You need more carts and another elevator, the wait times were ridiculous and there were no where near enough carts, people were literally walking around asking people for carts to no avail which really sucks for people on the second and third floors, and only one elevator is not ideal either when you would have to wait for 2-3 elevators due to the amount on stuff people had in elevators. When you have a building in a college town and have kids renting units you need to be more efficient.

Storage units are not gated anyone can go drive around them, our units were dirty when we got into them even though they inspected (at least they were marked as that but I doubt they actually checked them). All units here are 10’ x 10’ units they have no 10’ x 20’ units instead they just give you two 10’ x 10’ units and force you to buy a second lock even though they do not tell you you are getting two units. The office staff were also not fun to work with, it was almost an inconvenience when I showed them that since I rented a truck that my storage unit was free and I had to fight the General Manager Rachel (sorry to be rude but she should not be a GM, she is the most rude person and does not care about her customers) about getting the unit for free as she said her location doesn’t honor that even though it was right in the website and let me book it. She finally gave it to me after multiple calls to customer service and showing her the emails I had from my reservations. Also anytime I’d ask a question the employees would just roll their eyes and made it seem like I was being annoying even though they were valid questions. Overall, I would not rent a truck or storage unit from this location again unless they change how they treat the customers and unfortunately it all stems from the General Manager and how she runs the location.

There were a lot of trailers being returned when I brought mine back....Iowa City is a college town and a lot people were moving back for the school year. That said, the people were pretty quick to check me out. I suppose they already hire additional seasonal help so I don't know what else they could do other than put in some sort of automatic drop off system....but I don't think that I'd like to do that since I want to get a confirmation from the dealership that they trailer was in good shape when I dropped it off and that I dropped it off on time.

Horrible experience all around with the Uboxes. They for one do not fit what is advertised. Then my delivery was a day late due to truck issues because they seem to have only one truck. I was only informed of this because I happened to call in, otherwise doubt I would have been told. Then I was advised it would be the next day one of the first deliveries, which was a lie because mine was the second to last an hour after the quoted delivery time which was in the late evening. The only person that was friendly or even seemed to care was the man who actually physically made the box delivery. I will never ever use this service again and advised anyone I know to steer clear!!! I have moved cross country a few times using the pods and decided to use U-Haul because they were literally down the street. Huge mistake!!

Being a college town and knowing when move in dates are the busiest need more counter help with checking in and out with trucks and units. LONG LINE.

Make sure each vehicle is filled up when customer picks it up. At least have enough fuel in it to make sure next customer is not chewing nails hoping to make it to a fuel station. Otherwise your service was really good. I recommend your location to anyone who enjoys good service!

Short on employees. Waited in line for 30 minutes picking up and dropping off. The employee that helped with the pick up was on his phone with ear buds in, and swept his phone over my ID as it was on the counter. Not sure if he was taking a picture of it or what, but put the phone away when dealing with customers. Not happy

There was a long slow moving line of people picking up. I was however able to figure out how to do the app check in. A few in line asked me how because they couldn’t figure it out. Maybe have a sign with clear instructions at the store would help. Also there were so many vehicles, it was hard to figure out where to park. So either more signs or more people working to direct during the busy student moving weeks.

I waited in line for the keys to my u-haul for 40 minutes. This is not an exaggeration--I waited in line from 12:50pm to 1:30pm when my rental started at 1pm. The staff did not move with any sense of urgency, and a lot of the information I had to give seemed redundant since I already filled out a form for rental online. One staff member was sitting on his phone while there was a long queue of people waiting to be helped. I would not recommend this location to a friend because of the poor service.

Second time at this location. Very poorly run. Had to wait almost 2 hours to get my truck this time. Extremely understaffed. The guys who were there were courteous and dealing with the issues at hand but this is clearly a regular thing of not having enough people on hand. Will never use this location again.

Nothing wrong with this location but to call me the day before my pick up and to tell me my truck will be available in a town that was an hour and 15 minutes north of Cedar Rapids is ridiculous! Luckily they found me a car in Iowa city but I still had to take an Uber ride that cost me $77.

Nobody in sight at truck drop off. Went inside and desk person made us go back outside to track somebody down. No clear directions on what to do and where to go at the drop off site. When we found the guy it was super easy…just gave him the keys. But you have to figure it out and find the right person first.

The reservation process needs work and is terrible. I reserved a truck for July 25th at 9am. An email was sent confirming that date and time. I received a call at 6pm on July 24th saying a truck wouldn't be available until July 26th.I had already set up people to help move and took the day off work. The person that called that evening said that I didn't understand the confirmation email and must not have read it correctly. Communication goes a long way and Uhaul does a poor job of it by calling the evening before someone plans on moving to tell them when you can get the truck and not just allowing the customer to go by what was their choice for the date and time that they thought they had reserved.

When we arrive for pickup there were 2 employees and about 40 people in line. Some woman only wanted boxes and it all took forever. The employees were pleasant and trying but it was painful how long it took. I tried to pivot to pickup through my phone and the app glitchea and I never got it completed. A phone customer service rep was trying to to help but it would. Not work. He called three people to verify me which was insane because they were sitting right with me. The entire experience was ridiculous and painful and should have been effortless. We waited 45 mins in line because your facility was completely understaffed. Poor service and not at the fault of the employees who really were trying. Do better UHaul

I rented a 10' box truck, dolly, & reserved a small storage rental unit. I waited in line for over an hour and when I reached the counter, there were no storage rental units available and it took almost an hour to process my truck rental. Once I reached my apartment, there was no dolly in the truck so we had to hand carry all boxes from a 3rd floor unit. The lack of organization at this location caused our move to be a complete disaster.

For one of the busiest weekends for U Hauls in Iowa City, this location was criminally underprepared to handle the demand. This is by no means a comment on the people working the desk; they were great and doing their best given the circumstances. I just can't believe that this location could only get 3 workers on move out weekend. I hope they figure it out for next weekend.

PREPARE FOR IOWA CITY MOVE OUT WEEK completely unprepared with three staff on duty. I waited in line for 2 hours. I did every pre check in on the app. I did not receive the 6 pads I paid for. Things were ran without knowledge or experience. Awful experience

My wife ordered a drive up storage unit 6 weeks ago but yesterday I was given a unit on 3rd floor of U Haul storage building. There was only one elevator for entire building!!! What should have taken 10 minutes took my over an hour mostly waiting for elevator. The woman who checked us in was the only good thing of entire experience. She was pleasant and friendly.

You could increase the number of servers you use so that your system runs faster. It took 1/2 hour out of our 2 hours of rental time to get the requested pictures downloaded so I could leave the lot in addition to the 1/2 hour we stood in line to get our reservation paid for

This was an awful experience. I encountered numerous issues: 1. U-Haul constantly contacted my emergency contact instead of me without even trying to contact me. 2. U-Haul required me to reschedule my location because the location the website chose did not have a truck available. This was already bad, but then the representative who rescheduled me also changed the pickup time from 10 AM to 7 AM without telling me. 3. The location was understaffed with a long line. I did not get out with my truck until 30 minutes after my start time. I was not compensated or extended for this inconvenience. 4. The truck had another truck parked directly in front of it so after waiting in the long line, I had to go back inside and get help again. 5. U-Haul sent me the text recommending that I take a picture of the back license plate *after I drove away*, and the text expired before I could fix it. I had to call U-Haul for the third time and sit through a 20 minute hold, wasting valuable truck renting time. I will never be using U-Haul again, and I recommended that everyone tries to find a better alternative.

Most things were great with one issue. The truck I reserved back on May 18, 2026, a 15 foot truck, was not available and I was given a 20 foot truck. While the 20 foot truck was charged at the same rate as the 15 foot truck, I had to drive on the I88 tollway and I will be charged tolls for a larger truck than the 15 foot truck I originally reserved. In addition, my reservation was placed two months ahead and I don't understand why the reserved truck size was not available.

The workers were packing genious’s. They packed everything quickly and properly, so nothing was damaged. I would not hesitate recommending them to anyone doing a self move.

The location is great and facilities are exceptional but the customer experience is horrid. The location is severely understaffed. I went there to pick up a truck on July 21st after having made the reservation over the app. There were 5 people in line in front of me and as I waited, around 8 more showed up behind me. Only 1 person working the desk on one of the busiest moving days of the year. After about an hour, I was able to get my truck and go about my business but this had a negative impact on my moving plans as it became too late to get into our storage locker after the truck was loaded. When I came back the next day to return the truck there was only one person working the desk and the line of returned vehicles was about 17-18 deep. Great facility with friendly staff but very poorly run. Too bad because i would use the same facility next year for truck rental as well as short term storage but now, not so much.

First of all, it said you get two days for one price and it wouldn’t even let you click on the next day, you had to choose the second day. Then they charged me $150 for an extra day!! Then they sent me to a drop off that google maps set you to an apartment complex!! The people on the customer service were no help!!

They have an extrelemy large selection of trucks and trailers but in my case weren't willing to rent me a one-way trailer. I had made my reservation well ahead of time but was called the day before and told I would have to go to a different location to get the size I needed. This location was an hour and 15 minutes away so that added 3 hours to an already time crunched move. I have dealt with this location in the past and had issue then as well.

Signed up on u haul website and didn’t seem to matter when getting to the counter had to make all my selections over again and collect additional information. The additional information wasn’t communicated ahead of time and the employee entered it all wrong anyways so emergency contact information for someone at a different address is useless to u haul and won’t let me change it. Was a large language understanding barrier of what was trying to be communicated both ways and important information wasn’t communicated to make check in smooth and provide the service that was expected.

We moved from Virginia to Iowa in August, and U-haul storage made it easy to store all of our belongings. Plus, a free month of rent was very helpful when you’re renting three units! This location was really, really busy at the beginning of August, but they are organized. The staff has been friendly and helpful throughout the last four months!

I had a few issues with the rental. When I first signed up for the unit, I was not given the right instructions on how to access the unit and would often set off the alarm when trying to access my space. I called the front desk and they then explained how to use the access card to arm and disarm the unit. There was also no explanation of the type of lock I would need. I bought my own lock, then was called to say that it was not acceptable and I needed to come and change it. I was out of town. When I came back to my unit, there was a new lock, and I was not notified of this change and I had to wait in line to get a new key. The office is not always properly staffed such that wait times are long. It was inconvenient. All of this could have been avoided if I was told ahead of time that I needed a specific type of lock for the unit.

Initial instructions from your staff could have been better. We set off the alarm on our initial visit as we did not understand that we needed to swipe upon entry and exit each time. We thought it was for after-hours access. But aside from that, all good!

Everything went well and checked out on 8/1/25 (at least that's what I was told at the front desk) Got an email yesterday stating that my next bill would be 8/26/2025. My unit was never put down as a move out on 8/1/25. Spoke with Trey from Hwy 1 location and he was able to process my move out over the phone. Other than that, that was the only issue.

I ordered 2 uBox to be delivered. The night before got a call about it and to reply to text link about placement of boxes. I did so. Told I would hear by end of business day about delivery time. Never heard. Next day waited until about 11 and started to call due to moving company needing to know. After an hour of being hung up on, found out delivery wouldn't be for 7 more days. Panic. Went to local location. General manager saw my panic and helped me. Saved my day. In many ways saved my life. Even though truck's were all booked, got me one. Plus got me a storage unit. I needed this help. She's awesome. Truly

Facility is very nice, clean, unit was totally spotless. Reserving online was so easy and very clear check in instructions were emailed the day before. It was not busy when we arrived so we could park and find our unit and unload our first load quickly with no issue. When we returned with the second load, people were parked right in front of the large siding door (which I don’t believe is a parking space) but it made it very difficult to move large items out of our truck and through the sliding door. By the third trip early afternoon it was very busy - people were again parked in front of the sliding door & elevator was backed up so it look us an extra hour just waiting on the elevator because people were holding it on the upper floors. One elevator during busy times was a bit inconvenient. Overall a nice facility and seems to have great management.

Facility was great, but the service was horrible. The GM had a terrible attitude and treated customers very poorly. I had a 10AM reservation, showed up at 1130AM and after waiting in line for over 30 minutes I was told sorry, we gave your truck away cuz you weren’t here on time. Are you kidding me? I rent a car or have a hotel reservation and if I don’t show up at the exact minute you give my room away? What a joke. So, after regrouping and then spending 40 minutes in line I was finally able to get another truck due to an early drop coming in. The staff was the slowest and most inefficient group I have ever seen - I couldn’t believe how slow things were working here. The storage facility was great and I had no issues once I could finally get my keys to get in, which they also said, sorry, you can’t get in until you get your truck contract.

I reserved a unit in the second floor like a week before. When I arrived it took them forever to even find my reservation, and when they did they told me I couldn’t get the unit i RESERVED on the 2nd floor because there was construction on the second floor. It then took like an extra 10 minutes for the person to find a new one for me. After that they were confirming the name and address on my reservation and said I couldn’t “have the same address twice” and I was confused and let them know I only live at one address so I don’t have another one to give. We went back and forth a couple times (friendly) and he then said “it’s for emergency contact”. After all that was figured out and said I had to purchase a lock- so I did. He gave me a keycard and explained how it works, by just swiping it to get it. I’m still very confused on the keycard because I don’t know how it works and the doors just open when I walk in. Is it an after hours access card? I dont know. I got up to my storage unit and opened it- there’s already a new lock in it. Sitting right on the floor waiting for me. I had two locks now. I went to return one but the line was viciously long (like 10+) people, service was slow. So I turned around and left.

A complicated situation arose here with account ownership and rent payment for a storage unit. Staff were extraordinarily patient and understanding (especially a red-haired lady at the desk), and got this sorted out for us. I am very grateful for her kindness and efficiency in handling the issue to everyone's satisfaction. Not often you get that kind of service. Employees like that are gold.
