So much in fact that I felt it best just to answer direct questions rather than talk about what I needed. At the end of the contract she said “oh you want this for out of town?!” I told her I was trying to tell her that from the beginning. We were also interested in getting a storage facility at our destination and there was a big sign on one of the indoor example bays with a sign that said LOOK INSIDE. When I opened up the door an alarm went off and the staff seemed visibly annoyed. The rep then did not walk out to the truck to do any inspections with us but rather just gave us a key and told us to download and refer to the app if we had any questions. When nearing our destination I noticed that the contract said lake station IN not merrillville IN which we were told to go to. I called enroute to the merrillville location and asked if lake station was in fact the correct location and that they did in fact have storage facilities. They assured me they did. Arrived at lake station and was informed that they had no storage facilities so got back in the truck and head 30 minutes in the opposite direction to merrillville. Once I arrived the staff was very nice and friendly however.

I wish that someone had explained to me that I would need to complete the truck return using the app and taking many pictures. I had no clue so I returned the key without first taking the required pictures.
Jose LIt would be nice to get a refund for returning the truck early. We had a two day, one-way rental and only used it one day.
MARY BI broke glass in my unit & was gonna clean it up the next time but somehow someone got in my unit & cleaned it up. I didn't appreciate someone in my unit & didn't even tell me let alone how they got into it.

The 283 unit had been overwhelmed by rodents, causing much damage. I'm now in unit relocation process, which should've not took as long as it did. I took pictures of the damage and rodent droppings, also I may be initiating a claim for conditions and damages.

I replaced the gas though I paid $75 at pick-up.
WILEY WThe employees at this location are a little subpar. Had trouble picking up the truck and packing supplies with them not really knowing what I ordered. Ultimately didn't receive all the boxes I pre ordered and paid for. The truck was dirty, had cement all over the interior. Truck ran well and I had no issues with it. After I left and was able to review my final receipt, I noticed she charged me $22 for fuel when I returned the unit with more fuel than when I picked it up. I HAVE PICS TO PROVE IT! As far as I'm concerned, they stole from me. There was no opportunity given to review her charges before finalizing them. In the future I will continue to use U-Haul but will never use this location again.

My only concern, which I believe is significant is that the area where the trucks are kept is extremely narrow. It makes it difficult to leave out because of the tight spaces.

Gregg LI rent trailers from time to time to move outdoor equipment in Spring and Fall . This was not a positive experience this time. This trailer had motor oil and all kinds of debris in it. Bolts , screws, plastic , washers. The base of the floor was slick when stepped on due to all the fluids. I have noticed the quality of the rentals slowing going down- but this one took the cake…..

ANTWOINE SThe clerk would not take a $20 bill that was ripped just a little. Also very rude. I paid $1000 yesterday and she was complaining about a $20 bill that had a little tear. Please train the younger crowd better!

Tried to address upon return of the vehicle and was told I would need to talk to manager who wouldn’t be there for 2 days. I drove 29 miles in under an hour and a half and was charged for almost 200 miles. Being the first time renting a U-Haul, this is very disturbing. The vehicle itself was clean and the staff nice, but because of the overcharge I would be skeptical when renting from this location. Still waiting for a text response to resolve this issue
Shelly EI selected to do a counter pickup/check-in. Staff was friendly, however, he answered his cell phone (very obvious personal phone call). I was then sent a link by him to do my truck inspection solo, and upload photos of the truck. When I dropped off, a different counter person handled my transaction. I was not sent a link to upload photos of the truck inspection. Also, the office reeked like marijuana when I went in to drop off.
JENNIFER GIt was very cold. The truck was not started or cleaned off. We had to sit in the freezing cold for 20 mins until the truck was warm enough to start clearing the window. It wasn't a bad experience, but we the little details count.

DALE GI am 52 years old. I needed to rent an appliance dolly. I do not have 2 local contacts, but do have American Express and Visa accounts in good standing. The young Caucasian female clerk talked down to me as if I were a piece of shit because I refused to provide 2 local contacts in order to rent a cart that is of low value. The transaction cost was 10 dollars. She is not sane.

DENIRREKA BWe usually come here to rent trucks and usually it’s a good experience. This time we dealt with Diego who was so rude, over using my phone number over my husband’s who was driving the truck even though his information was on everything else. I reserved the truck which I usually do and put my number and it’s never been an issue before. Had we known about having to add me as an authorized user we would have done it that way but we do know since this has never been an issue before. People could have things going on outside of work which is understandable, but to be that rude over a phone number was ridiculous if we had not been in a time crunch we would have cancelled and went somewhere else. When we dropped off the truck the two gentleman there were nice and helpful.

I will also not be paying any late fees that were charged because I cancelled before the move out date. They need to read their own rules because they clearly think we don’t!!

Someone else rented the unit and put my name on it, without my permission, I assume as an emergency contact. Melissa Chavez rented this unit. I helped her with the unit rent one time and the next thing you know, im the main name on the unit and it’s my responsibility. I helped for a while because I didn’t want her to lose her things. By summer this year, I was done being responsible for things that weren’t even mine. I told them to take my name off the unit. They called and said they couldn’t because there was still a lock on the unit. I said it’s not my lock, not my problem. So for any further assistance with this unit, please contact Melissa Chavez, and send her the bill. The unit was always supposed to be under her name, never mine…I don’t know how it was even ever made into my problem.

And when I called to make a claim they said that bugs is not covered I had to leave my washer, dryer and refrigerator because of all the bugs thank God my new place had a three.😡😡😡😡 That was in September of 2019 and they kept calling me asking me did I want pay for my things. Now it's September of 2022 and I get this email to rate them sad and I worked for U-Haul before in WI. As a former employee I couldn't believe how I was treated.

Employees and owner don’t solve your issues they just send you to customer service the. Customer service says they can’t do anything. I didn’t even move in and haven’t received a refund or an email from the owner about my unit and the process to get out of the unit I never used. Moving is already hard this experience made it harder for me.

I had to throw half of my furniture away. I have several pictures of my damaged furniture and a leaking wall in my unit. The insurance policy is BOGUS. I expect a refund for my damaged furniture and will be sending a detailed complaint to U-Haul. I will NEVER rent a storage unit from U-Haul again and will advise everyone to stay away.

I initially went to Pine Island location because I had reserved a unit online, but they could not find the reservation. Instead of simply telling me "sorry" and letting me walk out the door, the 2 gentlemen working Sunday afternoon called over to the Merrillville location and were able to help me without me prompting them. Great Staff!

The unit was transferred, TO ME. because my brother was going through a divorce and that storage unit was mostly all my deceased parents his stuff, birds he also was diagnosed with cancer so did it as a favor, as he wanted me to have whatever I could of my parents. Well the cancer did not get him, He ended up being murdered not even a year after switching that unit over then I was in the hospital very very very ill got behind payments and Covid hit, I know it is not U-Haul‘s fault but there is no way I could catch the payments up as for everything else was behind also since I was in the hospital and so sick. I mean you have to have lights and water and food, now I have been sent a notice that they auctioned it off for $450 and want to sue me for $1160 so as my brother had two other unitsWith U-Haul between him and the payments I did pay before going into the hospital I just don’t think it’s fair that I’m getting served with being sued now

We found out on July 23rd we didn’t have a uhaul available and the closet one was an hour from our location. We changed pick up locations and times to July 23rd at 7pm. We arrived at the Knox location only to find out it was closed and no one was available. We finall ended up getting a truck an hour later without a dolly that we paid for.. With the one way trip we qualified for a free month of storage which is an hour from where we needed but that was fine. We got go our storage in merrillville only to find out they didn’t have w storage unit available like we were told. We had to drive another hour to find a storage until and then another 20 min to drop the truck off where we were told we still owed $33. This has been the worst experience with a moving company I’ve ever had. We have to rental another uhaul in august and I’m considering taking my business elsewhere if we aren’t properly compensated. This service wasn’t worth the $381 you got from me.

don c | Overall ExperienceExtremely poor reception by associate Scott Wells when I first arrived to get a storage unit. I had pulled in, in front of the gate as I had a trailer behind me. I couldn't fit my vehicle into a parking spot obviously, nor did I want to be out in the street blocking traffic. Scott was very annoyed that I was blocking the gate and scolded me for blocking access to his existing customers who may be trying to get into the gate. I apologized and asked where he'd like me to move while I wait my turn to rent a unit. He waved in a very non-specific manner towards the roadway and said he was very busy and would get to me when he could. As someone who also works in the front-line customer service industry, I understand the frustrations of being overworked and underpaid, but there is no justification for this awful behavior. Will NOT recommend this establishment to anyone. It's also not my fault that the property is poorly designed and too small to accommodate larger vehicles with trailers. Extremely disappointing. Clearly this is a retirement job for Mr. Wells that he cares nothing about and is doing this to pass the time. Management should make note of this in his annual review.

Our only issue over the past 10 years has been trying to regain access after a door repair and a lost key. We n3ded to have our lock cut off. The request was made in Nov 2019 and not completed until July 2020. This task only took 5 minutes to complete. So, we could have been out of our unit sooner. Anyway, that's our only complaint.

There was no apology from U-Haul and no discount. The communication of the break in was terrible. They were rude and couldn't help me as I was out of state when it happened. In addition to not being safe, the facility is dirty. Found a lot of bugs every time I opened storage unit. Finally, staff was not friendly. Every time I came into the office it would be a 30 min wait to talk to someone. I have taken all my belongings and moved to a much nicer storage facility down the road for the same price. Stay away from this storage!!!
