CRAIG SWhen I rented the equipment I was told I could return it anywhere in the Syracuse area, my paperwork had “open” in the return location field. I tried to return it to the North Syracuse U-Haul by the airport because I had a flight to catch. The individual would not accept the return and informed me I had to return it to the location I ultimately returned it to. This cause me to miss my flight home. Not happy at all with the location on E. Taft road. I also would like to understand where the breakdown was in uhauls return policy.

He pulled the two packages of blankets and just left them on the floor. He never told me that the packages sitting on the floor were mine. As I walked toward the door, following this person, he just pointed to the blankets, leaving me to carry them myself to the truck - which he just pointed to. He never walked me to the truck to make sure everything was fine. I walked around the truck myself to ensure that there wasn't anything visually wrong with the truck. The check-in crew was excellent. They were quick and efficient.

The truck was filthy, the sun visors (both) were ripped off, the steering wheel and dash board were sticky and greasy (I had to clean the interior myself as soon as I got the truck home) the tires near bald, and the truck was 3000+ miles past due for an oil change. The facility had no blankets to rent. The rental agreement said the gas tank was 7/8 full, it was just below 3/4 full. I can provide photo evidence of most of these issues. That pretty much sums up my sad experience. That truck should never have been loaned out in this condition.
GREGORY SUhaul needs to inform the customers that if they don't want your insurance, they can use their own however if they do want to they need to bring their policy with them. I wasn't told this ahead of time therefore I had to pay for your insurance. I felt as if this is a scam to make sure Uhaul gets more money from customers.

To people like myself having to use a uhaul for the first time I was disappointed. Also the 9' Cargo van is dreadful with driving on the road unless its the summer I guess? The traction of the wheels bad , also for a year old vehicle it ran mostly like a 10 year old vehicle with a clutch problem that I know Ford has many recalls on .. I suggest U-haul not have a rental schedule be so tight in which people are lined up to get it next so the vehicles can be properly taken care of... I paid hoping for a excellent van and got a road legal van that was problems all on its own and would like something back for the inconvenience.

NDEA FThat’s the second time I be disappointed with Uhaul First time the side mirror was broke, Today they gave me the truck with no windshield fluid and only the passenger head light working. And they both are safety issues.
KARRAR AI found it much easier to get into the 20-ft truck because there is a handle to help you get in as to where your smaller truck does not have that and it was harder for me to get in. Plus during the winter time I like to have had the window brushed off and I scraped off. Thank you very much I really appreciate your help have a great day.
TAMMY LThe 1 hr. reservation cancellation policy (reservation cancelled if you pick up the truck more than 1 hr. from reservation time) is frustrating when you are coming from out of town & not sure of the exact arrival time. I did not see that specified when I made the reservation & that was not my experience with previous rental from other locations. I was surprised to find out my reservation had been cancelled without any notification. I was not the only one that happened to - the person in line behind me had the same surprise with her reservation being cancelled. The truck seat belt housing was broken (seat belt could still be latched. The truck had a strong smoke order & the check engine light came on after driving a few miles. Not up to expectations based on multiple previous rental form other locations.
DAVID JThe Erie Boulevard location for Uhaul is the finest organization for Uhaul and the finest face for Uhaul in central New York. It’s personnel or empathetic and Efficient and well-trained. I recommend them over any other location. They are quick to please and easy to deal with and their prices are reasonable.
RICHARD SWhen shown unit, I noticed the light for the unit was not on. I asked if there were lights and the employee told me just what’s there and others will turn on in the evening. My team and I worked into the evening loading our unit. The lights never came on and we had to work with the lights off our phones. In addition there are hazards in the walkway that are not marked and can cause injuries resulting in litigation against U-Haul. There is probably 1/4 to 1/3 of a industrial type fluorescent light fixture in our unit that never turned on.

WILLIAM AHi all, I would like to address an issue with my recent truck rental. When I picked up the truck this morning, I didn't realize the gas tank was nearly empty. After driving a couple of miles and loading my belongings, the truck started requesting gas. I ended up refueling the truck and returned it with a full tank, having driven only 55 miles. There's no way I could have emptied the tank during my rental period. I have the receipt for the gasoline. I believe I should be partially refunded for the gas, as it is unfair that none of the employees advised me to check the fuel level or other aspects of the truck during check-in. The employee simply handed me the keys and said I was good to go. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards,

MICHAEL JI got my U-Haul truck and everything went fine. Employees were not the friendliest at all. I ended up needed my truck longer and it was after hours so I went online through the email I got sent and extended my rental. They called me the next day yelling at us that we were late with the truck and needed it now even though I had extended my time with it. I called customer service and they saw my extension but I got two different answers for when they needed it back so I ended up just returning it anyways. It was too much stress and I didn’t get to move everything I needed. Needless to say they were rude and I won’t use that location again.

The owner of this location on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse New York took wonderful care of me and gave me one of the new trucks which was phenomenal. She always is so kind and friendly and welcoming. I admire her for running a business so well and with such a friendly atmosphere the owner was wonderful. The experience with the equipment was terrific. I recommend this location to anyone who will go there. It is the finest location in central New York, and maybe one of the finest locations in the northeast if you want friendly, welcoming service and top-notch quality for good value then go to Uhaul Erie Boulevard Syracuse!

I usually go to the other location nearby, but I needed a particular size truck because of the size of the materials I needed to transport. And I would really appreciate if you could create a consistent process for renting a vehicle. It seems to be different every time I rent a vehicle, and I rent often. And it would be great if you could create a special category for those that rent vehicles often... I had reserved the truck the day before in hopes that I could expedite the process, and that definitely did not happen... I'm paying for labor by the hour, and to have to stop and repeatedly go through this long process is frustrating. Rep told me that the system doesn't store any information, like driver's licenses and passports, even though your system requires that I upload photos of the back & front each and every time, is hard to believe. There's got to be a better way...

MARCUS LI received equipment that the transmission didn't want to switch correctly on the first truck I took out and the second truck, the passenger door didn't open from the outside. So the maintenance people that work there don't do a inspection on the vehicles like they are supposed to do.

YASMIN TThe use of one elevator for 100 of tenants is ridiculous. We waited over 45 mins to utilize the elevator for 2 items. Requesting assistance from the front desk was as if we were asking for too much and was told that it’s first come first serve. We were then told that we would be billed for 30 days of services when items were removed prior to billing. Account is closed with this facility and we will not be returning.

It was an outside unit with old windows that were barely held in place. Because it was barely protected from the elements all of my stuff in storage was covered in dead bugs, rodent feces, and feathers. It was absolutely unacceptable and if you care about your stuff be sure to store it someplace else.

I made a reservation and on the reservation it was showing free storage but when I got to the location after waiting 30 mins in a very long line Andrew B couldn’t find my reservation and I ended up leaving without a storage unit and have to return the next day to get a storage unit prior to my arrival. The next day I spoke with a customer service representative from at U-Haul her name was Yavonne and she said that I was supposed to be offered a free unit which I was not happy about paying $134 and got up charged of 48 to extend the U-Haul for the next day because I had no unit to storage my personal items and my reservation could not be found, even with providing Andrew B my reservation number and showing him my reservation on the app and which I completed the reservation for the truck and the unit I was there for over two hours, trying to figure things out and still had to return the next day to get a unit that was supposed to have been free. And furthermore, the unit that was given to me had a big balance beam or support beam inside my unit which hindered me from some of my personal things. I am not happy with my unit and the facility was so filthy I did not even feel comfortable with storing my things, but had no other options given The fact that my card was charged several times my funds was depleted due duplicate charges that was made when trying to complete my storage contract with Andrew B. Then when I came to move my stuff into the unit the freight elevator was broken, and we was told by staff that the guy would be there to fix it in 20 minutes. I waited for someone to come and fix the freight elevator me and several other individuals. This experience was by far the worst experience I’ve had with U-Haul and the the truck that was give to me was not at all suitable to be driving. The steering wheel had to be turned to the right for the wells to be straight as if the truck needed alignment. This was by far the worst moving experience I ever had. I would like a refund the unit and would like a refund for the extension on the truck because I would have been able to have things done in the time frame that was given if things would have went accordingly at the U-Haul Facility.

william c | First ImpressionsThe building is old and dirty. There is only ONE elevator that only moves when you manually crank a lever. So when one person is putting their things in storage, everyone else has to wait for them to bring the elevator back down. It is extremely inefficient and wastes other customer's time. Furthermore, the elevator never stops flush to the floor - once a person stopped the elevator at the wrong time and we had to lift our heavy things at least six inches just to get it out of the elevator. It was a headache. The unit they gave us was 808, when we walked in, there were large dead bugs on the windowsill, huge spiderwebs, and a rat poison trap on the floor. I was disgusted. Then we noticed that the board on the wall had peeled at the corner meaning that there was a hole in the wall! You could see water stains on the wall next to the window. I was so upset! I didn't want my things to get wet and moldy while it was in storage. So I took a picture, and showed the employees asking for a new unit. The first thing they did was deny that there was a hole in the wall even though I showed them the picture. Then they said there weren't any units left. When they realized that I was quite upset - this was unacceptable - they offered me a smaller unit (which means they lied about not having any left. Just to double check that there was indeed a hole in the wall and to disprove the employees' claim that there was a window behind the board, we threw a penny through the opening (now we are down a penny). Just as we suspected, it flew right through. In the new unit they gave us, Unit 859 I believe, when we opened it up, it was pitch black. We turned on our phone flashlights just to discover an equally disgusting unit: dirty floors, cobwebs, and rat poison. But something was off: there were pieces of straw and sticks on the floor with a few bird feathers. Low and behold we heard chirping above our heads. THERE WAS A BIRDS NEST ABOVE MY UNIT. We mentioned this to the employees as well and they didn't have a response. This means they must have gotten this complaint before and have done nothing to address it. I wanted to cry. What if the birds pooped on my stuff in storage and we catch a disease from it? It was too late to switch storage units since it is college move-out season and everywhere else is booked. Distraught and disappointed, I put my things in the unit and locked it. UHUAL (once I take my stuff out the unit in August) PLEASE SEND AN INSPECTOR TO THIS BUILDING. THEY ARE VIOLATING NUMEROUS SAFETY CODES. THE BUILDING IS BEYOND REPAIR JUST TEAR IT DOWN.

There is another U-Haul about 8 minutes away that I would give 5 stars. This facility location was 2 minutes away The website DOES NOT mention that the only ONE elevator is closed at 6pm and on weekends earlier. So I found out the hard way that I had to climb up 3 flights on narrow wooden staircases with boxes. Plus the elevator is a manual and requires lifting gates and turning a lever to go up and down. Elevator from the 30’s. And if the elevator is being used on the upper floor then you have to wait until it comes down by the operator or you can try asking for assistance from the office. Well good luck with that. I asked and had to find the elevator by myself. The owner and staff know they have a captive audience with students who are less reluctant to complain. I did told them that they should have put everything on the website. Their reply was no reply. I gave it 2 stars because in the end I managed and I didn’t have a heart attack.

I wouldn't advise fragil or cold sensitive items on the upper floors that have windows out. There is no heat and we paid for climate controlled thinking it was secured from the eliments and dampness.

The elevator broke, had to wait 4.5 hours for it to be fixed. When it was finally fixed, the workers neglected to tell us it was fixed, the workers also neglected to tell other customers that we have been waiting all day long for the elevator to be fixed. If the workers weren’t so rude and disrespectful I would’ve given a better review. HIRE better UHAUL.

Havilah S | Overall ExperienceI like this storage facility. It's such a creative old building turned into storage. My unit was clean. I didn't have any problems with my unit. My biggest frustration was the building only had one freight elevator. My unit was on the 6th floor. If someone was moving in/out, you literally had to wait for them to unload/load a whole moving truck before you could use the elevator. I guess if you have small items, you could use the stairs and not wait for the elevator but with my unit being on the 6th floor, that was not about about happen. This building isn't extremely busy so if you don't have time restraints, then only having 1 freight elevator isn't that big of a deal. I rented the unit just under 4 weeks because I had to stay in a hotel while waiting for my apartment to get ready. On 2 occasions I had to come back to access my unit because someone was moving in/out. Overall I liked the storage facility and would recommend.

James V | Overall ExperienceIt took a long time to process the reservation. I had one that got cancelled because I showed up a day later than my start date. Then I was placed in a unit that requires the portable staircase, which is not what I wanted. However, since it took over an hour to get to the unit because of the short staffed office I was not about to re-do the reservation.

New guy put MY storage unit under my moms name when my mom was only supposed to be 1/3 contact person they require for unit. My mom was emailed my bill information and sent letters and I didn’t get anything when it’s my unit. Until, I called and complained that they had it messed up. Also, they never pick up the phone or give you a call back when call center sends them a message to do so.

The crew moved some awkward/heavy but delicate furniture from an existing unit to a new one to allow for proposed renovations. The scheduling/ coordination was seamless and prompt. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. Many thanks to all. (My only suggestion is that the crew wear masks.)
