Unfortunately, I purchased a box of bubble wrap when I made my reservations, that I never received. In addition, I was charged for furniture pads that were never in the vehicle either. Despite repeated efforts, I have yet to be reimbursed for these charges.

I had no reservation, but total assurance that a cargo van would fit my needs - The staff provided me confidence and was absolutely helpful in getting me settled. I would definitely choose this location again for the superb customer service and friendly demeanor. They definitely deserve a pizza party or something (I'm a fan of pizza, hence the suggestion).

I reserved the truck online for two days and 300 miles and received email confirmation of the price, time and mileage. When I returned the truck, their "system" showed I only reserved it for 150 miles and one day, so they charged me an additional $80 above the reservation price. Now I have to go through the whole objection process. Bad experience.

The Uhaul representative who attended me was effective but seems like she was extremely tired and not very responsive (quiet, one-word answers) -- It was almost a little worrisome!



Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, despite it being just before closing on a Sunday night. I will indeed recommend!

I called the number on my contracted as instructed at the pickup location. I called and the operator gave me the 26 K St location in Washington DC. As my drop off location. She even sent me a text to validate where to take it. Once I got there the person receiving the truck told me I could not leave the truck. He said they were slated not to be a drop off location today. I told him that I was given this address and showed him the text. He made a call and instructed me that this location was not a drop zone today and to take the truck to a Hyattsville location. When I said no I had no transportation from that location he insisted that if I left the truck it would be placed on the street and towed. He then proceeded to tell me how I would be billed for all of this towing service and responsible for the truck too. I insisted that I had a ride waiting for me and that I could not go to another city and that I was not from DC. I explained that I had followed their protocol and that I the customer should not be responsible for a mistake the employee had made. After arguing for several minutes his supervisor called and said to take the keys and allow me to check out. This was a major form of customer disrespect and bad service. If the person at the uhaul dispatcher did not confirmed the location yet gave me this misinformation I should not have had to be subject to such abuse and disrespect. Terrible experience!!!!!

Location is convenient in the city, just difficult to park your car nearby. Everyone I interacted with was nice and efficient. No problems at all with my rental.

I was charged $150 for a small dent at the lower part of the front right door. I would have been okay with that except that I purchased damage insurance. I'm not sure what that is for except for situations like this. It certainly was not explained that the insurance would leave me with that sort of responsibility for a small dent. On paying for this I was also told that part of the problem was that I rented a cargo van which is not actually owned by Uhaul. That was the first I was aware of that and it would have made a difference as to which truck I rented. I have rented from Uhaul numerous times in the past and paid for insurance that I never claimed on-now when I needed it the insurance did not cover the damage. I feel that this was wrong and it causes me to reconsider future rentals from Uhaul.

Whoever checked me in was extremely unpleasant and lazy. She rushed me through the check in process, didn't allow me to consider all my options and in the end, committed me to returning the truck to a location that I never confirmed with her. When I told her this, she rudely instructed me to call the 800 number and change it. She wasn't apologetic nor did she offer to change it for me. There was no one else in line behind me either. I would never use this facility again or recommend to anyone else solely because of her.

I had reserved a van for after-hours pickup. I twice during business hours called UHaul customer service to confirm that after-hours pickup was set and that the van would be ready. The first operator, after checking with his supervisor, assured me that a pickup code would appear on the UHaul android app that evening after business hours. The second customer service rep reiterated the same. When I arrived for after-hours pickup the app showed my reservation but no information or link that would allow me to pick up the van. I spent MORE THAN AN HOUR on the phone in a third customer service call, phone battery running down to nothing, to learn that the location staff hadn't prepared the van for after-hours pickup. Finally the very good representative on that call found a truck available for after-hours. They canceled my original reservation and I reserved the truck, and picked that up. But I didn't need a truck. I wanted a van. The truck is more difficult to park on city streets. It uses more gas. When empty it bounces around on the freeway. It was a rotten experience.

Truck drop off is chaotic ... not enough room - need somebody there to facilitate



We all know the kind of customer service that feels phony and insulting: for example, when bank reps mollify you with sweet politeness instead of opening another window and keeping the line moving; or companies that don’t take responsibility for their internal problems and instead extract fees from their customers. When they can’t hide tricks with smoke & mirrors in their contracts, they use fine print. It’s unpleasant to expect an edge or nick or in the case of a dispute, steel yourself for a tense encounter. Not so at 26 K. When the housing for the driver side mirror fell out, I saved the parts and called U-haul. When I returned the truck after my move, and they saw the fasteners, they could see that it was a accident waiting to happen. I was charged no fee because I had signed up for the Safe Move insurance. I left feeling very relieved and assured that the matter was resolved. U-haul in my opinion does a fine job in hiring people who are competent and have good people smarts. It’s so refreshing to see customer service based on skills, problem solving and good communication. They are straightforward to deal with: the store manager’s name is on the door, and each person is part of a coordinating team that gets things done. Do not underestimate what it takes to do this job well. There’s a lot of logistics going on in a busy downtown location with a tight parking lot, lots of varied equipment, and clients with little time and patience. The lots at other locations such as Bladensburg or 5th Street NE are roomy in comparison. BTW: The truck was ready for me so that when I arrived at opening time (0700), it was prepped and positioned to move out of the lot. At 0703, I was on the road with the A/C on high.
