HERCHEL CVery annoying and inconvenient to make a reservation to pick up and drop off the van at specific locations and have them both changed. For the drop off change, I didn’t speak to anyone - received an email saying the change was “based on our conversation” when no conversation was had. When I called to discuss, I was on hold for so long (20 minutes), I gave up. Very unsatisfied by the experience. Would not recommend.
Laura MI ordered from this location, as it was the nearest to me in the city. When I arrived for my pick up, after waiting in line with only one person behind the counter to assist, I was told that this location did not have the size of the truck that I ordered. Their solution was for my to drive 20 mins out of my way, to another location to pick it up- which would have led me to arrive after the movers showed up. I suggested we add a trailer to the smaller truck and get on the road. That was taken care of, and my new reservation was booked. I was told my drop off location could stay the same. The following day when I went to return my truck and trailer, the drop off location did not have my reservation. I called the number on the paperwork that I was provided and the very kind woman told me that location could not take trailers, which I assumed the Lincoln Park office saw when they booked my drop off spot, but failed to tell me. So I had to drive an additional 20+ miles to a different drop off location. The customer service at this location was below my expectations, and added unneeded stress to my move.

He then proceeded to mumble under his breath when I said it wasn’t a big deal for me to do, so I was going to finish the process I had started via the app. The process protects me, so why wouldn’t I complete it? The truck was clean and everything else was smooth!

CHRISTOPHER TI thought the gentleman checking me in was not very helpful. I had to find the entrance myself to the storage unit . Look over the vehicle I rented by myself. He obviously didn’t want to get out of his chair. The guy that checked the truck in was very nice and helpful.
TODD ETruck was beat up and filthy and your outside staff was rude, disrespectful and condescending. (Guy inside was fantastic...). The guys outside were clearly frustrated and took it out on me until I asked for his name. Martin is what he told me, but who knows. I've rented several times recently but will stick with Home Depot for local moves and will either go to your competition or another location if ever needed again. Your "movers" actually dropped and ruined a brand new piece of furniture a few months ago, and you did nothing to help me. Really bad situations, and service was below suitable standards.
DAVID PHonestly, the U-Haul experience was perfect. The staff at the location was professional, detailed and transparent. The service was fast, efficient and affordable. I will definitely recommend the U-Haul location I did business with to others. Also, I will be utilizing the same location again on the 14th of this month. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
TONY FArrived 20 minutes before the posted opening time. There were employees present and the doors were unlocked, so I went in, but was told that they couldn’t help me because they weren’t open yet.
MICHAEL HI rent a uhaul 8x / year for tradeshows and this is by far the best location. It's a full Uhaul office, not a gas station with 1 or 2 trucks, so I've never had issues with a truck not being available. When my 10 foot truck seemed to small, I was able to very easily upgrade my reservation to a 15 foot truck. The team is polite and helpful as well which is also a rarity at a lot of uhaul lots.

I had to change trucks upon arrival because the truck has low tire warnings and the fuel gauge went up a quarter tank after it had been on for about 20 minutes. When I arrived, I was told there are no dollies available but I could purchase one for $20 if I would like. I declined. This was very frustrating given our advance reservation. It made for a difficult moving experience to say the least.

NICHOLAS Pvery unpleasant experience in this location. was renting u haul trucks many time but nothing like that before. truck had a lot of debris in back of it and the worker came there with broom for 1-3 second clean it like he was doing a favor and left (it still was not clean because he didn't clean it well) the cabin was also dirty with bottle of water and snacks that somebody left there, when I starting to drive at the lot I saw broken mirror glass what was a huge problem during the trim because safety concern.

Turns out the added cost is from charging me $30 for Safe Move, an item your records will show that I refused at pre-registration. Encouraging people to pre-register but then ignoring pre-registration at pickup is in bad faith and money-groveling. As you know, pre-registered people are eager to get going at pickup and are likely to assume that their pre-registration information holds true. I booked a Uhaul truck to do a one-day local move on 7/31, but my new unit was not quite ready for move-in, so I planned on keeping my things in the truck for a couple hours. However, at the Uhaul Lincoln Park location, the manager explained they wanted the truck back for other customers to use ASAP. I agreed to rent a storage unit for the time being, but the Uhaul location did not have any large enough to fit my things. The manager then suggested I transfer my things to a UBox and I agreed, since that seemed like the best option for both parties and I was trying to be reasonable and accommodate their busy schedule as well. If I knew how terribly it would go, I would have never agreed. My delivery was scheduled for Saturday 8/3. Friday, while I was at work, I received a voicemail that they were cancelling my delivery and offered me no other explanation or solution besides to wait until Monday. Move-ins at my building need to be scheduled ahead of time for an elevator reservation, so this was hugely inconvenient already. I also had movers hired and had to pay a deposit for cancelling last minute. Furthermore, the customer service for Uboxes specifically is impossible to reach— at multiple points in time, other customer service agents that I reached by chat could not even reach the Ubox scheduling department. There also seems to be a massive information disconnect, as the people on site at U-Haul, the scheduling department, and the customer service line are not in communication with each other. On Monday, I was informed the box would be delivered between 2 and 4. I took off work, convinced my apartment building to let me have a last minute elevator reservation, and hired movers again. Uhaul no-showed my delivery, and only after I called and waited on hold for an hour did they tell me the delivery was cancelled again. I had to pay my movers full price this time because they showed up and Uhaul did not even have the courtesy to call me and inform me of the cancellation. I was then told my box would arrive first thing the following morning 8/6. I took off work, rescheduled my movers, and got another elevator reservation. The window for delivery (8:45-10:45) once again passed with no call or update from U-Haul. At this point I had wasted hours of my life over 5 days on hold with customer service so I just went back to work. Later that afternoon I got a call that my box had been delivered! With no warning or update from U-Haul, I was in the middle of a meeting at work and did not have movers scheduled. I also did not have a reservation for move-in at my apartment building so they left the box on the street in downtown Chicago. I had to scramble to find friends available in the middle of a week day to help me move my belongings off the street, and once again my work day was interrupted. Their customer service is impossible to reach, offers no reasonable solutions, and wasted hours of my time, I wasted hundreds of dollars on movers that showed up just to be cancelled on, had to pay a fine at my apartment building for a last minute move in with no reservation, didn’t have any of my furniture to sleep on for 5 days, and didn’t have my personal belongings which interrupted a planned trip out of state (my clothes and luggage were in the box). I can’t begin to quantify the cost I have paid for this experience and how inconvenienced I was. I am truly shocked by the lack of professionalism. I don’t think I’ve ever written a negative review before, but this past week has been one of the most stressful experiences. I’m not sure how this is a sustainable model as the deliveries are impossible to plan for. Later the same evening of the delivery, I got a voicemail that they needed a card on file in order to pick the box back up. I found this hilarious as 1) I have an account in the app and have a stored payment method which I used to book this whole thing originally 2) They called me probably 10 times over 3 hours after I had been unable to reach them for days. I finally called back because I was honestly interested in speaking to someone at this point, and the man that answered the phone threatened that they wouldn’t pick the box up if I didn’t provide a card number. I giggled at that because at this point I could not care less what happened to the box and told him so. He then threatened that I would never be able to rent from U-Haul again if I didn’t give him a card number. I explained that I wouldn’t use U-Haul ever again if my life depended on it and he said he would relay the message to his manager who would contact me the following day. I have not heard back from U-Haul since and I’m guessing I won’t, although I would be interested to hear how they could possibly justify this level of incompetence. I did file a complaint with the BBB, as I truly hope no one else ever has an experience like this.

Customer service took hours to speak with someone, thankfully I was not charged a late fee due to their tiny parking lot being completely full. I had to wait an hour to unload. This isn’t the staff, this is the location. Regardless of their being uhauls all down the road, this is the only one next to a college and transient community. Fore warnings for surcharges will make the company look more credible and less sneaky. No one likes a sneak surcharge for something that you have no control over. Also, the 15” trucks do not fit on east side of the storage facility. It would be nice if this was taken in account on the website for this facility so that people wont have to make changes at the front desk. Jayce helped me out at this location and is an optimal employee. He was patient and attentive in a zoo of people. There was another gentleman that helped me in the morning and he was nice too. Kudos to them for being a shining example of quality customer service. They get 5 stars for sure!

I sent an email April 15th & April 17 informing him of my move and no longer using storage as of April 19th, 2024. He never replied to my notices. So I had no idea if he ever received my emails confirming. Even after notifying Uhaul of my last day, I was billed on April 26th,2024. Mr. Mueller can never be reached. I plan on following through with the CEO of Uhaul.

Even after he was the one to move me out of my storage unit, two days later he sent email saying I would be charged. The woman on the phone told me that the storage unit would be $99 and it would fit everything that would be in my small UHaul truck. When my movers and I got there to the UHaul on Fullerton Ave in Chicago the storage unit didn’t fit all of my stuff which I was told it would by UHaul. I went into the office and they told me the next bigger unit would be $134. I was livid. I was told everything on the truck would fit into $99 unit. U-Haul lied!! I had to sign another contract for $134 a month. Also, I had to pay the movers more money because my two hour window flew by while I was talking to UHaul staff and trying to fix the issue. I was budgeting $99 a month for the storage unit from UHaul not $134. My movers finally got me into the bigger storage unit. I had to pay them double what they quoted me because of UHaul giving me incorrect info. This past week when I called UHaul on Fullerton Ave from Florida telling them I would have movers taking my stuff out of storage on Dec 17, yesterday. And my friend would be there to assist the movers and take them to my unit - Martin Mueller didn’t bother to tell me to mail the keys of my lock of my unit to my friend. Martin was the one who I also talked to 2 years ago and did nothing about UHaul giving me a smaller unit when they told me all would fit in my unit from the small UHaul truck. Also I called last week and spoke to a person called Chris and asked him if I needed to mail my friend the black UHaul card and he said no. Chris said she was on my contract and she could have access to my storage unit. He didn’t mention to give my friend the keys for the lock. Chris or Martin should have reminded me that I purchased a special lock from UHaul 2 1/2 years ago and my friend would need the keys. They knew I was calling from Florida and not Chicago. Low and behold on Saturday Dec 17, from Florida I had to call a locksmith in Chicago to quickly come to UHaul and break the lock. I was livid again that uhaul was not helpful. My experience has been AWFUL to say the least. I spent thousands of dollars I should have NOT spent in the last 2 1/2 years. Between my monthly unit cost which was given to me incorrectly by UHaul, moving company that had to be on the UHaul facilities waiting on UHaul to resolve issues and a locksmith because U-Haul didn’t bother to remind me that a special lock was put on the unit. It has been a nightmare dealing with UHaul. I have wasted money, precious time and had a lot of headaches with UHaul. Sandy 312 342 5155

John M | First ImpressionsThe people were very helpful and hard working - no complaints about staff, although i could tell they have a lot to deal with in terms of the physical layout of this location. The customer evening access hours are too restrictive - 8pm is very inconvenient to deny access for loading or unloading. Most storage places allow at least til 9 or even til 11pm. Pleas reconsider these hours. Great availability of carts, smooth elevator and clear map and markings of storage units. However, the whole layout of the office - loading - drop off area is a nightmare. The building overall is very dirty (especially compared to most storage units) but my storage unit is gross! There are splatters of I-dont'-know-what on the wall, a giant rat trap in the corner by a wall of dirty chipped and flaking brick and paint. Your company needs to clean, repair, de-bug and repaint when a unit is emptied out - seriously. Most of that is basic maintenance. If there is a larger rat or mouse problem I'm sure that being addressed but how bad is it that there is a trap IN my unit? I'm concerned that there maybe rats or mice in my stuff while using this unit. I did not have time to address this with staff before I left town for the month. I didn't think i was going to have to take time to address such issues. I've rented vehicles form Uhaul several times over the years and have been happy with that service but I have to say if this is how your storage facilities are I am not inclined to use them again if even the basic cleanliness and appearance does not improve.

I think it was just a bad day but if I come into contact with that sort of behavior again, it'll just make my storage experience even more miserable than it already is. Everything was clean and well maintained. The temperature was just fine too.

This was completely unlike what the online description was. I would have never chosen this. The facility has horrible flooring so the carts bounce. I watched someone else moving into a storage unit have their glassware fall off their cart and shatter. Absolutely worst storage experience of my life. Would not recommend.

I am older and dealing with mobility issues. I wanted the biggest unit that was easy to access and without stairs or difficult corners. He refused to try and help me until I told him how much space I needed, I repeated my requirements. He showed me the location of a couple on the map that were very difficult to access. Another employee overheard the conversation and suggested a unit that was large and very easy to access. He continued to check me in for my vehicle and was increasingly rude. All other employees of the facility were lovely, helpful, kind and cheerful.

The Uhaul customers service on the phone said a split would work & assigned me a unit. When I called to confirm reservation a different representative said I probably need a bigger one but did not tell me that in order to put items into it you had to go up 4 stairs to a landing & then lift stuff into unit. This was extremely hard & inconvenient for 2 petite girls in college. So the person at the actual facility gave them the option of getting a 2nd unit that was smaller to put their boxes in where they could manage it themselves because they didn’t have to go up stairs with them. The movers are going to put the 4 pieces of furniture in the bigger one which will have room left over. All other units were unavailable. So basically they have no other choice at this point but to spend extra money which they themselves did not have & rent 2 storage units when in actuality they only needed 1 large unit. Had it not been for the customer service person who gave me inadequate information on which unit to rent & did not tell me they would have to physically carry stuff up stairs, I could have gotten a large unit when I made the initial reservation. I even asked “Is there an elevator” she said yes. But failed to say that they would still have stairs to go up. I am out of state so I had to trust the customer service rep on the phone with the information she gave me. I am angry that we have to pay for 2 units when all we needed was one & I did call in enough advance time to have gotten just one. This is a huge inconvenience & waste of money that the girls did not have that they are now going to have to pay their parents back for.
Sonya R | First ImpressionsThe staff member who helped show me to my unit was helpful, but the employee working the register/in the office was clearly way overwhelmed. She was the only person working, and was taking about 20 minutes+ per/customer. I waited in line (with only one person in front of me) for about 40 minutes just to get shown my unit and get the keys. I had to pay my movers another $200 to wait for an hour because she took so long with each customer. On top of all of that, when I came back to uhaul later that day, my access card didn't even work- hadn't even been an hour since I received it/activated it. Overall it was a horrible experience and very unorganized. There needed to be more staff members working, and the ones who were working need to have a sense of urgency and efficiency, to understand people may not have all day to wait for them to finish chit chatting with the customers while there is a long line of customers waiting. I understand being understaffed, but this was just very poor experience.

david d | Overall ExperienceNegative: Received a call the night before we were supposed to pick up the truck telling us that it was double booked and we'd need to go to a different location much further away. That being said, we reserved a truck 2 days before we needed it and it was on a very very busy moving weekend. When trying to re-book, we were on hold for at least 20 minutes each time we called. Positive: We drove back to Chicago during the riots and we were unable to put our stuff in the storage unit bc of the riots. They let us keep the truck an extra night and were very helpful and friendly along the way!

No contingency plan- no carts on upper floors to at least roll items to staircase, no door stoppers for staircase doors. Email should have been sent to all renters letting know of the issue so people do not show up with help, rented truck to find out that items can be accessed. No information is avaibale as to time line of repairs.

Mike at the desk on a first visit and at check in time, Rick on the phone, Jasmine at a national call center, Tameka who phoned me to confirm the reservation and another Rick who took me to the storage space--and a very kind lady who received the returned van and gave me a printed receipt late Friday afternoon, 2/21/20, but whose name I don't know--everyone was most knowledgeable, patient, courteous and personable.
