Overall, the pickup went smoothly. The only two areas of concern were the wait time and condition of the trailer. I realize its a very busy location, but have waited in line every time I'm at this location. The trailer itself, while mechanically sound, appeared to be quite old with faded paint and peeling decals. Additionally, there was a small leak at the front of the trailer and some of our items got wet.

Obviously short staffed. Staff seemed stressed and impatient. Equipment at desk not working, so couldn't swipe credit card. Long wait line to pick up. Not enough customer partaking. Backup of returned vehicles, so that I was unable to get receipt at drop off.

Very helpful at this location. However, our original pick up location of Paper Party House 633 Warren Ave Portland, ME 04103 did not have our vehicle ready and did not notify us that it would not be available. We had even called the day before to confirm and was told we were all set. The attendant was not apologetic at all. Her answer was "well, we haven't taken any money yet." We were sent to another location. This set us back...told it was two blocks away and it was actually 15 minutes.

Vehicle was dirty and had damage that was not noted. However, when I told them they seemed to know about it. I also asked for a 4 wheel drive pick up, and after checking the lady on the phone told me it was a four wheel drive, when in fact it was not. The truck worked for what I needed it for and the gentleman at the counter was nice and very helpful.

Seemed to be lots of questions on my truck when I was renting an open trailer. Why the need to know if it is an expanded cab, the make and model of the truck? Maybe it is to locate the trailer if I don't return it but it seemed odd to be answering all the truck questions.

I used the self check-in app which worked reasonably well, though it was time consuming - but worth it I figured to save the waiting in line. It took about 10 minutes or so to make the reservation, and another 10 minutes or so once on site to find the truck, inspect damages, upload license, etc. - but again, worth it to save time waiting in line. Imagine my surprise when it came time to pick up the key. I HAD TO WAIT IN LINE!!! Are you serious? The on-line self check-in actually took longer than it would've to simply do the whole thing the old fashioned way. It would've been far quicker had I simply called to reserve, and had the clerk at the desk take my license, etc. Wouldn't it make sense to have someone deliver the key to me once the on-line check-in process was finished?

When I dropped the truck off, there was one employee checking in trucks, he took my keys and said I didn't need to wait for a slip they would email me, when I recieved my email they charged me for an additional day even though the truck was turned in 45 mins early. I'm sure it was because they were under staffed and they didn't complete the paperwork until after the drop off time , even though the truck was turned in early. Now I have to battle them to credit me for the extra days charge!!

The guys at UHaul were great and helped me find my cell phone that I accidentally left in a pickup truck after dropping it off. It's a very busy location on Marginal Way in Portland and they were all very helpful despite that.

Drop off could be easier for a trailer. The drop off area was completely clogged with trucks being returned.

I had a pickup at 5 and I arrived at 5:15. The front desk service was rude and he left during helping me to help a customer that came in after me and had to ask a "quick question" that left new standing without any help for 10 minutes. I finally got my key and waited outside for my van. After 10 minutes I asked if someone was getting my van but no one was but they would get right on it. 10 mins later I saw the guy who was going to get my truck just standing around so I asked the front desk if someone was getting my truck. Again, the answer was no. I waited another 10 mins and finally got my truck that had no windshield wiper fluid and and an unswept back after an hour of waiting.

I remembered Mr. Bellavance since several other rentals in 2002. His service then, and now, is extraordinary. When I returned his vehicle this time, it seemed no one was available to process it. I took the opportunity to transfer personal items back to my nearby car. Upon returning, my paperwork was missing from the front seat! One of the staff had actually taken it and completed processing. Facility has grown much larger and busier than 15 years ago, and James and I are both a bit older! Best of all, though, the staff are all exceptional, and a sufficient number to handle the larger volume. Congratulations on your Portland (ME) site!!!



I rented three times within a month. Each time I observed staff manage difficult customers with professionalism. The equipment I needed was ready and my weight was minimal when I had reservations. I really appreciated just being able to hand the key off when I was done and go.

The wait time in line at the begining (both times - we rented twice recently) was over 30 minutes. It was clear that there were not nearly enough employees working to meet the demand. After being given my key, I was told to go find the vehicle "across the street." I started to walk away when I realized I hadn't seen any pick-up trucks parked across the street. I came back and asked where exactly the truck was, and then the employee explained it was in a lot across a side street around the corner (not visible from the customer entrance). When I found the lot he was talking about, I spent about five minutes searching for the vehicle before I realized I need to match the number on the keychain to a black printed number on the vehicle itself, NOT the license plate number. Perhaps the employee said this, but I walked away with the impression that I was looking for the license plate number. I think they need to do a better job in general of explaining how to locate the vehicle, or need additional staff to be able to bring customers to the vehicle they have rented. I shouldn't have to figure out your system and spend time searching for it. The process of checking vehicles in and out also seems to be completely random: when we (my husband) rented a truck the week before, he was able to return the truck and walk away in less than one minute. But when I returned the truck this time, I had to wait in line (again), then I was brought out to the truck while someone inspected it, then I was escorted to a computer terminal inside a garage bay, then I was informed the terminal wasn't functioning, and had to follow the employee inside and wait for him to process paperwork and complete the transaction, which in total took about 20 minutes. Overall, I wasn't impressed with the experience.
