We had to cancel the first movers we booked because the boxes were not delivered on time. Boxes were supposed to arrive between 8-10am but it didn't arrive until 1pm. It was very frustrating and it cost us a lot to book another set of movers. A better time management and scheduling should be considered.

The all female driver crew was fabulous, professional, all with great personalities. They got the job done quickly and efficiently. JACOB BI rented 2 trucks on this day (Sat. March 22) The first location in Urbana on2010 Philo road needs Customer Service Reps who are better trained and knowledgeable to handle rental transactions in a timely and proficient manner. Her name was Christina and gentlemen was Asian forgot his name. Therefore, their review is below average and currently would not recommend this location. However, the second rental was done in Champaign at the location on University Avenue. Please know that Indya Murphy is Knowledgeable, Professional, Personable and Excellent in providing a high quality of Customer Service. I also noticed the other Customer Service Rep who was there that day and how she Professionally and Personally exuberated Outstanding service to her customer. I love the new location in Champaign and would definitely recommend it to friends and family!! Overall location: Excellent; Clean: Yes;

JOHN RFrom customer service to equipment, this place hasn't been operating professionally since the last manager and her team left and went to the other store. I went in this time, the girl didn't know what she was doing so it took a while, understood. I finally get to the truck and it doesn't start. I go in, I'm given another truck, okay right...no this truck is on E! I don't have an hour of time to give Uhaul just to pick up a truck. The process was always smooth with the other ladies Ashley and Paris.

MARK BThe Urbana, Illinois location / store is very clean, and the staff is friendly, helpful and very professional. No complaints on the team who serves this location and would like to welcome Austin as the new General Manager. However, I do have a complaint which I believe is totally out of the control of the staff. As Spring 2025 arrives, it is time for a professional detailing company to come in and detail the interiors of the fleet and wash the exteriors. Both the interior and exterior windows are unsafe for night driving due to the film build-up. The staff has no interior facilities to pull each unit inside nor the time to complete interior cleaning from the filthy customers (including AMAZON drivers) who could care less on how they treat the equipment or what they leave for the next customer to sit and/or drive in. The unit I operated (BE3180D) FORD Transit which I prefer to operate is missing a hub cap on the front passenger side, visor missing on the driver side, low tire icon warning light on the dash and none of the tire pressures match. It is very obvious this unit has been abused by previous customers who could care less. This unit needs attention and a complete CORPORATE SAFETY CHECK, regardless of the fact it only has 25,000 miles. Reference the appearance of the units, U-HAUL Illinois either needs to construct wash bays at both the Champaign and Urbana locations and hire dedicated detailers to clean up after careless filthy customers or contract with a local vehicle cleaning company such as Atlantic Services to come in on a bi-monthly basis to maintain and keep the fleet looking safe and new for customers who do care because your regular customer service employees do not have the time to deal with a major issue such as this. Their focus should be on serving customers in person and over the phone. I rent a cargo van every other week at the Urbana, Illinois location to serve senior and disabled adults transporting groceries and supplies. Paris Reagan and her staff knew me very well before being reassigned to the brand-new Champaign, Illinois location. I am a retired Corporate Director of Human Resources & Safety with both ILLINI-SWALLOW-LINES and Peoria Charter Coach Company and totally understand how customers such as the University of Illinois and the Department of Athletics expected our motorcoaches to appear and would only allow us to use less than three-year-old coaches due to appearance and presentation. Should anyone at U-Haul Illinois corporate wish to question my judgement, I welcome their phone call. In summary, hold the customers accountable who could care less by charging them additional cleaning fees when using careless judgement leaving mud, bodily fluids, etc. on the dash, console and cab doors and windows for other customers who do care to deal with and if you expect your local staff members to deal with it, then provide them with the equipment and time needed to restore and sanitize each unit properly before returning to the line for the next for the next rental. Did we not learn anything from COVID-19 when it comes to sanitization of items used by multiple clients? One last suggestion, fill the fuel tanks to capacity and demand each customer to return the unit with a full tank taking out the guess work, especially during the winter season!

Virginia KThe uhaul reaked of cigarette smoke. I go a call the night before my move thzt the truck dixe wasn't available and I had to go to a different farther location to get a truck..still.not the right size. They did offer me a bigger truck but that would have been way too big.
Angela VI wouldn’t say this location was completely bad, but the customer service could have been better. My main issue, however, lies with U-Haul as a whole. I made a reservation a week in advance and was given three different locations within a few days. My preferred choice was Ace Hardware in Champaign, as it was closer to where I was located. Initially, I was told a truck was available there. However, I then received an email a day later informing me of a location change to East University in Champaign, which was about 3 or 4 miles away. The next day, I received yet another location change to a site in Urbana on Philo Road, which was approximately 6.5 to 7 miles from my home. Ultimately, I spent more time and money driving to pick up and drop off the truck than I did actually using it for my move.
DARIUS WSignage on front of building could be improved to make check-in easier. I received way too many emails for renting one unit. Minimize the amount of emails and it would be easier to find instructions on how to check in. One email stating that I had a storage facility rented, what size, what number, and how to check in would’ve made the process a lot easier. I do not want to download the app.

STEPHEN BWithout an interior cleaning bay, the vehicles are as clean as they can be during the stretch of cold weather we have experienced. When the shuffle of staff occurred last month, I was very concerned about what would take place at the Urbana, Illinois location. Thus far, I am impressed with the transition. I rent vans every two weeks at this location and have been dealing with the Field Manager and have enjoyed the conversations we have been having. I am a retired Corporate Director of Human Resources & Safety, and I know how difficult it is to retain and hire qualified employees and even more so to locate just the right person to promote and/or recruit to become the new General Manager for Urbana, Illinois. I definitively want to compliment the team of young African American men who are now working the evening shifts at the Urbana, Illinois location. Hard working, professional and always busy. Refreshing to see this and I hope the very best for them in their future careers and if it is with U-Haul, then U-Haul will benefit highly from employing these young adults allowing them to work from the ground up climbing the ladder to great achievement.

Chekeda MOne of the employees was not very helpful. He acted like we were bothering him even being in the store. Other employees were very helpful. Picking up the truck, using it, and returning it were all reasonably smooth.
THOMAS WI was new to using UBoxes. So, I was not sure how many UBoxes I would need after 23 years in a home that I sold. Using UBoxes made my packing and moving effortless. I got to schedule when I needed empty UBoxes, and when I wanted them picked up to be stored. I had to do it twice. I started with 4, then needed 3 more. Upon closing on my new home, the Team allowed me to request which UBoxes I needed first, and the cooperation was impeccable. I did not read the UBoxes information regarding folding up the covers upon emptying the UBoxes. I apologize for not doing this in the first 5 bins. I am folding them in the last two. You Ladies, and Gentlemen, were excellent!

For two people in their 70's this was a perfect answer to our move from Illinois to Pennsylvania. The Philo Rd drop off / pick up staff were energetic and efficient. All through this process UHaul was excellent at communication.

When I opened the overhead door onsite, I found 12-15 moving blankets piled on the floor and the moving blanket "packet" seal (mounted on the sidewall) was broken. Also, there was no dolly. I hadn't rented one. I was just concerned that I might be charged for used and "missing" items (the dolly). The box hadn't been swept out prior to my rental as there was small items from a previous move left behind. The cab was clean, the truck ran great and the staff was pleasant. Reservation online, pickup and dropoff were all efficient, quick and easy, and the rental and milage price beat the competitors. I would rent again.

SYEDMUHAMMAD ANothing, just keep doing what you are already doing and follow your General Manager's lead. This location has the friendliest staff I have ever dealt with in business. Sure, they are human, and they have their moments just like everyone else, but this location is different, and they go above and beyond and most of all, they respect their GM and therefore causing each of the staff to excel regardless of the position they serve, learning to deal with difficult customers at times, resulting in five-star customer satisfaction. As a result, becoming a team with each member having the potential to move up the corporate ladder or move on in life having the experience they have gained by being associated with the Urbana location of U-Haul. I have reserved many vehicles and purchased several items at this location, and this has always been my experience each and every time. In a world with so much negative, it is always refreshing to conduct business where the old school method remains in full force. Great job, as always!

LAQUESHA TThe staff was friendly, but was not helpful. My biggest issue was not with the storage facility itself, but with the terrible equipment available. As I moved out I rented a trailer. The first trailer's rear door was not working, the second trailer did not have a working right hand turn signal and the third trailer that was available was not in the system. I offered a deal to the staff where we could just swap what my rental was and that was not allowed- at a certain point, I don't want to sound entitled, but when the staff won't go outside because it's too cold, just let me swap what I'm renting rather than having me hook and unhook the trailers.

KELLY THighly recommend this location. All of the staff are extremely courteous and helpful. When my unprofessional mover showed up a half hour late and one person short, the staff quickly helped me find an affordable alternative. Thanks to them, I was able to pivot and get my move completed as planned. Also, the process of renting a moving truck rental went smoothly and was without issues. The only word of caution I would give is to be aware of the indentation in the side walk at the front entrance after dark. I forgot it was there while I was outside waiting for a Lyft, and when I turned to go back inside the building, I lost my balance and fell, and banged up my knee. But for that, the experience would have been 100% problem-free.

KATHERINE PSomeone seemed to think that the unit we had rented was being linved in. It was not. There are no lights in the parking lot that come on at night. It is very dark and hard to see. We ended up moving the unit at dark and had to get lights since theirs do not come on. If they were going to kick us out, which the paper I received said it was a second notice(I never received a first notice) That we had 72 hours to get out, but they gave me 24 hours and waited until the rent on unit had been paid for only 2 days when this happened. No refund in sight. They are very rude at this location and this is not the first time I have had a problem with them. I will not be renting anything from this location again. I sometimes need to rent trucks a few times a year, even though they are down the street from my house I will go elsewhere.

A little increase I get, but from $29.99 to $44.99 is a lot it will be $49.99 in 3 months and that’s absurd for a small unit that hasn’t improved any anyway. It should be the opposite as valued customers should get a kick back month now and then. Perhaps doing a promotion where if you’re never late for 11 months, the 12th month should be free to reward customers rather than always punishing them for long term business. Thanks for the space the last 4.5 years. Could have been longer for sure.

I was leery about Urbana at first, but surprised on how well I have been treated. All the staff are so friendly, very professional, and know their stuff, plus they check, double check, and triple check their trucks and hitches to make sure it’s done correctly. The facility is always kept very clean, and I have not seen any evidence of insects or rodents. Ive had a unit in Urbana since 2018, and have had to add 5 additional units due to my parents moving here. If I didn’t think they were good, I would have gone elsewhere. Again, I can’t praise the staff and the facilities enough. They are amazing!

I only required an outside unit and I was able to access It easily, and the staff was quick and helpful both on my move in and move out. This was exactly what I needed for the time. My only suggestion is maybe expand the WiFi signal to reach the outdoor units. That would have been very helpful at my move in when my cell phone service was temporarily disconnected and I'm sure it would benefit many other guests too. Otherwise everything was perfect!

When I arrived to remove my travel-trailer, I discovered that my weight distribution hitch (and the locker I used to store it) had been stolen. The weight distribution hitch is a towing-safety device, so losing it isn't good for anyone. Also, the thief left the lock, my hitch pin (stored inside the box), and a coat hanger on the ground under my travel trailer just to send me some sort of message. If you'd asked me a month ago, this would have been a five-star review -- but I was paying U-Haul for a place to park and at least video surveillance of my stuff.

SARAH C | Overall ExperienceThe facility would have received an excellent rating. HOWEVER, large sliding doors (and garage entrances) were NOT functional on a Sunday during normal business hours. Which meant I had to push loaded carts through the push door and almost injured myself. Because the employee had a line of people, got told to take my turn in line. While understandable, I wasn't there for a NEW service, but just to have access to my storage, which I had already paid extra for and which should have been available at the time, which was AFTER 10am. Over the years, I often wondered why I was paying extra, when the drive-in garage often malfunctioned and I was even trapped in the garage once. If I had a dollar for every time I didn't have full access to the features I was paying for in the climate controlled storage, I would probably have at least $100. No exaggeration.

My dad has had a unit at another facility for over 20 years and has never had either so I know it’s possible to prevent. But that has to do with construction, not service. However, the parking spot I rented was not as described. I rented a "10X20X99 RV/BOAT/VEHICLE/PARKING OUTSIDE LEVEL NO CLIMATE NO ELECTRICITY", but the spot was about 20' long, not 99'. The 99' long spot had been impinged on by a box-truck which was taking up two spots. I was able to fit my 25' camper into the 20' spot by overhanging the curb, so it's fine for now - but my future plans involve storing my tow vehicle along with my camper. I would like to move to a spot that's the length descried in the line-item (if possible), or rent a second spot (if I must) some time in the next few months. We live in a university-town, so I imagine that the pressure on storage will be greatly reduced after the university starts in the fall. I will revisit this issue issue after Move In is finished. The current setup works fine for now. Again, I have great things to say about the employee who helped me with the move-in process. She explained everything clearly, and was on-top of the issues and the paperwork, and knew the state of the parking spots and was able to explain the situation to me. She provided great customer service. I will, however, need more great customer service in the future when I need the amount of space I'm being billed for.

When I actually got there, I was told that the smaller unit was all taken. The only the larger one is available and the manager offered me a discount. If I only leased it during the summer, that would have been fine. But because of Covid, the unit was leased for 15 months more than the anticipated. My suggestion to you is not to lease the unit when you don’t have the unit. If you did, you should be able to honor it as the smaller unit price.

Therefore, in spite of how clean, safe, and accessible the unit was, I am still frustrated that I ended up having to pay a late fee for my storage unit. When I did the initial paperwork in the office, I understood that I was signing up for automatic payments. I also never received a bill by email or postal mail in advance of my monthly payment date. It was incredibly frustrating to find out that I'd incurred a penalty fee after the fact. Whether or not the misunderstanding about autopay was strictly my fault, it is poor customer service not to send a notice in advance of a monthly charge. All other companies provide this courtesy. I feel that I was taken advantage of by UHaul, and will not be recommending UHaul storage to friends and family.

My access code to arm/disarm the alarm never worked and the alarm sounded every time I opened my unit. Service was slow and communication with uhaul reps vague. I wasn't able to move into my unit on the day scheduled because a uhaul rep failed to book my moving truck for the correct time, and when I had to pick up the truck at 6 they didn't inform me that offices closed at 7. I was frustrated and disappointed with the lack of basic communication.

Tanya K | Online Move InI was referred to the Southgate location after stopping at the Champaign U-Haul and was told by a polite gentleman that they were sold out of storage units. I arrived at Southgate and the older male behind the counter offered to assist after the store manager had to call him to return to the front counter while she assisted other customers. I requested a 5x5 but was told they were sold out and the only other option was a 10x10, which was double the price. I told him that I only needed to store a few items from my daughter’s dorm room that were in my small SUV just until August 22nd. The store manager told him that he could give me one of the 5x10 units that was reserved but he ignored her. I asked if I can wait for the store manager to handle but he insisted that she would tell me the same so I proceeded to reserve the 10x10 for nearly $400 and no free lock if I reserved it online. I asked if they could accept $299 since they had a bunch of 10x10 units open and no smaller ones but he said we don’t barter. I told him to cancel the transaction so I could proceed to reserve it online only to find that I could reserve the 5x10 unit and pay for it plus receive the free lock. The male then huffed and asked if I was asking him to cancel the transaction that he just entered for the past 15 mins as if I didn’t lose 15 mins of my time and he wasn’t still getting paid to talk about his life in San Diego. I said yes! Then the store manager turned to him and politely said “that’s what I said you could do for her earlier”. Needless to say, this would be a poor rating of it weren’t for the store manager and I would highly suggest you place reservations and pay for them online in order to avoid being up sold and overspending
