage unit was the best and he has the best customer service skills for that particular location. if I was to recommend a friend/family member to this location, I would actually ask them to seek out Robert, and that is the only person that I would have them to deal with. my experiences at this particular location started when I first went to rent this particular unit 176 back in either August or September 2023 and it was very discouraging, but I need to rent a storage unit. I even went across the street, so I can see what their rates were as well. in the beginning, I was very disappointed at the customer service representatives, until I interacted with Robert and again that was the only person I dealt with all of the time. Chris was OK, but he needs improvement as well.

I was charged for 3 gallons of gas for the uhaul van. I drove 12 miles and put in 2 gallons before returning yet you charged me for 3 gallons of gas.. The gas gauge is clearly higher than when I picked it up, I have photos. Unless your vans get 2 miles per gallon, this is outright fraud.

After 4 years as a tenant, U-haul wants a review from me. OK - but remember, U asked for it, & U sent me the link, as well. Fri., April 19, 2024 I can only speak of my experience with the U-haul franchise at 985 Mass. Ave., Boston, Ma. Other locations may be very different. The Mass. Ave. location often fails to answer their phone; you listen as it rings, you know it's during biz hrs, but no one picks up. The site manager is impossible to get ahold of, EVEN WHEN HE LEAVES URGENT VOICEMAIL MSSGS, ASKING YOU TO PHONE, A.S.A.P. I ended up calling the U-haul national HQ customer service phone, in order to leave him a message, because I never succeeded in reaching him, nor did he return my calls, when I left mssgs asking him, "what's the problem? - Why do you need to speak with me, so urgently?!" When I arrived to vacate my unit, my key went into the padlock (which, like everyone else, I was forced to purchase on site - U can't use your own padlock, but must buy one from them), BUT DIDN'T TURN - I couldn't open the padlock! This wasn't an overlock; I was current on my payments. It APPEARED to be the same padlock as the one I installed, in Jan. 2021 - but it obviously was not. It had always opened, before. I walked to the elevator, left the storage bldg, crossed the street to the office, & waited for someone at the cashiers / svc desks to be available. I told him it seemed U-haul REPLACED MY PADLOCK. He looked slightly shocked, & said, "No! - we would *never* do that, or if for some reason, we were forced to, we would notify you." Then I returned to my unit, & waited over 30 minutes for an employee to show up "to help". // When he did, he asked, "Are you the one who WANTED A KEY?" - Not, "are you the tenant who can't unlock their padlock?"... He followed that with, " YOU HAVE A BALANCE. DO YOU WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THAT?", in a mildly threatening tone. I replied, " It's due today. I am not in arrears." He phoned to confirm that - then pulled a small yellow bank envelope from his pocket, WITH MY UNIT # WRITTEN ON IT, & opened the padlock, before handing me the keys. JUST AS I SUSPECTED, U-haul had indeed swapped my padlock for another, & then their own personnel DENIED doing so. They had most definitely ***not*** sent me any notice - not via text, phone call, nor e-mail - to inform me that my property was no longer accessible. When I opened the door, I was stunned to see every horizontal surface, covered with mouse droppings, interspersed with urine stains, & many items were CHEWED. There was no food stored in my unit - the mice chewed paper, fabric, plastic - anything that wasn't metal. In some areas, mouse feces lay 1/4" deep. The bottom edge of every unit door is approx 1.5" above the concrete floor - to allow mice & cockroaches easy access to unit interiors. // Why not install door sweeps on both sides, to keep the pests OUT, rather than ineffectually scatter poisons & spray insecticides everywhere?! Thank God, I usually carry disposable gloves (I work as a PCA). I donned a pair before touching anything. Also, oddly, ALL 4 TIRES on my Urb-e bike trailer - a brand new, never used unit!, the bike battery was never installed; bike & trailer were moved from the loading dock on carts - WERE FLAT. I doubt it's a coincidence that the trailer was the last item packed, & sat in the doorway - right in front of whoever opened the unit door. I don't know if the inner tube caps were removed to deflate them, or if someone just stuck something sharp into each tire - but they were flat for so long, the tires have a permanently flat side, & cannot roll. They only scuff along, with considerable friction & resistance. I vacated my unit. I swept all the mouse droppings on the floor out the door, with bits of my things they'd chewed, into a corner - out of the traffic path. I photographed the empty, relatively clean unit, & the door, sans lock. I showed the photos to the clerk, & left. This stands as THE WORST EXPERIENCE I have ever had, at any self storage business, ever. I've rented units in 3 states, at franchises belonging to 5 different national chains - The U-haul at 985 Mass. Ave., Boston, is - in my experience - uniquely & abysmally BAD. Denying tenants who are current on rent access to their own property, violates their own lease clauses. REPLACING a tenant's padlock with a visually identical, different padlock, WITHOUT NOTICE OR CAUSE, is theft. The level of infestation is simply off the charts. The manager is impossible to reach. The employees often don't answer the landline phone - I once called multiple times, for 3 days straight, & never got anyone to pick up the receiver. (I've told the HQ telephone reps just how difficult it is, to reach on site personnel.) I was again forced to contact nat'l HQ, in order to speak to a U-haul rep.

There were legit drugs (pills and other paraphernalia) found in my unit when I visited it. I wanted to speak to someone about it but the line was so long in the main office I couldn’t wait and just swept it up and disposed of it myself. There were also many homeless people inside the storage facility, one appeared to be living in her unit (had music playing and a fan and was lounging with the door open).

I don’t appreciate the website conflicting with the store and having to fight and prove the point. Can't say enough good things about Robert. From when I walked in the door to when we got all of our things into the unit, he went above and beyond to helpful and supportive. We changed our plans and minds a lot, and Robert went with the flow. He was so friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible. We likely wouldn't have ended up putting our stuff in Uhaul storage and only rented the truck if it wasn't for Robert. We had planned to store things elsewhere, but he changed our minds! My experience with this UHaul location for storage was awful. I’ll review it in two parts…. A short top 10 list of complaints: 1. Lack of interest in customers and lack of care with customers’ belongings 2. Staff damaging belongings and lying 3. Upon finally accessing unit, discovery of unwrapped and damaged items, mystery boxes not packed by the customer 4. Lack of assistance during the pandemic, staff unresponsive to emails and calls, resulting in delayed access to storage unit, extensive damage to belongings 5. Terrible experience with the location’s staff - they are rude and unhelpful 6. Issues with water damage, unfulfilled requests to move items to UBox, disturbing observations of facility conditions 7. Double charging for storage units, lack of cooperation with moving helpers 8. Storage rent increased with no added value 9. Undue stress, expenses for cleaning supplies and replacements 10. False information from staff about obtaining keys, inconvenience, and delays A more detailed narrative of my poor experience: My experience with the Boston Mass Ave. UHaul location has been awful. It seems like this is the most disorganized, incompetent organization I have dealt with in many years. I will say from the start that I have also dealt with the Pittsburgh Liberty Ave. UHaul location and the experiences are like night and day: at the latter, the people are kind, willing to help, and offer useful input. The people at the Boston Mass Ave. location are rude, seem to want to go out of their way to be unhelpful and inconvenience customers, and seem to get pleasure out damaging customers' belongings and lying. I used a UHaul location for storage in 2019 because UHaul was national and I figured it would be easier to get stored items from one location to another easily. Man, was I wrong! I also thought that UHaul being known nationally meant I would get quality service and have my items SAFE. Man, was I wrong! Looking back to times prior to renting storage when I simply rented a van from this location to move within the Boston metro, I recall the experience was always unpleasant too. There was always a miserable half-hour or longer wait to get to the counter. Maybe I should've seen this as a red flag. I gave them too much benefit of the doubt that storage would be fine. When I put stuff in storage at this location in 2019, I didn't anticipate leaving it there as long as I did, but I didn't anticipate all of the travel challenges of the pandemic either. I had tried contacting UHaul for help with this multiple times -- to no avail. They were absolutely unwilling to help... ...and, really, it's rather convenient that by being unwilling to help, they got many, many more months of rent out of me. They only stood to make money out of me by being unhelpful! I should further add that my storage until rent cost was $135 when I signed up in 2019, and went up to $160 for no good reason -- with nothing of value added -- in the time since. It feels extremely shady and wrong. I tried contacting this UHaul location many times with no luck. Emails never get answered. Trying to use the chat on the website always sent me to some random national person, despite finding it on the website for the Boston location. The chat proved useless -- at best, I was given an email contact for the Boston location and that yielded no response. Although it's the last thing I want to do, I even tried calling the phone number on the Boston location -- and every time, I either got no answer or an automated (not local) system with no means of helping me. (This said, throughout my time this month visiting the location physically to retrieve items, people at the counter constantly were on the phone ignoring people physically waiting and doing an extremely poor job of customer service for folks physically there too. It seems very odd that this happened, despite my unanswered call attempts.) It gets better, or way worse! In January of 2023, I got a text telling me there was potential water damage and respond "1" if I would come in that day or the next or "2" to have them inventory and document. I talked to someone on the phone that day. I had asked that my items be put in a UBox instead of another unit -- a seemingly reasonable thing to ask -- and was told they'd get back to me. They never did. A few weeks later, on February 8 in the 9 a.m. hour, I called the 617 number listed for the location, but got some not-local line, and eventually, after many hoops, talked to someone at this location... .... --- Your form disallows me from pasting my full comments here. The move in procedure was a hassle, and not enough employees and the homeless people around the area are very unnerving to see walking around the facility. However my experience would have been miserable if there wasn’t the most enjoyable employee working the counter. I don’t remember his name, but I’ve interacted with him three times since choosing to use uhaul and that man made me recommend this facility. African American gentleman, nose ring I think, dancing to Beyoncé when I first walked in to the store. Give that man a raise, he deserves it.

I reserved a 5x12 storage unit, but the staff told me there were none of that size available when I checked in. I was forced to get a 10x10 and pay double what I originally booked. Corporate leads you to believe you will have a unit held for you, but if you continue to use a first come first served basis the reservation system is nothing but a meaningless lie. I will never use U-Haul storage again because making plans to move requires certainty and reliable partners at every step. U-Haul storage cannot be relied on for anything.

The entire experience at this facility was terrible!! Access is limited even with the passcode. There is no place to park close to the facility other than a garage area which is usually closed or full. On the busy college move in days there were not even dollies or carts available. There are steps to access the facility and then you are supposed to carry your stuff down the street. The office staff is not helpful. Lock wasn’t even at the unit as promised at the beginning of the rental. During the rental I received a text to contact the facility and it took a week of calls to eventually find out the text was a mistake after being told that there was most likely damage in my unit. We rented a box truck from U-Haul only because we had made arrangements to return it to this location where we had the storage unit and then upon arrival we were turned away because they were full and had to drive an extra 40 minutes each way. I would definitely never use this location again.

On the same day that I rented the storage I rented a van as well. To my surprise, upon receiving the truck it was evident that it had not been cleaned and the gas tank was on red at less than a quarter. I took pictures of my dashboard and put gas on it. When I returned the truck after using 9 miles the tank was marking quarter and a half full. I explained this to the attendant who told me that at most they could refund up to $20 for the extra gas. When I looked at my account I had been charged $710.04 by U-Haul instead of getting a credit. I brought this to the attention of one of the employees who sent me over to Brenda which once again I explained the entire situation and she also mentioned that at most it could get reimbursed $20. After struggling with the system for another 30 minutes she couldn’t refund my account for the $710.04 wrongfully charged so she called Jorge White. After another 15 minutes or so I received a paper with an estimate use of the van of 10 miles( more than the actual use) and paperwork to what looked like a refund and was told that my money will be credit in 3 to 5 days. When calling my bank 3 days after to find out about the progress of this transaction I realized that after the so called credit, the transaction was makes as denied by Jorge and my money charged by mistake wouldn’t be credit back to my account. This situation all together is infuriating as I now have payments link to my account that will bounce and incur in additional burdens due to mistakes made by careless staff members at this location.

When I went to move out of the storage, my things were practically all covered in mouse poop and two of my bags' content was almost entirely eaten by mice. It looked terrible and took me a lot of time to deep clean/disinfect. Other than that, I just recently found out that the company does not do the prorate system of rent pricing, which is absurd, since the minute after you move out of your unit (in my case, well before my "rent-month" was up), they can rent it to another person.

The staff at the loading bay were great. The access was cut off at 8:00pm which is very difficult when you have to move in or out in a short period of time. The unit had rat feces and urine all in it and things in the unit were damaged. After I vacated and removed my lock, I called U-Haul and let them know I was out. The next day I received a phone call from the local unit telling me I need to come remove my lock. This was impossible because I took my lock with me. Not sure who put a new lock on the unit. The person I spoke with said she would talk to the manager to see what to do. I did everything I was supposed to do.I’m not sure how to get a lock off a door that isn’t mine especially while I’m 1000 miles away.

The U-Haul location at 985 Mass Ave is, without a doubt, the epitome of terrible customer service. The staff's blatant rudeness, interminable wait times, and their overall sluggishness in performing even the most fundamental tasks culminate in an utterly exasperating experience. It is also glaringly evident that there is a significant lapse in their bookkeeping and communication amongst employees seems to be non-existent. Upon my initial move-in, I was not provided with a lock because, unbelievably, I was informed that the facility had “run out.” Consequently, I was compelled to purchase my own lock, despite being previously assured that a lock would be provided free of charge. Naturally, I anticipated reimbursement for this unexpected expense, but, predictably, that never transpired. To add insult to injury, at some point during the rental period, U-Haul took it upon themselves to affix one of those disc locks on my unit - presumably the lock that should have been provided to me initially - without any forewarning. This unforeseen development resulted in me retaining the U-Haul rental truck beyond the reserved time on my move-out day, as I was obliged to endure a 45-minute queue just to inquire about the reason for the unsolicited lock on my unit. It is imperative for U-Haul to rectify these egregious issues posthaste. A business's lifeblood is its customers, and subjecting them to such abysmal service is not only detrimental to its reputation but also its long-term viability. Customers entrust U-Haul with their possessions, often during stressful life events such as relocating, and the least that can be expected is a modicum of professionalism and competence. No customer should be burdened with the additional stress of ineptitude, miscommunication, and a flagrant disregard for their time and money. It is incumbent upon U-Haul to institute comprehensive reforms to its operations and staff training at the 985 Mass Ave location to ensure that no other customer endures such a lamentable ordeal.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. We arrived at about 8:15 and were the only customers until 9:30. There were plenty of carts and the elevator was available when we needed it. One caution, I rented a unit with a “pole” in it. It turned out that the pole was actually a large concrete column in the corner which took away a lot of space. I asked for a different unit, and got one that was a little larger and $10/mo more. Also, the unit I reserved (the one with the column) was up a flight of stairs.

My main complaint would be the totally inefficient and inconvient process customers have to go through to schedule a vehicle--waaay to dependent on the internet i.e. customers must have online access to utilize Uhaul services. I reserved a unit ahead of time and no units of my requested size were available by the time I arrived at 3pm. Then the unit I was given had a large pillar in it so I could not actually put all of my things in it and had to throw out my $800 couch because I was with movers and they had another appointment to get to. I found the staff at U-Haul Moving & Storage At Mass Ave Boston to be incredible. Being the end of the month and also the end of the school year, it was relatively busy but when staff had a free moment they kept checking in with us and making sure we were being helped by someone even while we were waiting in line and working on the online login. The staff over in the storage facility definitely went above and beyond! One person noticed that we were struggling with getting one of my larger pieces of furniture through the doors, and so he showed us how to position it on the dollies so it would fit. Another worker helped us with the service elevator while we were balancing the mattress, just because he was walking by and saw us. I found using the online site absolutely terrible, it was slow and frequently didn't work. It was unclear when you were supposed to fill different parts of information out. The staff definitely were working hard to compensate for this, and should be commended, but hopefully the site is updated soon so they don't have to be doing double duty!

I reserved a 12ft unit online in February. I received a confirmation text of this reservation the day before. I drove 15 hours from Tennessee, and hired movers to meet me at the storage facility, only to show up in Boston and find out that there were no 12ft units available. I was told that despite having a reservation, these units are given out on a first come first serve basis. This system was not explained clearly to me, and I was expecting to have a guaranteed space to store my belongings after a long trip. The staff was trying to be helpful, and they were able to find me a bigger unit available. However, this experience added unnecessary stress to my move and is not costing me an extra $85 a month for a mistake that was not my fault! I should not be forced to pay more for a unit because U-Haul made a mistake and ran out of the units I reserved. If storage units are given out first come first serve, there should not be a reservation feature on the website. To not honor reservations taken is incredibly poor customer service. The staff were also clearly frustrated by this corporate policy, as it creates unnecessary frustration towards them. If U-Haul cares about its customers and its employees, it cannot continue this policy. I will not be renting a storage unit from U-Haul again.

I preferred in person check in as it was my first time using U-hail storage and wasn’t able to communicate with someone at the location in advance. I called the phone number indicated on U-haul website but was transferred to customer service, was advised the customer service agent sent a message to call me back. I did it twice but no retuning calls. So I wanted to see someone live when checking in but I received a text sounding I was forced to online check in. It also indicated free lock if done online check in but when I saw the storage, there was no lock found, so I needed to go across the street to see someone after all. The location’s loading dock seems working in tandem and a van parked in front of mine. This made me stuck in the car. Fortunately the driver who parked next to me stopped their loading and helped me moving his van and made a way out for me. I have been stuck there for 20 minutes after I finished. It seems many other users already knew the consequences and they parked their vehicles in the street. Unless U-haul keeps someone to watch the thing may happen often. I may use the U-haul storage but at least wouldn’t recommend the location.

The online process sucks. After 3 tries I decided to go inside the facility on to be told to scan the barcode and do it online. There we people available to help but no one wanted to work and I was told to scan and book online so after a lengthy 25 minutes Inwas finally abke to book the storage unit. Not a fantastic setup, but it got the job done. We needed storage for a 1.5 months and I was returning a one-way trailer, which meant the first month was free. They made an error and I was charged for the first month, and a late fee since I refused to pay for the first month. I then decided to pay the first month with the late fee and then ask the fee back and not pay the second month since U-Haul immediately began sending threatening messages about auctioning off my stuff. It was impossible to get a hold of the actual people at this location, to solve this problem over the phone, and it was busy when I arrived to solve it in person--it also took them a good hour to understand the issue and resolve it once I was able to explain it in person. The location itself is fine though entrance to the warehouse where we had our unit was a bit quirky and my wife and I (despite having a PhD) just couldn't work out how to properly use the swipe card to get in; I'm sure that's on us, but still, could perhaps have been made a little more clear?

A pipe burst in the facility and no one communicated that problem while renting the unit. I went to see the unit ahead of time to find the whole building , all floors flooded, wet, musty smelling. I jumped the line to ask if I could close out online and was told “no, go get picture of empty storage container and stand in line.” However, I got pictires and uploaded to my account online and closed out without eta ding online.

The staff at this site are excellent. They work very hard and are very knowledgeable about their services and products. Renting a truck back in May was a positive experience. Although the truck I was first assigned would not start, I was quickly provided with a new one. The truck and renting the truck experience was positive. Unfortunately, the storage unit that was rented was met with some challenges. When loading our son's items into the unit, I have to be honest - we felt very unsafe in the facility. There were multiple men that appeared homeless and under the influence walking around the inside and deck area of the facility. One of the men, that appeared under the influence, was trying to sell items to my son and his behavior was very alarming. It just felt unsafe. When returning a few months later, I was shocked to see mouse traps almost every few inches throughout the entire facility. Upon emptying our unit yesterday, we found mouse droppings all over our son's personal items. We had to discard many items, as a result.

The website needs to be clearer that you need to go check into the unit the first date of the reservation or you forfeit the reservation. I could not use the storage at Mass Ave, because the storage that I reserved was not available (previous customer was not moved out). I was chaotic because I had to put my moving stuff on the day. It was extremely nervous to find another storage unit. Finally I was able to find a storage unit 20 miles away, causing extra pay for truck, uber, and storage. Furthermore, they were still charging me the rent fee and late fee for the storage that I have not used. To fix this issue, I have called you several time, but it took 20 days fix. I'm very unsatisfied the overall service.

Terrible storage experience. When I went to open my unit, the key to my lock didn’t work. I had to go buy bolt cutters. When I got into the unit I found mouse poop everywhere and also mouse traps. There were no mouse traps when I originally moved my stuff into the unit. This means that the uhaul staff cut my original lock off, laid traps, then replaced it with a different lock without telling me. I went to the office and the staff confirmed this. I will never use uhaul again.

My daughter did not receive the best assistance when trying to move in. The clerk was more worried about ordering her Chipotle than assisting…so much so my daughter didn’t know she was to receive an access card and was never given any real direction. Rental #837054-00136379Unit #: C2034 U-Haul Storage At Mass Ave Boston U-Haul was not able to lease us the storage unit to us and cancelled our reservation at the counter (U-Haul Storage At Mass Ave Boston) on June 29, 2022. This made us to find another storage unit on the date of our moving. It was disaster. I reserved the u-haul storage unit and confirmed. However, I found that the unit was full by other people's stuff. I asked another unit available, but the representative at the counter said there is no available space and refund our payment. They said it was not their fault. Was it our fault? I made reservation, but they ignored our reservation. I never understand and actually shocked about how U-haul is unprofessional. Not reliable, cannot trust the system. Furthermore, they still charged me as well as a late fee without providing a service. Your are totally unprofessional. You need fix your online reservation system. I spend extra $300 dollars for finding and driving another unit for storage due to your fault.

My customer service representative that booked my storage unit wasn't helpful at all!! He never offered to scan my license until after 40 minutes of me telling him I couldn't take a picture of my license with my phone. He didn't offer me a card key to get in facility which I didn't know I needed. He rudely took on another customer while he wasn't finished with me and me not knowing what else to do besides tell him to please finish with me first because I was not done yet and had been there for a very long time without help.

The storage was great. My locker was in a perfect location. The tall gentleman who spoke little to no English / Maybe Dominican was the ABSOLUTE BEST AND KINDEST SOUL . He was always super friendly and kind. He would always come by my storage unit and say hello. The lines inside made it unbearable to rely on. The garage door to get to the unit was a nightmare and always being blocked by actual UHAUL trucks made no sense . The Staff at front desk did not seem appreciated by upper management, as their motivation to be friendly wavered and depended on who was working. From my own experience in their position they need support and to be treated better because it show that they are clearly not. The turn over seems low but their energy seems even lower which implies a level on distain for their employer. That someone isn’t listening to them not appreciating their efforts in showing up. The pandemic has changed our work culture and perhaps because UHaul is doing well they maybe getting greedy and forgetting to support their staff because it shows.

Set up my unit, was told they would change the lock in about a week to a circle lock and they would put the key in the managers office. Came back to get my things out a month or so later and they had lost the key. Some of the staff was very nice, but the assistant manager was not. He kicked us out for asking if we could break the block or if there was anything we could do.

So they people that work there were not helpful like 6 employees were just laying around literally all over the store. On their phones. They all stared as I walked in no one wanted to help me. One young woman reluctantly got up and gave me the card needed. At that point she sat back down and finished her phone conversation. Once I found the unit I had no idea there were stairs to use I then walked back over. She said it’s stairs in there asked one of the other associates to assist and they completely ignored me. I personally don’t take the time to do these type of surveys but the customer service aspect was HORRENDOUS to say the least

When I went in to empty my storage I noticed that the pipes have been leaking on to my stuff and more than five items had been damaged with mold. Yet I paid for the extra amount for cleaning expenses. So I'm not that happy . Their was no top to my storage so all the pipes could leak in.

The unit was great. Very secure and dry, no water, moisture or rodent damage to anything in there despite it being in there for 1.5 years untouched. Had some very valuable art in there and zero issues. Access is easy, lots of carts and space. Rented a truck there as well, had some hickups with the pick up but the truck was clean and very well maintained, drop off in Canada very easy and no extra charges.

The storage unit facility on Mass. Ave in Boston was great. So clean and well lighted. Private enclosed garage for unloading. Lots of carry carts for moving stuff to and from your vehicle to your unit. Staff worked fast to get us checked in and helped us drop off our rental trailer. Was a positive experience. .

The people in the showroom are immature and are undertrained. I always felt uncomfortable being on property mainly by uhual employees following me. I would attempt to ask for help and it was either "pass-the-buck" or the staff didnt speak english. I had an issues with getting access during hours of operation and was threatened with staff calling the cops if i didnt leave them alone. Yet i needed help. Overall very unprofessional and misinformed to later find out, after designated a locker, my storage required climbing a ladder. A huge nightmare including staff and even the "manager" who threatened me bc i requested help.

The only thing I suggest is that there is a little bit more order when u need to park the truck to load your storage…. It was a bit confusing, there was cars parked where the trucks need to park and there was a gate the was not able to be used … a little hectic. There should be there n employee there to make things smoother. Customer service was Great ! Thank you !

The manager was extremely helpful in arranging a second unit for us when needed during move in. I do with the facility's hours were a bit later, as it can be tough to get off work, go get my car, and then get to the U-haul facility to move stuff out before 7pm.

I won’t say she wasn’t helpful. What I will say is this. When someone is renting or trying to figure out if there at the right place or nit. I just feel and I say I feel it should be more compassionate with people. I may have been at the wrong place I tried to explain to her why would I drop the truck of some place differently if I need storage. She did help me and I think it’s because it looks like she was Theo nay one trying to deal with all the customer she had. But over all she was great she did make sure I got storage so I’m happy and yes I would recommend mass Ave. get her some help.

Waited in line for an hour only to receive the news that the key put on my storage unit by uhaul was lost and could not be cut because only one person had the ability to do so. Had to extend a rental car and had no access to any of my furniture and college supplies. Terrible experience and would not recommend. Issue was “resolved” after uhaul credited the amount of the bribery we had to pay a worker to cut the lock on the unit back to me.

First of all, it is not clear where to check in for storage facilities. We were yelled at by several employees when we drove onto the uhaul Lot. We asked for assistance on where to park and where to go and no one would help. We circled the block a couple times and after parking on the street, found our way back to the office, right where we had been told we couldn’t park! We had a confirmed reservation for a storage unit, but we were told they were all sold out and our reservation meant nothing. What a joke. Horrible experience! Unprofessional rude staff. We read the Yelp reviews and added our poor rating to the dozens of other. We should have read them ahead of time

Really poor customer service. The two girls were friendly and nice but the gentleman was rude and wasn’t helpful. May be I am Asian with brown skin. That’s what he made me feel like. When I went to ask something about the rental, he wanted me to go back to end of line and wait 30 minutes. I didn't like the way manger handle the situation. We gave him proof that we have a month free: to reimburse the money back to the account. He just walked around and keep saying I'll get to it, and said ooh we don't have unit for free here. We spoke to customer service and they did say we can get our refund, they even asked us to speak to the manager there. It turns out it's the same manager giving us hard time. The young lady was not helpful. I stay there literally for an hour waiting for the manager to get back to me. He still didn't get to it. So this is my last time coming to this U-Haul place. I'll take my business somewhere else. The young lady also keep repeating that I should go to Brockton where I picked up the truck to have them given me a unit in Brockton not there unit.

My overall experience was good until the apparent mouse infestation. Everything was covered with mouse droppings, and I basically threw everything away. I was very surprised by that, because it was otherwise fine. It makes it hard to say yes to recommendation. But I probably would with a word of caution.

The unit I reserved did not exist. This has shown me that U-Haul is a crooked and disorganized company. Associates Diana and Shania were very helpful; they saved the day. Jim made the entire process more difficult, for both me as a customer and for the other employees. Jim did not not show me where my unit was, and it took me 20 minutes to find it, and it was still locked when I found it. When I finally had someone (Shania) come unlock it, it was too small. Diana and Shania went above and beyond, got me a unit that worked, showed me how to use the elevator, gave me a month free, and just in general were sympathetic and down to earth. They deserve a pay increase and a huge shout out.

I rented a storage unit on 6/15/21 and reserved a 15' footer truck for 6/16/21 today 6/16/21 the service was horrible. the first truck #DC1211K) sputtered and jerked also the check light was on!!!!!! I turned right around brought it back complained to MR. Jimmy Diamond, told me that was normal for that year and model. I expressed how uncomfortable I was to drive a truck with a check engine light on and ask for another truck. I was told to wait in line to exchange the truck. The second truck#DC3522G) also had a check engine light on and a padlock on the back sliding door I returned that truck and left there with no truck and very disappointed

Not a hit on the store direct, nearly as much as Uhual as a coorperation. there seems to be a repetetive issue with coorperate not communicating with any of the store branches when you call them. And when i say this, I mean they book things with 0% contact to make sure the store has whatever it is your looking for. This strings deeper than one interaction with them, My company uses them all the time, and we have ultimately decided to never use them again because of the lack of communication between branches. If I had to guess, Id say out of 20 times we use uhaul, about 9 of those times goes negative in some way shape or form, mostly due to communication.. If you just have a personal move though, they should be fine

This facility always has homeless people hanging out. They wait for the bathroom even with the card access reader required. The stay in the office make you feel like you are not there. You wait in line forever. When you approach the counter you are not greeted.,the last time I was there, when an employee freed up at the counter, I walked over and stared at her while she was doing something. The day I cleared out my unit I waited in line for a long time and left because the wait was so long. I left and called and was in the queue for over 25 minutes! Overall, the experience there over the past seven years has been negative. I dreaded going there.

Our service with Jasmine was excellent. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful to us. However, after I came back a few hours after checking in to store some boxes there was an awful smell coming from a storage until down the hall from me. I believe it was #3501. There were fruit flies everywhere and the gentleman I saw opening that storage until was carry dirty empty bottles which the cause of the fruit flies. He was also yelling. I noticed the later hours inside the storage until is not safe. There’s a lot of random people inside the storage unload area that were not unloading. I felt unsafe when I was there. There was a ceiling leak outside of our unit , C1092, making a puddle of water outside of our unit. I would really like this to be taken care of quickly, so no water gets into our storage unit! Thanks =)

Hi, The girl at the desk was untrained and very stressed out. We have a room already. We wanted an empty room right across from ours. It has a green tag and a green lock. The girl insisted that a green lock meant the room was not available. I have been coming here for years. Red tag + second lock = renter behind on rent, no tag + 1 lock = normal room already rented, green tag + green lock = room available to rent. She refused to rent to us. She kept asking what size room we wanted. We said the exact room number. She kept saying it was not available. I said look me up on the computer. She insisted that a second room was a separate account. (What business would do that?) She gave me a form to fill out. It was in Spanish. She was very agitated and would not make eye contact. I said a green lock means it is available. She said a green lock means there is a problem with the room. The girl at the other station said she could help us. She looked me up in the computer and we completed the rental for the exact room I wanted with no problem. The first girl was standing on her chair yelling at people to get back in line. The poor girl needs training in the details of U-Haul rentals, and in customer relations. Had I net persisted, you would have lost a rental. Later, I was sent a PDF copy of my contract. My Norton virus scanner found a malicious script in the PDF. Your computer is infected.

Had two speakers stolen after leaving them unattended (my fault) for 5 min. The manager states that the vid camera wasn’t working and that there weren't any people/cars around and didn’t see anything. This statement leads me to believe he didn’t bother checking the video, because the place was super crowded (mass exodus from Boston), lots of people and cars were in and out while we were there. He didn’t bother to check. (It was too busy for him to check right after it happened - too many people at the counter. He wasn’t able to check the video when I asked him about it right after it happened. They were SLAMMED with people trying to store there stuff and get out of Boston (Covid). So when I followed up with pictures of the exact location the speakers weee stolen, etc. he said there was no one around that day and the cameras didn’t show anyone.) Leaving the cameras out at the corner right by my storage unit when they fell off the cart wa MY FAULT. Just wish I would have received more help from the manager.

While my storage unit was well secured and the staff was super helpful, when I emptied out my unit I found that mice had been living in it. I found mice fecal matter all around and on/in my stuff, and several of my books were damaged because mice got into my boxes and chewed on them. I did not have any food in my storage unit. I thought U-Haul and future customers may want to know this.

The Manager Ed was pleasant, accommodating and a true believer in customer satisfaction! I felt valued s a consumer as a result of the way in which I was treated by Ed the manager. That is the example I believe he models for his employees. I received excellent service at the register, and after needing some questions and by the manager the other team member cleaned the van I was renting with a smile. To be fair, the office was overcrowded so the employees were overwhelmed. That said, I was given completely unclear directions. I was told that I would not be able to access my locker past 5pm, while the web and subsequent emails have all claimed 24 hour access as a feature of the storage. Being forced out at 5pm meant I was unable to complete my unload and friends and loved ones who had offered to help me were badly inconvenienced. Your system was down. The customer service person behind the desk (young man with a beard) took forever to register us. The young lady working next to him served 2 or 3 groups of customers in the time it took him to serve us. We waited 25-30 minutes to check out a rental van and register for a storage space. The attendant did not speak clearly and proceeded to eat his breakfast in front of us while we patiently waited for him to finish. Then after waiting that long, he hand wrote some scribbled info on a half sheet of paper, tore it off and handed it to use so we could be on our way. Not once did he apologize for the lengthy delay or thank us for our business. My experience with previous rentals at other locations has been fine. This was incredibly poor. I have a future rental booked at this location already that I am thinking of canceling.

The staff here is awful and one time an employee was screaming at me to move my car even though it was parked legit. The manager of the facility didn’t seem to care what I went to him about the issue, neither did the regional manager. They charged the wrong CC one also and were unable to process a refund and simply put on the right CC, Otherwise the staff here is alway pretty rude and unhelpful.... I’d go out of my way to tell people to avoid this place...

So, this was a convenient option for quick storage. The manager specifically does a great job taking care of lots of people and employees, not all of whom are always in great moods. A few things I would improve include time from intake to checkout (it took a while), and the fact that my storage unit didn't have a full wall up to the ceiling, so an enterprising thief could get in and out without needing to pick a lock.
