I had reservations at another U haul location closer to my home, but when I arrived I was told that they didn't have keys for the van that I had reservations for. And was sent to the Michigan Road location which was totally out of the way but I had no other choice. they was very nice. I wouldn't recommend the one on 29th and Lafayette road to no one.
Phillip MAntonio is amazing! When we came in there was a huge line, he came in and cleared it in no time! Super helpful and gets stuff done.

Jim SWhen I picked up the truck, I was told the gas gauge was at 3/4 full, but it was substantially less than that (between 1/2 and 5/8). In a large gas tank, that made a significant difference as I had to put in extra fuel to get to 3/4 full. The attendants were ok, but unfriendly.
Devin MThe gentleman who helped me (Antonio, I believe) was fantastic. He help hook up the trailer and when he was looking he noticed a tire with a defect. He hustled to quickly get the tire changed out and make my trip safer. Equipment was in good shape and overall a good experience with this location.

When we unloaded in a couple of hours all boxed in both sides of the attic area were very wet. Rain water was dripping in from the the van top. Luckily nothing was significantly damaged.

ROBIN MThe workers there are quite a bit rude, the lot is always full of returns and customers. When I parked, one of the employees was adamant that I move my car even though there was nowhere to go, it was not blocking anything and said it with a rather threating tone. This type of behavior is unacceptable and while I get that it is a crowded location, the people there should be a bit more trained in customer relations and not be as unfriendly as they currently are. I needed to extend the rental and that was handled very rudely and argumentatively. With the same trailers on the lot, what is the logic I come back in to swap for the exact same trailer? After 5 minutes of back and forth she agreed to extend without me coming in. When I dropped off the trailer early the next morning, there were 4 identical trailers lined up there as well. The logic that this trailer was promised or rented out doesn't hold water when those trailers on the lot hadn't moved and the discussion was a moot point. Not very happy with U-haul, unfortunately, they are the biggest so when you go in, keep expectations low and know you will not be treated with respect or customer service in mind!
Erhan CThere was a Latina woman with sort of a pixie or shorter hair cut who was very rude and dismissive. I was charged for two gallons of gas and I literally only went from 60th and Michigan to 79 and township line road so THAT DOES NOT SOUND RIGHT. And I moved from one side of an apartment complex to the other and we only loaded the U-HAUL once she rushed me off and was like call the manager. So if someone ever falls out with her I can guarantee it was her dismissive and passive aggressive attitude. Get her some customer service training

Jason GThe staff at this location does not understand the process of online check in & pick up. They refuse to listen when I tried to explain that i was trying to finish the online pick up. I could not find the key box. They made me to do the rational in store pick up then once they realized it was online finished. Another 15min. It is almost always a terrible experience when going into the store. Rarely there is a polite person that works there. Unfortunately all the other local locations did not have the truck size we needed and so we ended up there.

Richard SPressured to return rental early & credit promise not honored Rented a pickup truck from this location and on my SECOND DAY — while still within my rental contract — I received a text from the General Manager, Antonio W., demanding I return the truck immediately because it "belonged to another location" and needed to be transferred. I was given a hard deadline of 2:30 PM, mid-rental, with no regard for my plans or the contract I had signed. To soften the pressure, Antonio offered a $50 credit. I returned the truck as requested. When I checked my bank account, U-Haul only credited $38.33 — not the $50 that was promised. A $11.67 discrepancy that I now have to chase down. This location prioritizes its own inventory logistics over honoring customer contracts. If you rent here, don't be surprised if they call you mid-rental demanding the vehicle back. And if they promise you compensation, get it in writing — because what they say and what they actually credit are two different things. Avoid this location if you need a reliable, uninterrupted rental experience.

Raymond RThe lady that checked me in the young lady was very nice, but when I got back to drop off the equipment, the lady that was taking my check-in was very rude and very unprofessional, and I asked about the refund on the mileage and she looked at me like I was crazy and that she wasn’t gonna give me a refund when I returned the truck with more gas in it then you guys gave to me so I think you guys probably need to work on her customer service skills just a little bit more

Instead of moving truck the guy decided to clean it out when he could clearly see I was trying to get through. I had to backup and go around. He needs to be respectful of people time.

Frank FPeople at pick up and drop off did well. Good to work with. The app was pretty good overall to use. My negative was a person I spoke with on the phone earlier in the week. I called because I had questions I could not find answers to on-line. Person on the phone was rude and impatient. Just about refused to answer my questions - like he couldn't be bothered with me. I hung up on him! Without that call experience, I would have given a better rating.
Jerry LThings that went well: The employee helping me pick up the trailer was incredibly helpful. Things to improve: Make sure the equipment is actually in good working order before trying to give it to a customer. Broken straps on a car transport trailer are a real concern. Don't allow random customers to plug there cell phones into payment terminals. This practice goes against PCI compliance and opens up not only the customer inserting there card for payment, but also U-Haul to potential data breaches.

juan dMy experience with this location was outstanding. However I want to advise that the movers that were supposed to provide labor only that I hired via the U-Haul website were absolutely worthless. Dennis with Proft Services was scheduled more than a week an advance to arrive at my office at 10:30am on 04/28/2026 texted at 10am to advise they would not arrive until 11:30 which completely blew up my schedule as we had two stops we were moving furniture that were waiting. Finally at 12:30 they advised they might make it by 3:30pm. Fortunately, the U-Haul store manager contacted another mover (Integrity) who were fantastic. Please blacklist Proft Services!!

Jeffrey HWhen we arrived to pick up the truck, we had to wait at least 10 minutes, if not more, to be assisted. No military discount was given, and when we refilled the truck, the gas gauge wasn't moving and we ended up overfilling it. The price to rent the truck was outrageous, and I probably won't rent from U-Haul again.

Greg HI put gas in the vehicle and took pictures of gas gauge and mileage use… they added another 2 gallons which means that the truck only got 6 miles per gallon…because 32 miles and 5 gallons… I was ripped off $10 in gas by this store … will not use again and don’t recommend…

Arnold CI was charged another full day of rent for returning the trailer 30 minutes late as we miscalculated the time change in our return trip. I can understand if the inventory was low and someone needed the trailer. But when I returned it, there were several other trailers in stock. I understand your policy, but the ability of someone to understand a mistake and use some judgement would have been nice. It did not feel welcoming or customer friendly. That may be company policy, but it feels cold from a customer standpoint. My experience was great outside of that.

We moved all our items from home into the U-Haul, filled the gas back up and arrived back at this location to now move items into a storage unit. Representative 1 obtained all my information, process payment, gave me my storage # & showed me how to access storage area. The movers open the storage unit and it was full of boxes from the previous storage owner. Representative 2 was notified and he stated “This is the customer’s fault.” & “We don’t have anymore units available.” I walked back to the front and Representative 3 (Hispanic Female) goes on to tell me “We don’t have anymore units here” “I am going to refund your money” “You have to go to another U-Haul location on layfette & see if they have a storage” “we check and clean storage at night” “we cannot touch the customers items in the storage.” Representative 3 didn’t care about us having to drive more miles to another location then back to this location to return uhual or the possibility that the next location might not have had any storage availability or that I had 2 movers waiting to unload our items for over an 1. Representative 4 gave me the mangers information and stated to call him immediately regarding this issue. After 1.5hrs the manager was able to provide me a storage unit and refund for first month (still waiting on refund) The manager was very professional, kind and compassionate about the situation.

There was a problem with my access card and staff members Stony and Jesus were always available to open the storage room and Stony put in great effort to investigate the problem by reaching out to his boss and then the supervisor above his boss too! So a huge shout out to the staff for being helpful. Monet was the agent who helped us secure the storage room and she was friendly and quick to get the room assigned so we could start moving in. The hallways are very well lit and there was even a cart we could use to move things into our storage unit. However the light in the storage room we rented was burnt out.
