The fuel was below half a tank when I picked it up but I was told I have to fill it up to half a tank when I drop it off. Also, the app didn’t work and delayed me as I was trying to check in to take pictures. Ultimately I wasn’t able to use the app. Also, I reserved a flat furniture dolly over a month ago and I really needed it for the move, but when I got there there were none left. I was relying on Uhaul to have the equipment they said it would have but they didn’t. I would’ve gone elsewhere if I had known that because I really, really needed that dolly.

Our U-Haul died on us after we had just loaded it. Not sure what the issue was but the Customer service at the 26 K ST location in Washington DC was so poor it is laughable. Jenai who works there was so incredibly rude and unprofessional it's appalling. I have had 100% outstanding experiences in the past with UHaul, however this experience stands out. Jenai should be reprimanded for her behavior, and perhaps be taught how to properly handle customer encounters. Honestly the UHaul dying on us was not even that big of a deal. I get it, it was annoying but stuff happens, but the way the UHaul team handled our experience is why I am so distraught.

I am very frustrated with this location. They charged me an extra $17 and told me to call back the next day for a refund. I proceeded to call back the next day and they said they’d call me back but never did. I would really like a refund.

i dropped off after hours, and there was another vehicle blocking the driveway (parked there) which made me have to drive a bit and then enter through the exit driveway. also, the key return slot was almost entirely unmarked on a building somewhat removed from the actual lot (there was another non-uhaul building in between). It was pouring rain, and there was no signage. The only way we found the key drop was because another guy who had been there for awhile looking all over for the drop slot pointed it out to us

I ordered furniture dollies but there were none. The guy just said “we don’t have any” then refunded the rental of these. This could have been communicated during booking two weeks earlier instead of at the time of rental so I could have arranged something else. Instead I had to purchase a dolly for 3 x the rental cost and am now stuck with a U-Haul branded dolly I no longer need or have space for. I originally hired a 9’ van but the van provided was much smaller than originally specced. I had to upgrade this to a 10’. No big deal as the price was the same, except the mileage cost, but this shouldn’t have needed to happen. The after hours key drop box is not clearly labeled.

The vehicle was fine and all, had no issues with that. But I did make the mistake of leaving my apartments keys in the van, only realizing after I turned the van key in. My big issue is that it took 3 1/2 hours for roadside assistance to show up and open the door, a process that took no more than 2 minutes. Not only was I forced to wait for an absurd amount of time, but I was forced to wait through a thunderstorm (this occurred after hours). Then, on top of all of that, the original roadside assistance guy, who was supposed to show up in about 30 minutes, bailed out after 2 hours. Then, I was given a different roadside assistance guy whom I had to wait another 90 minutes for. While I had no issues with the vehicle, the roadside assistance was a nightmare (the guy who ultimately showed up and got the keys for me was great).

Upon arrival the process was relay quick and easy. I was instructed to take my paperwork outside and ask for a person whose name began with a B. Byron possible. I stood and waited as an employee continued to walk past, so I went back inside to inquire if I were at the correct spot, of which I was. I proceeded back to the lot as the employee continued to ignore my presence (in blistering heat). I finally approached the employee who was quite dismissive to me from my introduction. He proceeded to reassign me a vehicle because the original vehicle that was assigned was behind the one he gave me. Long story short, this guy clearly did not want to assist or do his assigned to provide a vehicle for me. Gas supply of the pickup vehicle was just over a quarter of a tank, leading to me having to fill the tank in rush hour traffic, and searing heat. It was horrible. The clerk where I checked in was awesome, the vehicle clean on the inside, however the overall customer service became crap when I entered the lot to retrieve the vehicle. I also return the vehicle with more gas then what I picked up and did not receive a credit. So no, I would not recommend U haul particularly if they continue to have that parking gentlemen employed without proper retraining. Thank you for allowing me to comment.

I was having trouble with the QR code, trying to log into the website to finish the rental, but one of the nice folks working there took pity on me and processed the return herself. This was especially welcome, since I wasn't sure I had enough battery left on my phone to call a Lyft in an unfamiliar city, and spending the power on the return might have left me stranded. Kudo's all around.

Check in was super confusing, staff wasn’t much help and was chatting about personal lives at front desk while customer line built up. Manager not very professional. Sent me to go get a truck that wasn’t even on the lot, no one could find it. Then sent me to another truck which was triple parked in. Finally was able to get my truck after an hour of figuring this out at the store. Truck was in ok condition and did have a tire monitor system warning light on. It worked for what I needed but glad I don’t need to use a uhaul again

The location ran out of dollies despite our reservation for one, and there was no apology/workaround given. It was phrased as, "I'm going to have to take that charge off your account because we don't have any more." There was also broken glass in front of the truck that we informed the staff about--no action was taken.

Customer service was bad all around. I placed my reservation on the app for a mobile pickup. My key was supposed to be in the lockbox, but the lockbox was empty. All doors to it were open and all keys gone. Fortunately, I happened to be picking it up while the office was open, so I was able to get a new key from the customer service desk. At the desk, the employee was not pleasant or communicative. She wasn’t busy at all, so I don’t know why she seemed so put out talking to us. When I got to my van, none of the items I had ordered were there. I had paid for 2 dollies and furniture pads. I went back to the customer service desk where she said we had to get those items ourselves from the shed they have out back. The shed itself was incredibly disorganized. All of this ate into the time I paid for with this truck. Very frustrating. Overall a bad experience. The only reason I’d use this U-Haul location again is because it’s the most conveniently located. Otherwise, do not recommend.

The two staff working the morning of 7/31/25 were completely disengaged; it was as if me needing assistance was an inconvenience for them. I had to go back and forth from the “customer service” representative to the parking lot attendant multiple times. Once I checked the vehicle out and it was time to collect the additional equipment, the lot attendant was no where to be found. Once he finally appeared he simply said “yeh?” as if that is a professional way to respond to a customer. When I informed him I needed the rental equipment he simply opened the storage facility, pointed to a broken furniture mover and shrugged his shoulders. At no point did he try to assist or find a solution. I had to call and go to another Uhaul store outside of DC to get the equipment (and better customer service). I know these aren’t the highest paying jobs out there, but if they don’t want to do the minimalist tasks that are required, and in a manner that at least somewhat appears to be helpful, they should find employment elsewhere. Even though it’s conveniently located, I will never use that location again.

Uhaul seems to price gouge in the DC area. I rented a bigger 20' truck a couple weeks later in another area and it was a third of the cost. Having confirmed my rental two days prior, I was called at 430om the afternoon prior to my next AM pick up and told there were no trucks and no dollies, pads, etc...Basically my order was moved to another place. When I went into person to fix. Out what was going on, the woman behind the counter was rude and cold and even said "I don't even normally work at this store." She should work at any store with that attitufe. Having no choice I went to the other place and they took had neither of the dollies ordered and had 9 of 24 furniture blankets ordered. Mind you there.were a dozen for sale inside the store. I would not recommend Uhaul in the DC area to anyone.

I reserved a appliance dolley… but then I get there morning of the move and they have none… Took me longer to move as a result and was threatened by rude staff with fines. Will not be recommending this location moving forward and will advise friends that uhaul is unreliable in equipment needs.

The after hours drop off was confusing. No one was parked in the spots just the return equipment lanes. Also when I go to pick up the equipment I rented, they didn’t have any of it???? They didn’t have furniture dolly’s, furniture pads, or the other stuff I rented. I ended up just buying the dolly’s so whatever but if they didn’t have any for sale I just wouldn’t have been able to move. You should put on your website if the equipment is available or not. This could cause major inconveniences. The whole purpose of me renting the U-Haul and not hiring movers is because I was also able to rent the equipment. I can’t move my furniture all by myself.

The employees were excellent and helpful. No issue with them. I booked the truck and equipment on-line. When I got there, I was informed the location never has 'Dollys' to move things. If you don't have it, ever, don't offer it on the app. I would have made arrangements to bring one. Then I was told the truck I reserved was unavailable. Other folks seemed to be having some challenges getting trucks they reserved. Finally, after some good work by the employees I was offered a much bigger truck. I took the truck but was charged the full rate (not that it was a lot extra money for my purposes, but they should have honored the original rate in this case, but I had to move.) I understand UHAUL is at the mercy of customers returning their equipment on-time but it truly seemed to me as a first time user of UHAIL that this must happen frequently. Need better asset tracking. This seems to be a bigger probelm than customers not returning equipment on time. The employees who helped us were friendly and did eventually offer me an option that worked and I thank them.

My overall experience renting equipment through U-Haul was fine. My experience renting labor to help load the van was AWFUL. I booked two helpers through U-HAUL and NO ONE SHOWED UP to load the van I had already picked up and paid for. I had reserved an elevator and a loading dock space at the apartment building. NO ONE SHOWED up to load the van. U-Haul says not their problem, contact movinghelp.com, they book the movers even though on U-Haul site, Movinghelp.com says not their problem - the movers are all separate businesses and they just book them and take the money. So DO NOT BOOK MOVING HELP through U-Haul or Movinghelp. No show. No apology. No help.

Nobody inside really wants to help you they switch my appointment to self serve although I chose to deal with an actual person. The equipment that I requested was not in the vehicle when I received it. I was on a time schedule so I did not return inside to retrieve the equipment. I took pictures showing that I didn’t have it. When I returned the vehicle to you all I couldn’t even get the parking lot but I tried my best. I put the truck key I had back in the lock box because I couldn’t locate the drop box. The one brown skin girl that did help me directed me and helped me to get my key when I was inside I do appreciate her.

Because the office is not immediately adjacent to the parking lot, and because there is another business as well as trees, etc. between the two, the office is hard to find and it's not clear where one should go when picking up. Signage or a full-time attendant on the lot would be helpful. Not related to this particular location: The UHaul app is SO cumbersome and slow when it comes to checking a vehicle out and providing all the necessary documentation. I like the automated aspect of some of it but overall it needs to be made more intuitive and streamlined.

This was the worst and most dangerous U-haul I have ever been in. The mirror will not adjust and I had to driver over 500 miles (from DC to Detroit) with the most dangerous road trip ever. When I got to the drop off location, the attendant said the reason why I couldn't adjust the mirrors was because the last person had them tightened to much. Also, Did I mention that because I was driving the entire trip with practically no working mirrors, I almost tipped over the truck a couple times as I kept on driving off the road. Did I mention I was almost side swiped by a semitruck on the freeway. I hope you take this truck out of service as it doesn't belong on any road.

I waited for 40 minutes in store when this was meant to be a contactless reservation. The system was supposedly down, but when I asked for a third time for an estimated time (my movers, hired through U-Haul, had already arrived at my place), someone was suddenly able to figure it out on their computer. The whole operation was so disorganized and frustrating. I also asked for a few additional products as part of my truck reservation that I was not given, and still charged for. Won’t be using U-Haul again.

Always check your mirrors in case they are loose. You don't want them to dip or swivel out on the road. I come to the Capitol Hill location because of the good customer service and friendly atmosphere. Other locations are closer and larger, but I like to stick with a good thing. Jenai, the manager is first to arrive at 7am. She is always available for questions and gets back to you when you ask for help. Adrian and Alvin, whom I also see a lot, are very competent and can accommodate people like me who are special needs. On my last trip, a tire went flat, I scanned the QR code on my receipt, help came quickly, a man by the name of Christopher Williams. It was a difficult job, the truck was fully loaded and parked on a steep incline. He really hustled and muscled. He kept at it until he had jacked the truck up far enough to swap a tire. We kept our schedule! Thank you.

Where to start, there was the last minute bait and switch on the reservation type that forced me to use their mobile pickup and drop off which requires egregious permission for location tracking, there was the threats from staff that my not wanting to allow location was "suspicious" and weren't going to rent the truck to me, there was their assurance and flat out lie that they only access location when you pick up and drop off the truck, my device logged 57 location accesses from U-haul services over the course of ~7 hours after I allowed it access to my location at the time of rental, which was my concern because I specifically opted to not do mobile pick-up because of the privacy policy around location and tracking of it. So, to say I'm dissatisfied is an understatement. Absolutely gross practices.

The self storage unit is in an awkward place to park your truck to be able to back in and unpack your truck. The cars were blocking the driveway so I had to wait. I had some issues with accessing the storage unit after hours. The manager was nice enough to give me a refund. I want to also add that the service from everyone that I encounter was top-notch my friend and I were talking about how impress we were because our past experiences haven’t great. But this location is doing something right. The staff are amazing.

Need better supervisors and also better communication skills, talking to customers and Delilah customers also let them know that understand the rules and regulations of the storage unit instead of giving them a contract. Also be mining them how the business is run. Sometimes people forget what you supposed to be doing at the U-Haul so yes, I put this score as a reason is because leadership and comprehension and understanding and communication is the key of business and also leadership for business consultant solutions for other business who want to come and use the storage unit as a business or as a customer, it was actually poor but it’s OK. I know what to do for now I’m learning my life is new everybody learn something so learning.

I interacted with you office staff twice; getting the unit and closing the unit rental. The staff that assisted me, two different persons, acted like I was "bothering" them. Is not what they said or what they did, it was their attitude. Their tone of voice was like they were mad, like they hated being there. They are the face of your company, the one I prefer for my moving and storage needs. I don't need pleasantries or even greetings; but, I don't need to feel like I'm a burden to you. I'm the customer! The paying customer. Based on this experience I'll never use U-Haul services in DC.

It is my first time requiring uhaul services, it was late and it almost close for regular busines hours which compel me to get the "24 hours access service" which by the way I just needed for that particular day the 27th of jul. I needed to storage my stuff on the 27th of jul, so between go and get my stuff and come back, the store would be closed, so the least I would have expected as a some sort of compliment for a new customer would have been to wave the after hour charge for a day, no big deal it is just a thinking, and the to be obligated to buy some specific sort of padlock it is kind of absurd but anyways it is what it is other than that I rate your service average. Customer service? Excellent. Policies? Not very good for customers. My opinion.

Had all my stuff moved out of my unit before I was due to be charged for a new month, but office hours were closed so I couldn't formally close out my account until the next day, and I was automatically charged for a full month regardless. I will not be renting a unit from uhaul in the future, nor would I recommend anyone to uhaul due to the uncompromising, all-or-nothing contract and refusal to prorate unused days.

When we opened the unit, all of our items were covered with a film of white dust. Something must have fallen from Above. It took A lot of work to clean off our stuff. It was concerning as we don’t know what it was and whether it causes a health risk. The office staff were unhelpful and just said - we should have gotten insurance. Unacceptable!
