Fred CMade reservations for truck two weeks in advance in person!went to pick up truck from there on the day reservation made for was told they changed my pick up place to west broad street,with no previous notice!!
John Rstaff was wonderful friendly. They answered all my questions never got upset or look like they were bored. They took pride in the work every person I worked with and even took the time to personally show me where storage unit was but I had no clue on how to follow the map they were they were great when your staff members got into a cart and just had me follow her around to where the storage unit was. Customer Service is really really good it's dynamic The only thing I would say and say this to management or your CIO is that there are versioning issues with your U-Haul web app where folks with older iPhones such as myself iPhone 7 cannot use the U-Haul web app because it requires iOS 16 and my iPhone 7 only goes to iOS 15.8 there was a way that you could create a version that would work on older iPhones or resurrect your previous app that was compatible that would be great regards John Atkins

Ian HThe office had a power outage when I came so we had to do the whole rental on cell phone and cell service. A Safe Tow option was added “without my consent” and I do not like that. It took a long time to execute the rental and I did not wait for and read the changes and additions that were made when an e-mail document finally arrived. While I truly appreciate the effort made to execute my rental in challenging conditions, a level of trust has been lost.
Daniel WThis was the third location given to me to pick up the trailer weeks before. I confirmed the day before that I was to pick up the trailer in Ashland, VA even though I originally reserved it in Sandston, VA. When I arrived in Ashland to pickup the trailer, I was told the previous renter returned the trailer to the Staple Mills location in Richmond. They were unable to locate my reservation, so they created a new one because they did have a 6 x 12 trailer to rent. When I got home there 4 calls on my answering machine wondering why I did not pick up my rental in New Kent, VA. I did all of this in poring down rain, not fun.

ROBERT PThere was a considerable wait and at one point no one was at the desk. After traveling a considerable distance I vented my frustration on the chat option. When staff did arrive they were helpful, but could have been more hospitable in letting all of us in line know where the bathrooms were, drinking fountains etc. Overall I am very impressed with the cleanliness and maintenance of the property.

TRACEY LOf course I would have liked the rental price that I originally had to have stayed the same throughout our time at UHaul but the yearly increases were not terrible. Loved the moving carts that were available for use. Made getting items to/from unit to vehicle very easy. Staff was always pleasant and helpful. Hope we are over our storage unit years but if not, we will come back!!

BIBIN TI will never rent again unless my issues are addressed. My pickup location. Set me up got a receipt and left. Got communication from pick up location 30 min after saying to verify unit number before leaving. At that point I was too late I had driven well away from the location as I was driving and I don’t use devices when I drive. The pick up location said I could pick any location for return. I chose mechanical blvd garner because it was closest to my current location. When returned the young guy at the counter said he would send a receipt to my email once checked in. Big mistake because he never followed through and I started being charged in my credit card for extra days. Three days into it now and still hasn’t been resolved. My advice to anyone is to stay away from this place

MARK PI was over charge for fuel, that I replaced when the truck was returned 4 hours later, I drove less than 35 miles, took a picture of the fuel gauge before I left the building, to make sure there wouldn't be any discrepancy with the milage and fuel. Based on the contract they give you, it should matches up, what's vehicle.

LESLIE TI did not appreciate the condescending tone and being laughed at by the employee that was helping me after I explained to him that my car broke down on my way to Florida to see my mother who was dying. He accused me of giving him an attitude while he proceeded to gaslight me through his smile and laughing at me and my situation. I have never felt so degraded and gaslit in my life. Because of this I am likely to never use uhaul again nor recommend this company to any as long as people like this exist within the company.

JOVONE HI went to pick it up after hours at 8 on Sunday and nobody was there and neither was the key. I called the number on the app and the lady didn’t really know how to help. I ended up losing time on Sunday and had to do it all Monday.

Brandon MUpon arrival at the location an employee came charging out , clearly frustrated, and told me to move my car from the fire lane. there was nobody else in the parking lot, there was no traffic, and the equipment i was renting was steps away from where i parked. thats why i parked there. the man was rude , and acted like i was in the wrong. so i moved my car, then walked back to the office. i filled out the paperwork and was told to bring my car back to where it was originally parked. Again, nobody else in the lot. There weren’t any signs indicating a fire lane, so i’m not sure how anyone is supposed to know not to park there. And even if there were, the folks working there shouldnt treat customers in that manner. i rolled in there and was getting yelled at within seconds, for something that was not posted. As if that wasnt bad enough, it was followed by a sarcastic ‘ thaaaank yoooouuuuuuu’… The whole experience was ridiculous.

WILLIAM HWe were notified our selected location for pick up was unavailable and rescheduled at another location that was 15 miles away - however that location didn’t have the equipment. Why we would be sent to this location is unfathomable - it only had two pieces of U-Haul equipment, the person at the desk appeared to be chemically impaired and of no help of our next action to take. We called and were told that they thought they had an auto transport near our original pick up which was now 35 miles in the opposite direction. We refused to be driving all over the Richmond area and requested for something closer to where we were. They found the parham road location which was much closer and definitely had the equipment. They were great but the misdirection from the reservation coordinator was inconceivable. I don’t understand why U-Haul doesn’t know where their equipment is

NORMAN EI've been frequenting this Uhual facility for almost a decade! I've trusted them to have my back for every big move of my life. This time around, due to a computer glitch, the process wasn't as smooth as I've become accustomed to. I was really frustrated/stressed out but then the owner literally drove across town at 6AM in the morning to rescue me. That is AMAZING customer service! I will continue coming to this location and recommending them to my friends/family. Thank you for helping me yesterday.... it meant more than you know!

RAYMOND CThe truck was in dire need of engine maintenance BAD! The wheel alignment was way off, and the shocks/suspension on the passenger side needs to be looked at and fixed asap! It was a very rough ride, the engine idled extremely high, and the front passenger wheel felt loose and wobbly. I’m actually quite surprised that the truck didn’t break down or fall apart. Also, it would’ve been so very much appreciated if U-Haul’s customer service and the U-Haul physical locations were actually on the same page, and not telling customers 2 completely different sets of important information, i.e. accurate return options, accurate truck size/availability, accurate #of days included, accurate equipment included/NOT included, accurate pricing, etc. Very misleading, very frustrating, very unprofessional.

ERIC DTalked to lemarq when returning unit. The rental document was incorrect for fuel on the unit. I had take. A picture to document and showed him. He said that in the future I need to come back in and show them. He the called Mark and said the fuel was correct but on the final receipt it shows a charge. When I was told that I was very satisfied. I know it’s only $30.00 but it’s the principle of taking someone’s word.
CRAIG SThe vehicle was dirty, the rear door was broken and did not open. The gas was lower than indicated on the contract, so I took a picture, as I was instructed to do, and took it back to the desk. The clerk was very rude and had a hostile attitude, and threatened not to rent the vehicle to me. Overall, a very poor experience. I shall not be renting from U-Haul in the future.

RAYMOND SThis ended up being the third location I was sent to because the first had a tire pressure issue on their only van and the second location was actually closed for the day. All of the staff were nice and helpful, but the van I got had the check engine light on and a message to change engine oil soon. An employee ran a diagnostic for the light and added some oil to the van and cleared the light. It remained off while I had the van. The interior was generally clean although the seat fabric had dog hair heavily embedded it all over. There was also a general smell that wasn't too pleasant. I'd expect items like this to be fixed BEFORE a customer gets in the vehicle.

MARC CThe equipment is great, but the people who work there are all rude, rude when dealing with customers, and they don't give pleasant answers. The only person who answered me with Algeria and with a smile on their face, being very friendly, was the person who was cleaning the trucks. This person should be on the front line. Very friendly to be out there.
FLAVIO MWhen the attendant brought the car around he didn’t feel comfortable giving the truck to me. So he said he was going to get another truck to make sure everything is all good. Next truck had no issues and got the job I needed to do done. The new couch looks great on my porch. Thanks Uhaul!

CHRISTOPHER BThe truck had an issue with being able to light the tow dolly. Turned out to be a blown fuse. I booked the truck with a tow dolly and I think they should have tested it before they gave me the truck. Cost be a couple hours of time on a day that I didn't have it to spare.

JEFFREY PThe staff was very kind and helpful. The only issue I had, and I do not believe it was their fault or the service department fault, sometimes these things just happen. The truck I rented for almost 800 miles started flashing the check engine light after about 200 miles. This made me very uncomfortable the remaining trip. Other than that, everything was great.

Tracy T | Overall ExperienceWe have been customers of UHaul for almost a year however, we have had two very bad experiences with the manager Jessica’s the Broad Street location. Our debit card was charged for three months worth of fees without our consent of acknowledgment. The manager Jessica clearly admitted that she pulled the card that the U-Haul deposit for the truck was paid on and charged that card which is totally unacceptable and illegal according 4. Federal Trade Commission Act (FTC Act) – 15 U.S.C. § 45 • The FTC prohibits unfair or deceptive business practices. If U-Haul misled you or failed to obtain proper authorization before charging your card, they could be engaging in an unfair or deceptive act. We did get the district marketing manager involved as well as the CEO Joe who was helpful but it happen again with Jessica and for over 600 dollars on December 20,2024 with no acknowledgment or permission and verified that auto pay was canceled and again a note was placed on the account in September 2024 specifically stating No Auto pay. We had to go back and forth for three months to resolve that and again still never got an apology. My financial institution and another agency reached out to ask questions regarding this matter after our complaint was filed these agencies have read over the google reviews and found that this is a pattern for this manager so I hope she will someday be held accountable for these unethical practices. I do have hope and yes Joe and Clinton did assist in making it right but, She again was spoke very highly of and it was offensive in my presence.

Privacy R | Overall ExperienceThe facility itself is nice. Some of the staff lack any customer service skills. They had put a lock on my unit (apparently the lock I had on there for 2 years was no longer allowed). When informed that I was in a rush, and just needed to grab something quickly from my unit, I was informed by the manager that I “don’t have to do the lock now, I can come back later.” I reminded him that I NEED ITEMS FROM THE UNIT NOW, THAT IS WHOLE REASON I CAME. The manager stated I would have to “wait until housekeeping returned from lunch” to remove their lock, and access my unit. So the MANAGER does not, apparently, have keys. He CALLED housekeeping from his mobile phone, they stated they would return from lunch in 15 minutes… I waited an hour… only to discover that housekeeping was ON SITE THE ENTIRE TIME, “lunching” (I guess) inside a closed unit… as I heard them, and later SAW them emerge from a unit that was near mine. Why couldn’t the manager couldn’t get the key from housekeeping, or housekeeping come quickly remove their lock.

Tara W | Online Move InOnly one garage door was working that opens for drive in and access to bring belongings in. For me, I had to wait in backing up a trailer to unload. That limits to one open door. Fortunately, all other customers were very understanding & nice that I was blocking the only entrance to get the trailer empty. This location is always very CLEAN. The staff are sincerely polite, helpful and cheerful; even when busy. It's so good to experience & observe that interaction as a whole when entering any business.

The gate remained in a permanent unlocked and upward position allowing anyone entry in October for multiple days in a row, removing the security aspect of storage we were paying for. 2. Multiple large white work trucks were parked in a row in non-parking areas along perimeter of parking lot which made it incredibly difficult to get the camper out of the parking lot without rolling over curbs. These trucks should not be parked there. 3. We saw a broken out back window with one of the Airstream campers with glass everywhere on the ground within the facility.
Amber T | Overall ExperienceSome folks on the staff have excellent customer service but they cannot make up for the rude ones. The automatic doors to pickup storage are hit or miss if they work. The loading is packed with PODs so haf time cannot access to load or unload. Sometimes they lock all access door when office closes even though signs state we have access until 10pm without having to have a code. It's so inconsistent. Great location, but I would recommend my friend's try other locations 1st.

The same goes for equipment rentals we’ve done there and will continue to do. So glad we moved our stuff there from the neighboring Public Storage, where the staff tried, but were hamstrung by corporate, who misrepresented the size of units and jacked up our rate considerably within just a few months of our move in.

Current manager Joseph Peaches was rude, arrogant and unhelpful. He parked his own trucks in my spot and all over the lot so we couldn’t get our campers in and out. When we asked for help he blew us off and said we couldn’t tell him how to run his business. I will never use again. Cancelled my contract. My friend did also. Mr. Peaches just lost 2 customers.

Mr. Peaches immediately stopped what he was doing to assist me. This is my first time renting a storage space. He walked me through the entire process and explained everything every step of the way. He also provided me with invaluable advice regarding my future truck rental. He called for one of his staff to pick me up and take me to see the unit. She was extremely helpful, explaining the driving route, cautions and advice when backing the truck to the unloading bay, where I can park our car, leading me to the unit to inspect it and how to set the lock. The entire experience is a testament to the ability of Mr. Peaches to manage not only a business that is centered on customer service, but to model that philosophy for his staff. Mr. Peaches demonstrates the difference between being not just a manager, but in being a leader.

I live alone, the 2nd bedroom is sparsely furnished, and the 3rd bedroom is empty so it's technically a 2 bedroom and I don't even own a kitchen table. I minimized my belongings quite a bit prior to moving with yard sales, Goodwill trips, etc. and my stuff barely fit in this truck. A whole family with an actual 3 bedroom home worth of stuff would fill two of these trucks. Same issue at the storage facility - I got the size rated to fit my size of home and it was a seriously tight fit, despite the fact that I own about 1/2 the amount of stuff that a typical 2-3 bedroom home would have. If you owned a typical amount of stuff I could easily see a family being stranded at the last minute with their stuff not fitting in the truck and no ability to rent a larger one at the last second.

I would then walk around the building wait in line only to be told that they had no circle locks. 4 trips same result. As a business owner I feel you are wasting time having workers place locks for this reason then having to remove them because the inventory is not in. This not the not waste company funds but also customers time. The last time I had 3 items to move out and was there an hour and a half. One hour of that was the walk the wait in line and it was full the the wait for the worker to unlock. Do better Thanks

That was thanks entirely to the staff (including Paul and his team) as well as the site itself: it was fantastic and accessible, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed to make the final step of our move successful and easy. I would recommend this facility to anyone considering a move in or around the Richmond area. I would give it six stars if I could.

DIANNAMARIE F | Overall ExperienceWhen I got to the storage facility to move into my storage unit I already had a U-Haul truck filled with my belongings. I had a unit reserved in advance in an attempt to avoid any headaches at the facility. When I went to claim my unit it turned out that the unit I had reserved already had someone else's stuff in it. The woman at the counter then tried to locate another unit. We walked to two units and they were occupied already. After striking out she wrote down a few numbers and disappeared for a while trying to locate a vacant unit. She could not find one. Finally, after what felt like an hour of waiting and searching, she told me that there were some outside units available. She told me that I would be charged the same rate for the outside units as I was for the inside unit I was originally trying to rent. I moved my stuff into the unit and thought nothing more of it. About a month later I received an email from U-Haul saying my reservation had been cancelled. Immediately concerned with the status of my belongings I stopped what I was doing at work and called the U-Haul office. I was told that my reservation had never been completed in the system and that I needed to give some information over to correct it. I went ahead and handed over my card to be charged and some other contact info. This is when I discovered I actually would not be receiving a discount and would be paying the full price for the outside unit. Now I am paying $45 more a month for a unit that was too large for my needs in the first place. I am unable to get there in person to move my belongings for the next few months and now feel like I've been swindled.

They expect you to pay them but I don’t get an explanation as to why Crystal or whoever she was told the bank I authorized her to use my card. One day I had to wait 45 minutes (with only two customers in front of me- and about 6 behind) because there was only one person working. He was literally with that customer the entire 45 mins. Finally, the manager came out from the back room/office and helped. I needed something a few days ago, went in to ask fir help and the line was all the way to the door with only one employee working (the same one as last time) so i didn’t even wait this time!!!

ROSHAN P | First ImpressionsWhen I first got there with my family and my moving company, I had to go into the office to get my unit number and things... i get in the office there was a line that I had to stand in for 20 mins, I finally get to the desk for someone to help me and this older man names JIM was suppose to help me, I told him I was in a rush due to my moving truck is waiting for me and they get paid by the hour. After I told him that I was in the rush he goes let me tie my shoe before I fell attending to important business. So he has no rush with him at all. He then goes to look up my information and he tells me that I told have a reservation, I stated to him that could not be true because I called and make a reservation over the phone 2 weeks ago and I actually have 2 reservation, one for a tow along trailer and one for the storage unit that I was waiting on. He kept telling me that he did not see anything and that he could get me into a new unit. I then tell him that that's fine but I am not happy because this is a huge inconvenience on me and that's why I called in advance. He then takes me to a unit model and I tell him that I need one for a 2 bedroom apartment, he goes well I don't know if this is for a two bedroom. I tell him well that's what I need, he goes well this is all that I have. I said fine I will take it. By now I am furious, he goes to the computer and I am telling I need for him to rush because my movers are still just sitting outside waiting on my dime and nothing is getting done. He tells me that I need to stop raising my voice at him, I told him that you clearly do not understand or Care how frustrating this is to me why are you not showing any compassion as I am a upset customer and this is not my fault. So instead of him trying to tell me and rush and put my information in the system he just stands there. I say again why are you just standing there looking around when you need to be doing your job to help me, he goes he can't work under these circumstances. I ask for someone over him number so I can call he would not help with that, the nice gentleman that was actually a new man it was his first day helped me and gave me a managers number, his name was Mr o Neil and told me to call him right away. The new guy names gjuan I believe that's how you spell it was more help to me and nice and patient. I called Mr I Neil and he pulled up my reservation within seconds and got me all set with my unit in under 20 minutes. Now mind you for 55 minutes just dealing with this Jim guy my movers were sitting getting nothing done and I had to pay them for them to sit at the end of there Job. 55 minutes was just waisted and taken out of my pockets because of this Jim man. This was the worse unnecessary experience that I had to deal with and was not fair to me. I completely feel like something needs to be done about this situation!!!!!!

Including the day I moved in when I got to my assigned unit I found a huge support beam in the middle of it. Staff should know where these are and let people know given the amount of room they take out of the space I’m paying for. The next month I got a lock on my unit and a late fee because my payment wasn’t auto drafted like I instructed it to be. I called and made the payment and went to the office to ask if there was a still a lock on my unit and someone walked out with me to check and when we got there and found a lock on it, he had to leave me standing there longer while he went back to get the key. Why wouldn’t an employee bring the key with him to save a trip and my time? Another time in December y’all were doing construction and I didn’t know how to get in. Went to the office and was hastily told go around the other side. Went to the other side and spent 10 minutes walking around and up and down hallways and never did find a way in. Didn’t bother asking the office again as they were no help the first time and by this point I was tired of having to make multiple trips every single time I needed something from the office. Based off the storage aspect of your business, i like it just fine. Your employees really turned me off to your whole place. The day I went in to tell them I was moving was the only time I didn’t have a problem. I should have never moved in after the first day. I walked from the office to the unit 4 times in one visit just to get a unit that didn’t have a huge support beam in it and the whole process took over 1.5 hours. I fully understand the need for the support beams but you should really have your employees at the very least know where they are and off or a discount on those units. I’m not going to pay full price for a unit I have to Tetris my belongings into. If you’re charging for a 5x10 unit, all that space should be available.

When I contacted uhaul about a possible refund since I wouldnt be needing the unit for that month I was told no they dont issue refunds and they just suggest you dont move out til right before you payment is due. Had I known I would be approved that quickly I would have moved my stuff out early. So I was out almost $100 for that. Then when I put in my move out request on the day I moved out (may 31) everything was good to go as I was told..but then today (june 28) I checked my account and they had deducted another $100 now I have to wait 3-5 days to have that money refunded to me.
