RUDY OI scheduled a trailer pickup at 4:00PM. I arrived a 3:20 pm. The CSR set my return for 3:00PM the next day, which resulted in a very hectic day. I am just surprised that mid week I couldn't get a few extra minutes....
Paul KThere was a delay in email confirmation of the drop off. Dropped it off on Saturday. Didn’t receive confirmation until Monday. All other transactions were almost instantaneous.
Gregory CReserved two weeks in advance, on pickup reservation system had return date wrong, had to take a bigger trailer for more $ and worse gas mileage, not a huge deal but was an inconvenience. Location handled it well.

CARROLL GI reserved my U Box to be delivered to Bend, Oregon and it was not. It was delivered 30 plus miles away in the next town over, in Redmond, Oregon. I had to rent a cargo van to commute to the address in Redmond. Very unhappy experience, very inconsiderate to have it be in the next town over when I reserved a spot in Bend, waste of time, waste of money, waste of unnecessary materials.

I’m glad we came a few days before the actual move because it was less disruptive learning we needed to get a different space. The office did provide some rent compensation to make my actual cost close to what I would have paid for the smaller space.

GREGORY MThe man at the counter was friendly and efficient, however I was unhappy to see him use his personal phone to photograph my driver's license (without asking me first). When I mentioned my concern, He said I could have uploaded a photo of it myself. I let him know I never was presented with the option and showed him confirmation emails on my phone (with no mention of ID uploads). He agreed there did not seem to be the option he beleived to exist. UHaul should make it policy for staff to ask customers if they can use their personal phones for this purpose! The man who connected the trailer to my car was great! He was quick and very nice.

shannon wfront desk staff are not exactly friendly or welcoming. it's transactional and there is not a hint of appreciation for the business. the yard staff is outstanding - a bit rough on the equipment, but friendly and very helpful.

JOB MNothing the workers did wrong, but my vehicle was not 3/4 full, it was at half a tank. Also the door on this particular vehicle don’t close all the way causing awful winding noise the whole drive!! I also bought a bag of the protector sheets to over items, and when I opened the bag there was saw dust and used cigarettes butts mixed in with everything!

Paul BAfter driving from Montana to Maine, the experience when unliading two trailers was extremely disheartening, disappointing. We were originally offered a dirty storage unit without light inside of it and in the hallways. After rejecting that unit, we were reoeatedly given unckear instructions with regard to acailable renting spaces and sizes. We ended up spending more than six hours offliading first into a dark unit, then loading into the only supposedly available unit, which was too small. When asking for a bigger unit, we were told, nothing was available. - except the dirty and dark one. We then asked if we could get a second snaller unit as thete wasn't apparently a clean larger one. They then asled for more money, thoygh we had been told, the monthly rent wss free. I tried to talk to the manager. He was RUDE and the contrary to helpful..I feel VERY uneasy having my personal velingings stored there. I would like to move them to another location. I doubt they are in safe hands there. The staff and management at that location is TERRIBLE.
MICHAELA HEvery time I have been to the 411 marginal Way location there's always been this one specific woman who just about every time has dealt with me since back in 2023. I just want to put a compliment out to her unfortunately I cannot remember her name but she has always been absolutely amazing right on top of everything very professional and very sweet as well as the rest of the employees. I although it's been decent with other places that have U-Hauls that people Branch off of the corporation your actual service station rentals and storage units location has always been amazing I have never been to any other location or any other business that all employees are upbeat ready to work plus having actual employees that don't have an attitude compared to most businesses your location keep up the great work.

ALEX HThe rental procedure was simple , straightforward . Easy booking online, straight forward pick up ( no proof of insurance needed) to drop off, greeted as I pulled up. Have rented many vehicles thru Enterprise, Home Depot, Lowesand ,Avis. I will not hesitate to rent with uhaul again.
STEPHEN MPortland is horrible. Women working look and act like crack addicts, one was late for work while one walked out so too longer than needed, staff was unavailable for small repair so had to delay move.
Kinsman CI have repeatedly found the people that work at this location to be rude and unprofessional, including the manager. This last experience was no exception.

CODY BRecently I have noticed that UHAUL has added another fee customers need to pay for rentals. A $5.40 "Vehicle License Recovery Fee" on top of a $1.29 per mile charge. Why, seriously...
Kirk CBelow average at this location. I have a uhaul in Brunswick Maine as well and they're great! Uhaul overall, great! Marginal way in Portland is terrible bc of the owner. Assistant manager (Brittany I think?) is great!

ALFREDO FThere was some confusion when dropping off the trailer. There wasn't anyone outside to tell us where to park it. We orignially went to the main building & parked. Then was told to go to the lot across the street, we went over there and parked and the attendant walked over and flagged us to another spot. Wouldn've been helpful if they were clear the first time so we didn't have to move three times.
ERIN KOne associate had a poor attitude when asked to clean the ice and snow off the roof. Unpleasant.
Adam HIt was a busy day therefore the staff was not very friendly or helpful. I will think twice before going back. They gave me the impression that they weren’t happy the customers were there.

Wade BThe snow was piled up and hard to drive around the storage buildings. There’s a rat trap in my storage locker, and it makes me wonder if my stuff is insured against being chewed by rats. I know the storage area is flooded during lunar tides and rain storms, so I put my stuff on top of plastic bins to avoid flooding. My rental truck didn’t have any wiper blades. And I put some on and cut the old ones including the packaging. They wouldn’t reimburse me even after the person on the app said they would unless I had a receipt. I had to drive an hour home to find the receipt and come back. There was no snow brush or ice scraper, in the truck. I had to get my own. I felt bad for the next person, renting it without a snow, brush or scraper, so I left it in the truck. The U-Haul lady said she didn’t want it and gave it back to me even after I explained why I left it in. I wish my truck was better equipped for the rain and snow. I’ve been trying to buy a tow hitch for my own car for two years and they advertise they install them, but Terry says the guy left and they haven’t found a new guy. And I’m thinking it’s been two years. Haven’t they found someone yet?

CHRISTOPHER HA common mistake is to remove personal equipment, guess what I forgot my toll device. After remembering I didn't recover the device, I returned and it was safe and sound, waiting for my pick up. Thank you for careing.
dwight WThe area my unit was in was difficult to access - often the doors were blocked by trucks, and a door was open for anyone to walk in that wasn’t blocked as a solution. That meant it didn’t feel safe and secure. When I moved out of my unit, there was a rat trap in the unit and poisoned food was in some of the boxes in my unit as a result. This was not something I was informed about at all and I was really concerned about the safety and health risks here. I ended up throwing out things I had stored as a result.

ARTHUR BVehicle was iced in. Could not open the lockbox to get the key. Took at least a half hour to be confirmed online while I waited. Finally had to go inside and deal with a live person. There was nothing to clean the ice and snow off the windshield. Pretty poor experience. Almost could back out through the snowbank

Fortunately we arrived just before closing so the woman at the front desk helped us but was unable to provide the type of storage originally requested so we needed to get a more expensive one. After we finally got a unit and loaded our belongings, the 14' front garage door of the storage facility would not close. We called someone to let them know and waited about 40 minutes for them to arrive, wanting to make sure we didn't leave while the door was open. The man who arrived was able to fix the garage door....didn't seem appreciative that we called to alert him of the issue and/or waited to make sure no one went into the facility. Just trying to do the right thing....

Pat B | Overall ExperienceThe entire time I had my storage unit there were multiple trucks parked directly in front of my unit’s door requiring me to shimmy through between 2 trucks or completely around a line. When I brought it up to the office I was told that there was nothing to be done , but assured that by the summer it would be cleared up. That was this past summer and it never was. That made it pretty difficult to add or remove any items from the unit. One time I went to my unit , opened it and saw puddles of dirty water inside. Went to the office and was told “ oh yeah that’s how we clean. They use blowers and stuff gets in” I’m only now after moving out able to see the extent of the issues. When I cleaned out my storage unit two days before my last bill was due and went back to the office to let them know I was told everything should be all set. And then I just got charged for another month! Worst U-Haul experience I’ve ever had. And I am still waiting for my last ( current months refund)

Since I lived far away and had no other options I had to pay. I would like who ever reads this to investigate this matter. Your company shouldn't promise a storage unit free and then when we get there thats not case. The unit was very clean and spacious but that doesn't make up for the fact your agent was extremely rude, refused to look into the matter and kept pushing payment for the unit. I feel you have good company but this false advertising has made up my mind never to use you again. You must remember you have other competition out there. Thank you for your time

JANET T | Overall ExperienceStaff was generally pretty hostile and unhelpful, signage for hours that the actual bay doors open up for easier load in access is inaccurate. Had to rent a second unit last second, because the misleading description of the initial unit I rented. Supposedly I have a refund pending, since I never opened the unit that was 5' off the ground, but we'll see. The facility itself is maintained well enough, but I wouldn't recommend renting from a place where some lady yells at or insults her coworkers over the radio (whoever was working evening of 10/30), and the big bearded fella that smells like a wet ashtray just ignores questions and talks over you (morning of 10/31). I'm in a tight spot, so opted to just keep my unit. But given any other reasonable option that time of night, I would have much rather dipped and rented elsewhere.

It's not a question of waiting on the customer's side. U haul phone system makes it impossible to wait for someone at the facility they call to speak to them. Any call-back service is to a customer service representative not at the facility. People are sick and tired of these forms of innovation that deny person-to-person contact

Also, I wasn’t aware the unit I rented required a ladder to access. Luckily, I am able bodied and made it work but if I struggled with lifting or climbing, this would have been impossible.

jennifer s | First ImpressionsTom, the manager at the Portland facility, was not customer-friendly, blunt, and off-putting when simply asked typical questions. However, another younger employee, male, who had helped me earlier in the year, went beyond the call of duty, helping back my large 26' truck into the bay for me, and answered any questions with grace and accuracy. Once I returned the truck to the Augusta facility in Maine, the customer service was so good that I mentioned my experience with Tom in Portland. Both of them had stories to tell about his approach to customers and fellow employees, none of it complimentary. My only reason for bringing this up is that folks moving are already under stress. The more U-Haul employees can ease that stress level, the better. As one who has worked in customer service my entire career, good customer service reaps rewards on down the line.

When you make the reservation it’s advertised as 24hour access then when you get the confirmation you are informed access is only until 10pm. In reality, if you have a drive up unit you may access it 24hours(or I did several times) even though they tell you you can not. They should refine their communication with accurate information. Also I moved out the week before my billing date and was still charged so now I have to track down a refund. Even though I called to make sure I wouldn’t be billed I still was. Not at all convenient. Other than that everything was ok.

Their solution was a can of de-icer and a stubborn Russian. After an hour of trying to pry the lock, with little results, the Russian finally conceded that a torch or grinder was in order. Once he left, I was able to pry the lock enough to get access. Once Russian guy returned, noted he only had a screwdriver. No torch. No grinder. We already had a screwdriver. Thank god I got the lock to budge.

Michael J | Overall ExperienceI wasn’t informed that the storage unit was on the second floor. Access to one of the units was significantly restricted to to it being in a very narrow corridor. This prohibited the full use of the space of that storage unit. We were unable to navigate the corridor and place furniture in the unit. We ended up having to rent a second unit. Multiple people were clearly living in units. The area reeked of stale cigarette smoke,astray and mold. The place literally look like a garbage dump.. My only complaint is that there is a set of stairs leading to the 2nd floor storage units with no elevator, which is not super convenient. I suggest getting at least a freight elevator to enhance this experience. I do like the access hours, however.

Google maps had me come around the building go back up Co Street, I drove in the drive-up storage area and proceeded to find my way to customer parking. Upon reaching the front desk, Tristan explained that that was not in his normal position and tried to assist me the best he could. I told him I rented a locker online and needed to be shown where the locker was. He was not trained on the web self Storage. In hindsight he should have also asked me for my ID to verify who I was. I recall that I did get the code on the U-Haul app and sign up process and brought up the information on my phone. Tristan asked to see the code. He than showed me around the building to the indoor storage units. He showed me two keypads one to disarm my unit the other to enter the facility. He proceeded to answer all my questions with knowledge and was very helpful. Tristan explained that this location was temporary housing the vehicle repair as a new repair facility construction is ongoing. Tristan deserves recognition for being able to handle a position outside his own and providing me a good experience.

(Again, you had my credit card that has never expired or stopped working.) Your rates went up constantly, and half the time the trucks were parked in front of my garage in a way that made it impossible to access in off hours. Never, ever again.

It took 45 minutes to get it all worked out and I had movers waiting and getting paid to wait. The man who took back the truck, Griorgi? Was super friendly and quick.

I went online and put the payment on auto, then received a few days later a letter telling me that if I put the payment on auto The late fees would be refunded. They were not refunded and I got another late fee the next month for one unit which is when I found out that each unit was charged separately. I went in and explained and the single late fee was refunded, but I was told that it was to late to refund the first two.

Portland needs serious training in properly securing the chains. You need guys like RYAN on the job and the schmuck in Brunswick needs to find a job washing dishes. The units were not clean when I took possesion and by design are not well sealed from environmental polution, risk of contamination from adjacent units. On a number of occasions while I was accessing my unit for storage, I noticed people that were using there unit as “tiny homes” smoking, lounging, napping even in their unit.

Third individual had the right info and assurances. I fell on ice on street where I was forced to park because the U-Haul lot was full of trucks and vans on a slow Sunday morning. You charge for EVERYTHING connected to your business. The least you can do is to provide a commensurate service. Doing otherwise labels you as arrogant because you are the "only game in town". Your attitude is "take it or leave it". Have heard it more than once. Now I know first-hand.
