I was charged for a utility dolly and furniture pads that were never put in the truck that I was picking up. I took pictures using my phone that the truck was empty when taking it.

JOHN LIt is always an issue when the electrical connection doesn't work. This will end one's ability to rent a trailer if it doesn't work. There are, however, some simple remedies to ensure a better electrical connection such as keeping a can of specialized pure grease which is made to enhance such connections. While we eventually got the lights to work, it was close.
PHILIP MI was extremely impressed with everything about my experience with U-Haul in Orleans (Innes Rd.). I reserved a 5x8 trailer and picked it up 1 hour later on the same day! I couldn’t believe how easy and convenient the whole process was. Not to mention the insanely affordable cost. I thought there were going to be hidden fees and all kinds of extra costs but you could easily decline. I will be coming back often and will let everyone know. Thank you! Phil
PHILIPPE HThe trailer that I rented was not available. There was no replacement, they wouldn’t offer me any other equipment. They then offered me an open trailer and it was pouring rain. Very disappointed.

LINDA IYou can install something in the cab of your vehicles to hold the user's phone when they are using map. I almost had an accident as I had put my phone on the seat near me and I was looking at it. This is important for the safety. You must also provide triangles in all your trucks, as must of the time, the truck (26') is longer than the driveway. Therefore, its head stays on the road and become a serious hazard.
RODRIGUE TToo expensive. They try to charge you for everything. They also have 1 elevator that everyone tries to use at the same time. They do not have enough carts for everyone to use.

Peter AWhen i picked up the trailer, the lights were not working, they had to change the harness, there was a tire that made the trailer shook a lot, after i drove it for about two hours, the tire blew out, the roadside assistance was great, they changed the tire and trailer stopped shaking after that

WILLIAM FThe return is a nightmare. I was on time and had 20 minutes to return it. I scanned the QR code and nowhere on your site does it say anything about returns!!!!!! I had to call customer service multiple times and they put me on hold which put me past my return time! The lady said I would have to pay another day if I was late, which I was because of your confusing QR code. When you scan a return, it should simply take you to a return menu. All of the stress caused my blood pressure to rise and I had anxiety because of this experience. I will post this publicly in a second and would like a return call from your customer service which obviously you people don’t care enough to listen and make the changes. The 2 other people behind me had the same problem. I hope you take time to read my comments. Other than nightmare regarding the return, the rental was easy and the equipment was in good order.

NEIL SI used to load my stuff in the evening but found that there was no switch for cargo cabin light. I had extreme difficulty loading in dark as the light switch was not fixed. I showed to staff on return and ask for compensation but they refused so thats it no more u haul as the staff and Manager at Orleans Ottawa was exceptionally rude and disrespectful and denied any compensation for having me such a hard time. Bery bad experience this time

LEANDRE WI had a bad experience. I reserved the truck one month before my moving day. 2 days before the pick up date, U-haul called me to change the location (15 km farther from the original location) because the truck that I want will not be available at the original location that I chose, I had not choice but to accepted it. On the day when I went to pick the truck I found out that the 15" truck (that I reserved) was not available, they gave me a 10" truck claiming that it is was I reserved and that it is NOT TRUE. I am 100% sure that I reserve the 15" truck. Do not play with my mind! Also, on the same day that I reserved the 15" truck, I reserved one furniture dolly and one utility dolly.....for my surprise, the lady told me that no more utility dolly were available. When I told her that I reserved them one month before, she said "those are first come, first to get them)...so what is the point to reserve if you do not respect that!!!! Why you ask to choose the pick up time if it is not respected. I had to clean the snow from the truck. There was a guy (that works there) with a snow brush in the parking lot. I asked him, if he can clean the snow and he handed me the brush. He hided behind a truck until I finished to clean the snow from the truck. Horrible customer service....for the price you charge, you can do better!

Erin HTires were all season in a snow storm which caused the truck to get stuck in the snow. U-Haul and U-Haul roadside assistance wouldn't help me and wanted to charge me $450 for a tow service. I had to pay out of pocket to have the truck towed out of the stuck spot. Definitely worst experience I've had and will not be a returning customer.

LLOYD LTrailer wasn't clean I need to cover a pool of grease and oil with plastic tarb to be able to put wood sheets from homedepot to home, on top it was a raining afternoon I reached home and the trailer leaked on two corners which damaged the top mdf wood sheet , problems reported to uhaul agent when dropped off and showed him pictures of the damaged wood sheet as well the dirty floor of the trailer .

MELANIE EWe rented a U-Haul locker when we moved to a condo apartment and didn't have a locker in the building. U-Haul has served us well for two and a half years. The facility is always clean and bright. We felt our belongings were secure there. About a year and a half ago we found out that there were a few lockers for rent in our condo building but there was a waiting list for those. We put our names on the list and one finally came up for us this past month. It will, of course, be much more convenient for us to have a locker in our building. Nonetheless, U-Haul served us well when we needed them. Thank you, U-Haul.

mark F | First ImpressionsI have good and bad reviews about my experience! Building A - Cons: The storage facility was not always secured. We would arrive to the storage later in the evening (8-9pm) and the doors were unlocked. The automatic doors would be open (wouldn’t need a code to enter) and people were just walking in and out. Most days there was extreme debris and garbage on the main floor near the entrance and on the loading dock. There would be shattered glass, nails, garbages etc. The floors were quite dirty. The bathroom was always a mess (or out of service). I understand it is a very busy area, and many people are moving; however it’s very disappointing to walk over garbage and debris with furniture and household items. Pros: The actual storage unit was nice and secured and temperature controlled. I always had access to my unit. I felt my items were safe since there is an alarm and camera system in place! The storage facility had good lightning and the lights would come on upon entering. Con: The alarm would go off almost everytime we went to the storage facility. I’m not sure if clients didn’t provide their code, but it would go off constantly. Once it was time to move out, I completed the online move out request and never heard back from the staff. After 3 days, I had to call the U-Haul customer service number. They said someone would get back to my shortly. Which they didn’t; I received an automatic email saying I moved out. There is a miss of communication between the office and clients. Overall, I am happy about the actual unit but the storage facility needs improvement. It seems that the newer building (B) is a little cleaner and more maintained.

Waiting 2 hours for a storage unit to be provided to me and not honoring the free storage following a 1 way truck costing me over $400 in my situation very frustrating none the less I got a unit after already have 2 other units. Knowing I have 24hr access (or so I thought) I went to grab food prior to unloading the uhaul and when I returned to unload my access code was denied. Leaving me to now rush back to unload a 26 foot truck with my wife and 3 kids under 5 instead of with the help I had arranged. Everything is always done slowly and even when reserving and setting things up on the phone nothing is ever ready, nothing is every accurate always given different info in person then on the phone. I have used uhaul ALOT over the many many times I've moved. I will be definitely be looking for other options during future needs of these services. As for the questions in this survey the way they are asked. Helpful not at all. Friendly sure, but slow and move at the pase of a sloth.

I do understand that the person I dealt with was new, but it was as if I was bothering him when I was asking questions about acquiring a storage unit with lots of sighs. On July 15th, we rented a 26ft uhaul truck in Carp. We received an email stating that we qualify for one month free storage. I was proactive and called to reserve the uhaul storage, which for some reason was all the way in Olreans. Once I received my confirmation of reservation by email, I made my way down to Orleans Uhaul to claim my locker. The customer service rep was new and was not interested to help. Lots of sighs like I was bothering him. He someone could not find my reservation, even though I had my confirmation. He ended up getting help from his coworker to complete my file, to get all the way to the end and tells me I cant access it that day and will only have access in 24 hrs. We had already had the truck since Monday and this was Wednesday, July 17th. That meant we needed to keep the truck for two whole days before being able to access the storage and unload our belongings. After speaking with the GM of the Orleans location, Liana Pianta, she assured me that the 24hr policy I was told does not exist and to come back the next day. I did and was able to get my info at end of day. She assured me that we would be reimbursed for the extra days we needed to keep the truck due to their error. We were charged $567.24. Once we received the storage, which we followed the instructions on what kind of storage we should get for a 4 bedroom home, we were faced with another problem. Our unit was only able to fit half of our things, leading us to unload the rest of our belongings in someones garage. To make matters more stressful, the truck did not fit in the garage due to the garage doors not built to be accessible for Uhauls 26ft trucks. Huge issue for people who move their personal belongings all the way to the 3rd floor to the back having to leave our truck downstairs with public access to anyone…not too comforting. 1) Wasted time/days, truck rental fees for extra two days over a 24hr policy that does not exist. 2) Truck doesnt fit inside the garage 3) Incurred more KM’s than we should have! This move was beyond stressful for nothing due to these issues we faced. We are requesting to be reimbursed for two days of rental $285.04 and KM’s wasted from Carp (245 Westbrook rd) to Orléans Uhaul (3636 Innes Road) a total of 43 KM both ways for a total of 86 KMs, back on the card on my file.

When we moved in it was quickly done, given the spacious traffic routes, use of carts, big elevators, wide aisles and responsive automatic doors. It was clean and efficiently functioning with water fountain and washroom for patrons. Our items came out of the room as clean as they went in and we felt very secure they would be clean and safe while stored. Online auto payment was great and in office staff were very helpful and friendly, more to their credit as some customers are not. Situations with customer issues I observed were handled very well.

A subsequent (second) truck rental and storage contract a month later was disappointing as I was informed by the agent, after rhe fact, that I did not qualify for the one month free storage promotion associated with the second truck rental a month later. The policy concerning this promotion was not made clear at the time of online booking and the agent was not willing to even reconsider an adjustment due to the clarity over the policy . It left a bad taste in an otherwise positive experience. It is therefore a cautious "average" recommendation

The reservation email also said (in bold letters) FREE lock, and we had to pay for the lock. So there is miscommunication and misleading information. It doesn't make us confident with U-Haul. We've been clients and have had a company profile for years now, have 3 storage units with you, we rent trucks on a frequent basis and occasional units for clients, and we are just trying to obtain the free 1st month promotion we received via email. When I first signed up for storage, it was pro-rated based on day of month I started. I had storage for several months and checked out days after being billed for a complete month. The associate at UHaul informed me there is no Pro-rating upon checkout. That’s very upsetting as I had to pay the entire month even though I checked out. On that basis, I wouldn’t recommend UHaul to anyone… sorry, I was ripped off because of this!

Another unit was given after some time and back and forth. I had a truck full and two paid men waiting for two hours worth of salary.They compensated with a bigger unit for the same price, which was appreciated. The second thing happened was when I rented a truck to move in winter. When came the day and time the truck was in the back totally covered in ice and snow. It took a very long time to get it warm and roadworthy. Again making for delays and expenses with the hired help. No other truck was ready or help offered. Because of these two events I give an average rating.

Cornwall location was sketchy.... hated the uhaul app. Especially for check in as it gave different gas levels... don't know why there was a discrepancy between app and your main system. The app said half a tank of gas which matched the truck while your main computer system did 3/4 of a tank... was not impressed as we filled up the truck for half a tank and was going to be charged for not going to 3/4...that is not right... what if I did self check out in the app? It would of charged me more.... plus, someone smoked in the truck and there was no where to capture that during pick up in the app...couldn't move past the field without a picture of smoke. Took random picture then found Coffee stains on the floor and could not add another picture to show how dirty cab was....

I also asked over the phone if a large moving truck could pull up to an area and be loaded and unloaded without going up and down a ramp. They said yes. They do not have this at the facility.

Carole C | Overall ExperienceSudden SIREN STARTED YELLING after I opened my storage unit. Very loud and unexpectedly. Sure I checked in thus disarmed the alarm before opening my unit. Then another sudden SIREN STARTED YELLING when I closed my unit. Used intercom, asked for support, 2 employees came and didn't find the reason for alarms. Then I checked out, i.e. armed the alarm which should be triggered only if someone openes the unit without prior disarming the alarm. Employees left, and after some time another SIREN STARTED YELLING for no apparent reason at all, as no buttons were pressed or doors opened for 2-3 minutes before that. After calming down ANOTHER SIREN STARTED YELLING. And after calming down ANOTHER SIREN STARTED YELLING. I used intercom - no response for a few minutes. I opened the gate to drive out and another SIREN STARTED YELLING. Found employees myself, they said they run out of office hours thus can do nothing about it that day. I agreed with assistant manager he'd check the next day and send the email confirming the issue was fixed. I didn't receive such an email from him that next day. In a day I accessed the unit again, no siren was triggered but it can yell another time. While employees were friendly, no practical support to the issue was provided. Plus mandatory purchase of a lock ($10) during contract sign which wasn't communicated in advance - they didn't allow using own lock; and attempt to upsell monthly insurance service implying it's mandatory: no "I don't wan't extra insurance at all" option when looking at insurance price options. Overall, loud unexpected SIREN for no reason, no one at support via intercom for a few minutes when really required, email confirmation of issue fix wasn't delivered as promised, deceptive sales practices. Can't recommend.

I ended up having to get two spaces that cost me $150 plus taxes more than what I had reserved. When I went to the manager and told him what had happened. He told me I should have come in and reserved right away. I told him that the person that I spoke to on the phone never told me that. He told me that it was too bad and there was nothing he could do. When I finally had to take the two smaller units, there was mouse feces all over the ground. The facility is poorly maintained. The service is poor and leadership and customer service from the top down is severely lacking.

Although, the wait time on the phone is way too long being on hold. The mobile check In and out is super convenient. The website could be improved. The storage units are clean and well maintained. *The only request I can ask is that for the units that are on 2nd level could really use a mechanical lift to help elevate and lift the furniture/appliance, household items, because just like me with back injuries could help not contribute to more injury and prolonged the back pains when moving the stuff into the storage(s). Over all, everything was great! Thank you so much!

I couldn’t quickly locate a broom to sweep out the unit, so I had to use my shoe to try and remove as much as possible before storing my items. Additionally, the heat is still on in the loading dock and made it uncomfortable for unloading things unless we kept opening the garage door. These things aside, the experience was great - staff were friendly and attentive. The person who unlocked the locker was done their shift by the time we were done in the office but still showed us to the locker so the other employee could continue to work in the office.

The first one was stuck between two other trucks, then, the 2nd one, one door was not closing, the 3rd one was also stuck between two trucks... We had to look at a truck available (i.e. in front of truck line) and run back to the staff inside to tell them which one was in the front. All of that involved a lot of running from and to the truck parking lot.

She said she couldn’t authorize that and would have the manager call me. Never received a call. I called 3 times to speak to Paul and talked to the same girl 3 times she said Paul wasn’t in ... so I asked her 3 times to have Paul call me. Never got a call. I was so frustrated that I just gave up on trying... it ended up that I needed and second locker which aggravated me even more because I didn’t want my stuff all over Ottawa. Most of the staff that work there are not welcoming... there is one other girl with long dark hair who is very pleasant and always smiling and the manager Paul is very pleasant Based on my experience with that First Lady ... and other unfriendly workers And feeling very unwelcome as a customer..... Not sure if I would return or recommend the site on Innes Road in Ottawa

IF I MAY SUGEST, this should be clarify at the time of the booking on the phone or at the counter by your sale team, this would certainly prevent a disappointment, frustration and hard ship when money is tight. Not a huge deal, but also a bit strange. While we were waiting, the couple in front of use were clearly having the same issue. A bit strange that that if the map is wrong that it would not be corrected or at least that the staff would not know which were which even if there had not been time yet to fix the maps. Also, no apology for inconvenience, which was not necessary but would have been nice. Clean and nice facility.

I wasted time and money when I was trying to move out, because the code was not working. I called and told them the next day, they said they will reset it,I came back after work and couldn’t get in again! There is no one to call after 7 pm. I had to wait again till the next day. Then there’s the confusing issue of 2 boxes, to punch your number into, and you have to punch in your number to the one on the left first... if you punch it in on the right before the left it will look you out- no one explained that until I got locked out- it makes no sense why it has to be that way- , anyways my number did not work in either boxes.Then I realized there’s a 3rd punch in box. There should be clear instructions. It was a very frustrating experience to go there 3 times, and be looked out all there times after getting reassurances from the staff that my code works and that I should be able to get in.
