On the UHaul website, I consistently failed to receive payment reminders for most months, despite the website saying that I'd be sent such reminders every month. Contacting UHaul support didn't fix this issue. I don't know what's wrong with UHaul's backend servers, but this needs to be fixed.

I have used Uhaul trucks multiple times and previously as long as they were empty and in good shape they did not charge us. This was empty and in good shape it just needed a towel to dry off the 2 spots of dampness because it was a rainy day, which I assumed a sanitation of the truck is included in the rental fee. But after being handed the receipt I was informed she added a $25 dollar cleaning fee to our $40 rental. It was extremely frustrating because it increased the cost of our rental by 30%. What bothered me the most was she was not forward about what fees she added. She got back from inspecting the vehicle and didn't say anything. I kept waiting and was expecting her to comment if there were issues, but it was not brought to my attention until she was handing me the receipt and I finally asked if there were any problems. I will be reconsidering where I take my future business.

Steven BMy van smelled like cigarette smoke. It was disgusting. Not a fan of cigarettes, at all. Had to ride with the windows down just to be able to make it. In a $10 off my bill, which I suppose was at least a gesture, but if they followed their contract policy for the previous renter, they got charged at $200 cleaning fee that didn't go to actual cleaning. Also, the van wasn't in great shape: engine ran rough, jumped sometimes when the accelerator was depressed, broken tire pressure sensor, flashed about its need for an oil change, cracked back plastic panel on the inside of the cargo door. Also, the U-Haul app is very difficult to use. All in all, I went to U-Haul the same reason anybody else goes to U-Haul, their damn near the only game in town. So, if you need to rent some sort of a sturdy cargo vehicle, you'll probably wind up here if it's the most convenient location for you. I'll probably wind up back there again too. Doesn't mean that I'm a fan.

Wilson JI had issues reading my credit card to enter it into the app to do my mobile pick up. I went to the pick up desk, and Michael was very helpful with changing my reservation and making it agent pick up with no problems. I was in and out of the office in a few minutes and on the road. Return was super simple. Another worker was there as I pulled in, he took my keys and asked if I was good with an email receipt. My drop off took less than 30 seconds! The equipment was clean and ready for me! No complaints

John J | Overall ExperienceThe van smelled like literal crap “shit” when I addressed the smell the representative said “yeah I know others have complained.” How am I suppose to move my own personal things in a van that has a poppy smell and with the rain the poop stains became watery and made it smell even worse. If you knew the smell and the stains existed why rent the van out? I returned the Van early because the smell was horrible and my belongings were starting to smell like the van. Worst experience ever!
Jeimy II had two vans booked. When I was about to pickup my second van on Saturday, I was called 30 mins before that informing me that there is no van available. I has to go to another location to pickup the van, and I was not even compensated despite UHAUL not fulfilling my reservation. Qhen I asked about it, I was told rudely to talk to customer service when the reservation ends.

The management staff are rude and not helpful in any way not only to our staff that utilized the unit but to vendors who made deliveries etc. to our storage unit. I have rented at the Oakland facility for four years and had three units and because of the hostile nature of the management staff there, I ended up buying my own warehouse to store my goods/equipment for my business. While my facility may not be as nice as yours, I do not have to deal with rude management.

I had told her about my experience with sandy and she made me feel better about the situation because I was never going to rent from that location again. When I asked if they could cut it for a fee since it is my storage unit and their lock they refused and said to google locksmith, when I asked if they knew any locksmiths they said no. When emptying my unit it says if I leave a lock on it there will be a 50$ lock cutting fee, I don’t understand why they couldn’t charge this fee and cut the lock for me when I asked. The facility was okay but the employees were not helpful. Not sure if it’s just policy but I found it strange they would charge to cut it once you empty it but not when you are asking them to because you cannot get in to retrieve your stuff.

TINA T | Overall ExperienceThe reason I checked average despite the other good ratings is this…uhaul specifically uses the word “Reservation” when you pick the size of the unit you want online. You feel happy knowing you are all set. Then, when you get to the facility, you, and everyone behind you come to find out that word doesn’t carry it’s expected meaning. . The size you really have to pay for is what is available at the time. We had “reserved” a unit that was under $100/mo but had to pay for a unit that was $181/mo. That is super misleading. When you make a reservation for a hotel room ahead of time, you pay the cost you “reserve” at etc. when you check out. Everyone expects that the rate you reserve at is what you expect to pay. So…I understand this type of storage unit operation can not know ahead of time what units will be vacant, however I really encourage you to make it more clear on your website and for sure, not use the word “reservation” so loosely. You will have fewer disgruntled customers and not really sacrifice any revenue. Thanks for considering!

Easy to access, flat trolley and mattress trolley were available and free to use. I like the trolley with three wheels made very easy to move between the deck edge and the uhaul truck. Uhaul made moving and storage fun and comfortable. The manager Sheri, is very communitaive and friendly.

We didn't realize we needed a storage unit until we couldn't fit any more boxes in our new apartment in the middle of our move. With only a few hours left before we needed to turn the keys over to our landlord, we were able to secure the unit, get the keys, and move our stuff in! It was great. The only negative comment I have was that the advertising was misleading. I thought we got a free first month with our UHaul rental, but that was only for those going one-way... I think? Nonetheless, the experience was great.

The associates were mostly kind and helpful, but multiple printed photographs of Jesus in his crown of thorns and Blue Lives Matter flags in the main office are incredibly disturbing and inappropriate. I believe in everyone's right to believe whatever nonsense they want to believe in, because this is America, and I believe in personal freedom and the 1st Amendment, but I don't want to have anyone's religion and political beliefs shoved in my face when I enter the main office of a business, especially a multinational corporation.

JEFF R | First Impressions7000.00 dollars worth of furniture flooded with mice and mice poo. No concept of insurance for this type of damage was ever explained or posted. I had no idea I needed to be covered for this type of problem in a indoor facility. The manager (Sherri) was always rude. She Recommended a truck for refrigerator pick up, truck was wrong size she still charged full price and that was just the beginning of a very bad situation. Early COVID there was no mask mandate at facility one Sherri, the manager and staff quoted they didn’t need mask because “she a had Jesus on her side, Sherri says she worked every day and had no symptoms as reason for no mask. Only to end business relationship with all my furniture covered in mice poo, and dead mice. Mice still moving in my bags. After a year or so being there. And there’s nothing I could do but write to let this be known. Would never recommend uhaul. Particular Oakland (Sherri) location

The site has always been very clean, well-lit, and overall, well maintained inside and out -- from the restrooms to the outside surroundings, including the dumpster area. We initially entered after hours and had not problems with the code process but the next day during business hours we entered the building without entering the code and alarms went off when we opened our unit. I went to the office and the staff explained the process to me.

She moved literally like a snail & while she was friendly enough, yawned several times (almost exaggerated) without covering her mouth. I found this quite inappropriate. The older woman walking around offering help was wonderful! Extremely friendly & helpful. Overall experience was very good & I would continue to rent here, due to convenience & cleanliness. I do hope the first month free rental offered to students is actually honored.
