The truck itself was old and dilapidated. I don't know the year but, it was an old Ford with low power and a transmission that was difficult to shift into gear. The windshield wipers were subpar, and I was driving in a storm. When I received the truck, the rubber window seal on the driver side was off its track and, even after putting it back as well as possible, wind noise was ridiculously loud. You would think that in 2026 the trucks would at least have automatic windows, backup cameras, and perhaps, radio controls on the steering wheels. They could even add automatic lights for safety. This was a bare bones vehicle that seemed like it was stuck in the 70s. The only redeeming quality was he advertised low deck, and friendly and helpful staff at the Eliabeth City, Patrick Way location. The facility and equipment were clean and well organized and have no reason to believe they aren't maintaining the vehicles to the level of their ability. Unfortunately, U-Haul just isn't giving them 21st century vehicles. Back up cameras have been mandatory since 2015 in most vehicles, automatic lights perhaps longer. These common safety features on cars have become the norm for most drivers so, not having them presents a real hazard if you forget to manually turn on the lights, or when backing to load or unload the vehicle. I suppose the lack of cruise control makes some sense but, not much. If there is a concern that drivers can't safely use cruise control in a truck, then other safety aspects should be enhanced not left out. Having to remove your hand from the wheel to adjust the radio or roll down a window are surely as concerning as cruise control. U-Haul appears to be getting the cheapest, bare bones vehicles possible and pocketing the savings because they surely are not passing them along to customers. The daily rate isn't atrocious, but the mileage rates are ridiculous especially with a 20-cent increase for weekend use. Add gas prices for a truck that gets 10 MPG and it just compounds the cost. Obviously, they don't control the gas prices, but they could help offset the cost with savings elsewhere. As stated, great people, great new facility, too bad the company hasn't updated their equipment in decades.

Carl LI first, was unable to make a reservation on the app. When I arrived at the haul location, I waited over 30 mins for a representative to come to help me. When I received the truck, it only had a 1/4 tank in it. The truck made a loud racket underneath the truck. The lock on the back of the truck was bent, and didnt function. To top it all off, while temperatures were over 100 degrees heat index, the AC in the truck did not work.

LATOYA WI tried two locations in Wilson to drop off my U-Haul trailer, but no one can help me there. Take it off my truck so they sent me to another location which once I got there, the guy said they could take the trailer but later on I found out that they charged me $58 for dropping the trailer there and I don’t think that was my fault should ever be my fault and nobody can tell me why

The other company rental quote we got had a really onerous insurance procedure (and also upcharged for changing date a few days... after having a reservation for month+.) But uhaul was easy, clean, open both days & very convenient locations. Will be our goto for future moving trucks. Thanks
